Summary: Eye-opening and throughly researched
Review: Like Mel Gibson's film, "The Passion Of The Christ", David Limbaugh's book, "Persecution" is bashed by the elitist liberal left for its telling of the truth. While I would not particularly classify myself as a devout evangelical Christian, I still do adhere (as almost 90% of Americans do) to identifying myself as a Christian.

Having said that, Mr. Limbaugh points out what I have seen both in growing up here in the US and what my 7-year old has been exposed to in the public education system. Limbaugh is correct in that, as a whole, the public has been steered away from Christian beliefs dealing with morality and decency.

There are many detractors who dispute the religious faith of the Founding Fathers. The heavily Christian influence of the early colonial days in the America would rightly support the greater adherence to religous beliefs during the days of the Constitutional Convention. It's almost laughable to hear the liberals try to justify their revisionist history by claiming (and indoctrinating in classes) that the Founding Fathers (in late 18th century America ... with RELIGIOUS institutions like Harvard--how their founders must be rolling over in their graves!) were not religious people at all.

The devolution of our society into "Sex In The City" and M-TV watching morons who argue over what the meaning of "is" is and that oral sex isn't really sex makes this type of reading essential to any moral-minded American--especially if you are raising children, so that you understand the environment that they are in within the education system in the US.

Highly recommeded.

Summary: Persecution for a few, Hostility for some, Danger for all
Review: Limbaugh recounts anti-Christian incidents in academia, culture & entertainment, media, and politics that seem to backed up by the source section in the back of the book. As stated in the title of the review, what is going on in America today is not uniform to each individual believer. A case can be made that the more vocal and public a believer is in their faith, the more that person can expect incidents, described in 'Persecution', to occur.

There's undoubtedly a sea change of experience for the American Christian in that what is occurring over the last several years has not been experienced before in this country. The strength of book is it's compilation of recent events that are occuring in the U.S.--liberals simply cannot deny that they have it in for the American Christian. It's rather obvious that liberals see Christians, particularly evangelical Christians, as the symbol of all that is wrong with this country. Thus, liberals have conducted war on Christianity in America in all areas of public life. Evangelical Christians see this happening due to their 'absolute' beliefs in the Bible and their willingness to proselytize. Those in other denominations, where there is not a recent history of strong public presence of evangelization and a conservative, faith-based political activism are not likely to experience some of the more negative sentiment that is aimed at Christians in this society.

It is this varying degree of experience that I think presents itself as a weakness of this book. It's safe to say that the experience of 'liberal' non-evangelical Christians in San Francisco, or anywhere for that matter, is radically different than what is experienced by 'conservative' evangelical Christians.

The warning to all in this book is that America is fast losing it's place as the standard bearer of religious freedom in this world. This is not the same place you or your parents grew up in. Liberals may see that as a victory, but that victory is temporary. May the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be forever praised.

Summary: Important reading for those interested in American liberties
Review: Limbaugh's book was easily readable and well documented. He gives example after example of discrimination directed specifically towards Christians. As a matter of fact, this book has more examples than it does free prose by Limbaugh. Many, many of these are found at many religiously conscious web sites. He points out the hypocrisies of the neo-tolerant crowds, again, with documented specifics. For instance, he talks of many occurrences where groups allowed one set of ideals and pursuits to have freedom, while Christian ideals and pursuits are restricted or outright prohibited. These examples fill the first 10 chapters of his book. Chapter 11 is on the religious nature of our nation's founding and how people today are trying to erase that past and/or pass it off as deism. Chapter 12 is an interview with many noted religious scholars including Marvin Olasky, Ravi Zaccharias and others. I flew through this book because of its ease of reading and Limbaugh's ability to state the case plainly and succinctly. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is worried about the state of affairs today, whether you are a Christian or not. IMO, this book is a must read for all Christians, though. We need to know what's happening and how we can reverse this frightening trend in the US.

Summary: Compilation/Confirmation of War on Christianity
Review: Many have thought that there is increasing war from the liberals propoganda machine brainwashing America against Christianity.

Here Limbaugh gives the plain facts for all to see. They, the left, will go to any means, even breaking of the law to rid the country of Christianity. While accepting and promoting in many settings other forms of religion, Christianity is so offensive to this societal segment (academia, NEA, media, et al) that they constantly lash out with all means at their disposal.

Trying to hide under the false guise of Constitutional protection which is not there, they show they are inconsistent, close-minded, and morally defunct. See the valuable treastise on this: A Nation Dedicated to Religious Liberty by Arlin M. Adams and Charles J. Emmerich.

