Rating: Summary: Excellent resource of diabolical information Review: This book covers the wide spectrum of multi-faceted Satanic beliefs and practices, ranging from the The Church of Satan and Anton LaVey (with interviews) to modern black metal music. It contains interviews with many people involved in Satanism, including:Boyd Rice, the founder of the Abraxas Foundation and the star of the band Non An interview with Glenn Danzig and his metal outfit Blanche Barton, the current High Priestess of the Church Of Satan since Anton LaVey's death on October 1997 Details of Aleister Crowley's sordid life The myth of Satanic ritual abuse and reasons why the media wanted you to believe every word of it Marilyn Manson, one of today's premier musicians. "Lucifer Rising" is immaculately reseached, well written and enjoyable. Most other books on this subject pale drastically in comparison. With that said, I'm awaiting another book by this writer- judging from his past material and this offering, he has an eye for quality and adroitness- more than worth the money!
Rating: Summary: Everything you could possibly want to know about Satanism Review: This book has it all! Anton LaVey, Aleister Crowley, Blanche Barton, Peter Gilmore, Count Grisnackh, Coop, Danzig, Boyd Rice, Metallica, Slayer, Venom, etc. Defines what is and is not Satanic, a history of Satanism, four exclusive interviews with LaVey, different branches of Satanism (Although according to LaVey there is only one kind of Satanist), Satanic art. There couldn't be a more complete book about Satanism... well, there could, but it would get boring.
Rating: Summary: Hail Satan! Review: This is an amusing enough collection of interviews and overviews of Satanism-inspired artists in a variety of mediums, as complete as something so eclectic as this could hope to be. Boyd Rice, Glenn Danzig, Anton Lavey and others share their perspectives in between short bio pieces on various weird bands. Filled with black and white photos on nearly every page.
Rating: Summary: Lucifer..rising...rise with him Review: This was a good read detailing the history of Satanism. One of the few books I can think of on the subject written from a Satanists perspective. ....
Rating: Summary: (Yawn) Review: Trivial look at trivial subject matter. No matter which way you cut it, modern American "Satanism" as explored in Lucifer Rising is at best a marginal, silly phenomenon. While Gavin Baddeley does his best to make the subject matter seem interesting and relevant, nothing can detract from the absolute idiocy of those he is interviewing, and the book depends heavily on interviews and personal snippets. Baddeley relies on a bevy of sub culture heavyweights that are supposed to somehow add credence and validity to his work, but they end up intellectualizing subject matter that is better left to dysfunctional, drug-addicted rock stars. If you are looking for an in-depth work that examines modern day pagan/satanic revival and then examines this phenomenon within the context of religious climate, Christian history, etc, don't buy this book. Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind's "Lords of Chaos" is a much more interesting critique of anti-Christian sentiment and pagan/Satanic revival in modern music and modern culture. The key perhaps, is that Moynihan and Søderlind are a bit wary of American "Satanism" and view it for what it is, an anthropocentric stew of diluted Christian myth and awkward teenage rebellion.
Rating: Summary: Fathers of Black Metal Review: Written by Church of Satan Priest Gavin Baddeley, a book of this kind is easily in the ranks with 'Satan Wants You' by Arthur Lyons, as the credits & influences The Church of Satan has had on society & modern culture is fully recognized, thereby giving the Devil His due. There are compelling interviews with Dr. LaVey {whose words are spread throughout the book as relative to the subject of the chapter at hand}, HP Blanche Barton, Mgr. Gilmore, a two-parter with Mgr. Rex Diabolos Church {whose necro-erotic art adorns the front cover}; Timothy Patrick Butler; Michael Moynihan of Blood Axis; Count Grishnacht & Euronymous of the 'Black Metal Circle' {a couple of presumptuous & antagonistic delusionals who declared 'war' on The Infernal Empire. The book is divided into three parts: 1. The History of Satanism, which covers the basic inceptions, superstitiions, & practices of the aristocracies in indulgence, & the revolution of The Black Mass. 2. Satanism in The 20th Century, which includes historical recollections & occultic ties of The Third Reich, Gerald Gardner {the comical origin of 'wicca', which is about as 'ancient' as the turn of the century, & serial killers Richard Ramirez & David Burkowitz, among others. 3. The Satanic Millenium, explains the Infernal rise of the internet, diabolical board games, Columbine, Marilyn Manson, the afore-mentioned 'Black Metal Circle', & the future influences of Satanism upon the world. Lucifer Rising takes on where Satan Wants You leaves off, & is a must for Satanists to possess --- indeed, it is absolutely a part of Church of Satan history. This book is unprecedented, as it is a record written by a Satanist, someone who knows what we're all about, & thus takes an objective view on the subject, instead of the usual biased & bigoted misrepresentations of xoid Satanophobes. A real work of art. Hail Gavin Baddeley! Hail Satan!
