Rating: Summary: A Bad Joke of a Book Review: Never have a been so completely surprised that a book actually got published. This was the most poorly written and edited book I have ever read. I know those comments seem exaggerated and improbable. But if you begin reading In the Meantime, you will see what I mean. African-Americans adore this book and this author only because she is a fellow African-American. And I can not believe Oprah Winfrey even read this. If you are honestly interested in a book because of its content, then you will learn nothing from In the Meantime.
Rating: Summary: My prayers has been anwsered when I read this book. Review: Mrs Iyanla has opened up alot of closed doors that's been locked and it seems as if the key was thrown away.I have rose past the attic, and I am still rising higher and higher. Thank you for this wonderful book, And advise every woman should read this book. Alot of topics that Mrs Vanzant spoke on and brought to the surface open up thing that happened in my life and since I read this book I have to give thanks to Mrs Vanzant and some credit as well for understanding that all women are not in this alone. Thank you.And one more thing. I love you for the knowledge that you has inspired me with when no-one else would take the time to. Thank you Ms Blakeney in New York.
Rating: Summary: Tells you the truth with humour and candor Review: I loved this book! Having seen Ilyana on the Oprah Winfrey show I loved her sense of humour and her approach to life and I couldn't wait to purchase this book. My investment was well worth it! I found myself identifying with many of the situations and at a time when I was doing my own "house cleaning" I found it helpful that I was not alone and that what I was thinking and doing was not strange or weird.Go Ilyana! I can't wait to read your next book, I'm sure it will as inspiring as you are!
Rating: Summary: If you don't get it, your just not ready Review: To the last reader who gave up after the first 4 chapters - you just arent ready to absorb what Iyanla has written. She has not sold herself out for money. She is trying to teach us lessons without slapping us is the face with each point. She gives us colorful stories to make us work a little to learn. If you dont enjoy this book, its not Iyanlas fault, you just werent ready to take on something this meaningful.
Rating: Summary: I personally did not like the writing style of the book. Review: The book was not easy to follow and I found myself loosing interest easily. I expected a more dynamic book. I expected to relate to the book more, it left me wanting. The 3 stars are a bit generous but 2.5 was not an option. Not my kind of author.
Rating: Summary: The power and realization that the truth can bring Review: The realization that it is okay to be angry, it is okay to cry, and it is okay to want is such an emotional release, and that in itself is a break through to spiritual fullfillment in our lives. In the Meantime teaches us not to hide behind superficial meaningless emotional cliches that don't let you be honest to yourself and to others. That dramatic poor me philosophy is no longer acceptable. This book forces you to dig to the roots of who you are and what you really want out of this life and she shows you how to get there. Iyanla Vanzant is truly a spiritual teacher.
Rating: Summary: I gave up and returned the book Review: I am a busy professional and a single dad. I bought and read the book at the urging of a female friend. By the third or forth chapter I was exhausted from trying to string together the unorganized meandering of an otherwise well-meaning author. Nothing new was presented in this work, and what was was not well written or edited. I gave up and returned the book. If this book represents what today's women are using in their quest for 'self-esteem' and fairy-tale romance, no wonder we are both confused. Please don't expect me to fulfill your fantasies or prop up your sagging ego. One final thought... frankly, I have grown weary in my effort to support African-American writers and artists who offer inferior works and think I should give them my hard earned dollars "just because they're black". Iyanla Vanzant is not the first author to sell out for the dollar, nor will she be the last.
Rating: Summary: Most inspirational book I've read in a long time. Review: Excellent introspective book that delves into the soul. Vanzant has found a way to help us understand where we are in terms of our relationships and the ability to build a healthy lasting relationship with our true soul mate.
Rating: Summary: Vanzant is an Angel on A Mission! Review: Thank you so much Iyanla! Words cannot express how it feels to have a guide that helps one look into their soul and reach out the truth. Although I have a lot of healing to still do, you just keep writing them and I'll just keep buying. You are definitely sent from the skies above. I just hope and pray that those who have read and critized your writings, can one day in their "Meantime," pick up this book, find their stage, and work to completion, because that is what your writings do for people. God Bless you, and keep them coming.
Rating: Summary: Great book. Review: Lets just say this book is honest and straightforward and writes about the meantime experience as a natural process to be embraced.
