Summary: Jihad-Jihad-Jihad
Review: The title, I think, sums up the contents of the book. The book is divided into three parts: Jihad Now, Jihad Then, The Great Jihad Cover-Up. Robert Spencer dedicates the book to "victims of jihad and dhimmitude worldwide:Your sufferings are not forgotten".

This book is a MUST READ, especially given the daily news of instability, explosions, etc. in Iraq and other muslim countries where our troops are deployed. Spencer has studied Islam, read the Koran, Mohammed's commentaries (ahadith) on it, for over twenty years. He acknowledges that many leaders of Islam are highly educated and that really the Osama Bin Ladens of the world are not really fundamentalist, extremist, which is usually the way the West judges them, they are really just being true to the example of Mohammed's ideology of Jihad-Jihad-Jihad in the dar al-harb "domain of war" in non muslim lands. He grabs your attention at the start when he speaks of an incident within the U.S. army on March 22, 2003 when a muslim Sargeant killed 2 people, wounded 15 others as a protest against the war. He argues that Jihad is the foundation of this religion, given through the example of Mohammed and his writings; Jihad, yes, literally translated does mean simply a struggle and can be manifested in more peaceable, non violent ways such as through ideological discussions/literature, yet, it almost always manifests itself, in violence and murders as has happened in the Sudan and elsewhere wherever the religion of Islam is professed. He states that looking at the international situation, where violence occurs, civil wars are fought, an extremely high percentage of the time, the battlelines are drawn where Islam interfaces with other peoples not professing Islam. Three choices are given to others conquered by muslims: convert, if no, death, or payment of Jizhiya, a heavy tax/toll to muslims. When muslims speak of tolerance, it cannot be compared to that which Americans speak of which Spencer notes time and again.

There is much substance in this 300 page book. Throughout, he gives scripture verses etc. from the Koran and other muslim authors to prove his points. The last chapter is probably the most important entitled "How to fight the war we're in" where he discusses how mosques should be monitored, immigration curtailed to deal with terrorists. He mentions how liberal left politicians have invoked Bill of Rights types of arguments defending muslim Americans, and shows that in many cases that is a very dangerous thing to do for the security of the majority of American citizens. He also states very clearly that not all muslims are terrorists, so I think he paints a very realistic and understanding picture of the situation as it is. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Summary: First book to explain WHY we got to Sept. 11
Review: There have been myriad books showing how we got to Sept. 11. They make us feel better by providing convenient scapegoats- the state department, the Saudis, Bill Clinton, capitalism, Israel, or Bush I & II.
Onward Muslim Soldiers, however, takes us inside the mind of the radical terrorists, and shows us how the global network of terror developed according to its own internal logic for over half a century. It's a depressing yet fascinating story peopled with astonishing characters.
As an added bonus the book also addresses Western modes of thought that are so engrained as to be almost invisible to us. The author has a facility for showing us how our own prejudices can trick us.
If you want to understand the war on terror, if you want to understand the terrorists' war on us, read this book.

Summary: Islamic Law is a human rights issue
Review: This follow-up to Islam Unveiled focuses on jihad, a concept embedded deeply in Islam which makes peaceful coexistence with the West difficult.
Spencer outlines the lives and thought of the twentieth century theologians who elaborated the theories of radical Islam. His wide ranging perspective shows that the war on terror is much more than a Wahabbi problem. Shiites, Egyptian Sunnis and even Sufis are part of the mix. Some of this includes very entertaining stories of a radical Muslim theologian who spent some time in American suburbia - as you can guess the radical hated it!
Spencer reports how the increasing Muslim population has already changed Europe. He explores the truly weird alliance between the libertine American left and religiously strict Islamic radicals. He shows how history has been utterly distorted for political ends. He reports how Islamic extremists have embedded themselves among Islamic leaders right here in America and around the world.
Most importantly, Spencer implores us to realize that we are fighting a jihad whether we like it or not, because that is what our enemies have thrust upon us. They are motivated by a desire to brutally make the world conform to their vision of truth.
Onward Muslim Soldiers is important to anyone trying to make sense of history's latest turn. It is well written and quite well documented; it is both a great read and a great source book on radical islam.

Summary: Finally - The Unvarnished Truth About Jihad!
Review: This incredibly insightful book dares to speak the truth about Jihad. A work of caution: this book is not for the faint of heart, or for those happily living in a world of political correctness. This is a courageous book and is meant for those courageous enough to want to know the unvarnished truth about the threat of Jihad.
Robert Spencer's research is thorough, his conclusions are reasoned, and his work is brilliant, if sobering. I am not a Muslim, but like many, after 9/11, I was eager to learn more about Islam and Jihad. I am grateful to Robert Spencer for his work. He supports his position by relying almost exclusively on Muslim sources which are generally unknown in the West but are fundamental to the Islamic faith. Further, he has meticulously referenced his sources so that anyone that takes issue with his writing can check the truth of the book for themselves. This is a story that needs to be told. Kudos to Robert Spencer for spelling it out for us!
