Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: I first bought a Nelson Study Bible five years ago and over this period of time it has played an integral part in the development of my understanding of the Bible and more importantly, of God. I have never seen such detailed, historically valid, and readable commentary in any other study Bible; I haven't seen anything even get close.
The commentary was written and edited by 40 contributors with doctorial degrees in theology from seminaries all over the nation (five from Dallas Theological Seminary), and is nothing short of astonishing to look at and read. The focus is on the historical background behind the text of the Bible, which enables the reader to more fully understand some of the more difficult passages in scripture, especially those concerning symbolism and prophesies and laws in the Old Testament. There are graphs, charts, and summaries sprinkled throughout the book, along with detailed introductions to each book explaining the basics of what circumstances it was written under. In addition to all of this there are "Word Focus" sections that examine words in the original language that they were written in so that we can have better understanding of the English translation.
This Study Bible is written in such a way that it is great for both those who have known the Bible all their lives, and those who have never picked one up before but would like to.
I have bought five more of these Bibles since my first, for friends, and for myself as I love the commentary so much I have worn two Bibles out over this span. If I could give this six stars, I would- and if I had the money and ability to purchase one of these for every person who browsed this page, I would.
Buying this Study Bible is money well spent and with time invested in reading it you will gain a new and deeper understanding of God and his love for you.
Rating: Summary: God has truly blessed me through this Bible Review: I just got this Bible a few days ago and I have been "yearning" to read it, even when I am involved in other daily activities. The Word of God is laid out in an easy to follow format and the notes are extensive. Most importantly, most of the notes and other features point you to other Biblical passages, so that you are not just reading someone else's opinion, but you are able to look through Scripture to get a better understanding of what God is speaking about through His Word.
If you are thirsty for the "living waters" and wish to be sanctified through the word" this Bible is an excellent help. I am about to sit down and call on the Spirit and through this Bible the Comforter leads me in all Truth"
hidden in Christ,
Lissa
Rating: Summary: A Unique Bible Review: This New King James Version theological masterpiece suffers from little need of improvement. I would change the glossy insert pages--several sections of them--found several times throughout. One of the glossy page sections identifies Protestant History with what I would identify as Catholic personalities, making this section a bit less effective. All in all, if the glossy pages made of semi-plastic paper (in color and very attractive) were in the back of the Bible or on regular paper, it would make an improvement. But don't let this keep you from buying this Bible as it is second to none in page notes. They are new, fresh with insights, and substantive. I use many Study Bibles, and this one is in a category alone. I don't tire of using it, as it is contemporary. It is definitely a college-level Study Bible and beyond. The text of the Bible itself is in print that is not large and a bit pale. But one can get used it it and it may soon become your favorite Bible for it's modern-conservative and reader-friendly format. More information in this Bible than most on the market, and it's new.
