Rating: Summary: Not that great Review: While this book does have a wealth of good information and spells on all kinds of things, Ravenwolf's style is a little bit questionable at times. She seems a little anti-christian at times, and she can be very condescending for someone who claims to write for teenagers. This is an okay book for "beginning" wiccans, but I caution people who are thinking about purchasing this book that it can be a rather, to use a word common to Wiccan subculture, "fluffybunny." If you get this book, please use it only for the bare-bones information and spells. If you want to read a book by Silver Ravenwolf, I suggest her book on American Folk Magic instead.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money Review: Save your money and buy Cunningham's "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner", instead. Aiming the book at teenie-boppers, Ravenwolf oversimplifies and sugarcoats Wicca in order to draw in a younger audince. What Ravenwolf tries to disguise as "eclectic" Wicca, is actually a thrown togeather mish-mash of whatever sounds good which lacks technical accuracy and focus. Ravenwolf takes great liberties by changing meanings to fit her own personal diarrhea blend of generic wicca. There are just so many better beginner's books on Wicca out there.
Rating: Summary: Silver`s Best Yet Review: This is the ultimate book on learning wicca. Ive been waiting for a book to put it all together and explain things in easy to follow format . A must for all from maiden to crone . A great book to own.
Rating: Summary: I recommened it! Review: I think this is a great book, it may be a lot like the other three New Generation Books, but It's got all of it in one book. And of course it's going to sound the same, it's by the same author. I highly recommend it! And also, for those wiccans/pagans who keep writing bad reviews, not to scare anyone, but you sound a lot like a (gasp!) christian...if you know what I mean...
Rating: Summary: Was She Guessing??? Review: Has she stopped researching for these books? I have never returned a book in my life but this one went back to the store. Being Asatru I immediately opened up to the section on runes. That was a joke, they were completely messed up. She changed the names, swapped meanings for the runes, and even included the blank one. Runes are not something that one can debate on, they are what they are. The section of teenie bopper spells was memorable. Of course that kind of throws the three fold rule out the window. Or drives the witch performing them into a pickle, I would not want that backlash. This book was a waste of perfectly good paper.
Rating: Summary: Ultimate? . . . Fluff! Review: I bought this because it seemed to cover a lot of territory. In the end, that's its biggest fault--kind of a lick and a promise approach. Even worse is that this author seems to devote much of her efforts to feeding the usual teenaged angst, and giving youngsters the idea SHE is the only one who understands them. . . very dangerous territory, IMO. One thing to offer generic advice, and another to try to generate a cult following. Some useful stuff within, but even more to have to sift through with a grain of salt. If you're new to this topic, don't make the mistake of ending your search here.
Rating: Summary: Good Reference / Silly Book Review: This book is a huge collection of reference material. However, it confused me a great deal. On the back cover it warns that the book is serious magick, so if you are looking for curses and the likes then put it down. The thing is that upon opening it up, one finds those same curses that the back cover indicates are missing. It is worth the money for the reference material.
Rating: Summary: The Ulimate Book of Modern Witchcract Review: If you are on a budget, or simply don't want to purchase dozens of books on the Craft, this is the book for you! A modern Solitary Witch can practice for a lifetime with only this book for guidance. While I believe that one should read everything one can get on any subject of interest, this book will be my primary source from here on. Let me first say that I have long been a fan of this authors practical, down to earth and open sharing of her practice and experience. I find those who refer to her books in a negative way are usually those who resent her success and her openess in sharing what some would like to use to boost thier own ego by wanting others to think that the practice of the craft is some deep dark secret know only to them and their trad or group. As for me, I will be selling many of the books I have accumulated over many years of practice as a Solitary Witch, as I will be using the spells and rituals in this book instead of digging through a dozen books to find just what I'm looking for. For the record, I am a dedicated servant of the Freya, and I find no conflict with this Wiccan based book and my practice of the Northern Tradition. While I personally could do without reference to Angels and Christian Witchcraft, (I believe Christians can indeed practice a powerful form of magick in the ceremonial tradition, but one cannot be Wiccan AND Christian.), it should be no problem for the readers of this book. Just use what you like, and skip what you don't want. There's such an abundance of information here, that you can easily skip a little and still have more than enough. There is a chapter devoted to the young witch or wizard. If you are a Crone, like myself, don't skip this chapter. Who but us will bring along the next generation? We need to know what is important and practical for the Teen Witch so that we can be better and wiser teachers. Well done, Silver Raven Wolf