Limbaugh provides case after case after case to show this. Also, as this reviewer has done to his benefit, go on one of the websites of the legal action groups policing this stuff, e.g. FIRE and monitor the current scene.

One can easily surmise that this massive display of evidence is only the tip of the coming iceberg for Christians in a country touted on its very foundations for freedom of religion.

As one other reviewer has put it so well, Christians have been told we will suffer for the precious name of Christ that we bear. Sad to see the day now that it is growing so intense in our own country.

Summary: Argument has fatal flaw.
Review: Right off the bat Limbaugh shows his ignorance. In the introduction he states that the Establishment Clause only prevents the federal government from establishing a religion and does not prevent the state governments from making laws respecting the establishment of a religion. Following that logic we can then say that the Free Excercise Clause only prevents the federal government from prohibiting free excercise and that state governments can prohibit the free excercise of religion, which of course is absurd.

The First Amendment is plain. Individuals are free from government established religion and are free to establish any religion of their choosing, which of course is limited. You cannot practice a religion that sacrifices babies.

Summary: Thorough, accessible and convincing
Review: The author's family name scared me off at first, but he's won me over as a writer. I must admit that I'm his brother's fan, but I had wondered if this book would be bellicose bombast.

What a pleasant surprise and fine contribution to understanding the "culture wars" this volume proved to be!

Especially valuable to me was the final section in which the author demonstrates that the American Constitution could not have been conceived nor born in any but a consensus Christian worldview. If his contention is correct, it will be a matter of time before the current cultural experiement results in the loss of the freedom our forefathers have known.

I recommend this volume to any layperson who wants a crisp overview of the current battles being waged in the education, government, entertainment and the private sectors.

Summary: An eye opening book
Review: There are three stages of persecution: Disinformation, discrimination, and outright persecution. This book does a good job of showing how the first two stages are taking place in this country.
This book is primarily a summary of stories that are going on. Most of the book tells of the problem, with multiple stories to substantiate its theme.
The final chapter is also insightful. David Limbaugh interviews several Christian thinkers, such as James Dobson, Ravi Zacharias, Marvin Olasky, and D. James Kennedy.
If I could give this half stars, I would give this 3 1/2. For me, this is old news. However, unfortunately I think I'm in a minority, and thus I want to encourage people to check this book out.

Summary: I Wish He Could Be Wrong
Review: This book hit me especially hard as it was not only good reading material; but I have lived it. I graduated from high school in 2000. I was one of the few students who would stand up against the liberal and humanist teachings that are now taught as mainstream in public schools as David Limbaugh presents. I was ridiculed and thought to be a student with radical ideas. For a while I was wondering if my thoughts were incorrect as I seemed to usually hold values that the majority did not agree with. Now I realize that they were the ones with incorrect values.

I thank God for giving David Limbaugh the courage to write this book. He is striking back at the liberal forces that are polluting the minds of our children, [...] the noble deeds and intentions of our founding fathers, and degrading the name of God Almighty.

Liberals, BEWARE!!

Summary: Not afraid to speak the truth
Review: This book puts together many examples of the intolerance that is so prevalent in the US against people of the Christian faith. The very people who preach tolerance in this country are the most biased and intolerant of all. Some of these reviews seem to be a simple attack on the author, not a review of the book. I encourage you to actually READ the book if you are going to post a review, instead of simply attacking the author. David Limbaugh has done extensive research and has documented that research in the book.

People who claim to be Christians need to read this book and WAKE UP from their stupor of trying to be just like everyone else in the world. The time is coming in the not too distant future when you will be asked to take a real stand for your faith.

Christians do not want special treatment like so many interest groups out there, they just want to be free to practice their faith, like others are free to practice their particular beliefs.

If you want to trash this book, I suggest you go out and educate yourself first. Start by actually reading the constitution. Then read a few accounts of American History. You can then make an informed decision for yourself instead of simply spouting hate rhetoric that is now in vogue. Think for yourself! Take the time to educate your mind on history and government before you launch a verbal assault that labels you as ignorant and misinformed.

I commend Mr. Limbaugh on his courage to chronical these incidents in this book. And as far as his brother is concerned, whatever happened to compassion for those who get caught in the horrible web of addiction? How can you be so heartless, condeming him?

Read this book if you want to know the truth.

Summary: Hang on to somethng...
Review: This is an excellent read. Mr. Limbaugh deserves much praise for his research and delivery. Bottom line: if the first 100 pages does not have you breaking into a sweat on what is going on in this country's education system (and the fact that some organizations get away with it), check yourself for a pulse.
You will not be able to put this book down.
Thank you, Mr. Limbaugh.
