Summary: A bible for all the aeons
Review: When I had first discovered the Satanic Bible, I was a teenager who did not know what he believed in. After reading Anton's words of insight into the human animal, I felt that there were other people who I could identify with. This book served me well when I was a High Schooler, and it still serves me as a Psychotherapy major in Graduate School.

Summary: Anton Speaks Up
Review: Anton LaVey has written the First Satanic Bible to my knowledge and it has actually helped me out. I have chatted and have found that people don't know what some names mean, so they can't kick and ban me from any sites. No one needs to believe me. I THINK THAT UNTIL CHRISTIANS TAKE THE TIME TO SIT DOWN AND READ WHAT HE HAS WRITTEN, THEN THEY ARE WASTING THEIR TIME BY CRYING ABOUT THE PUBLISHING OF THIS BOOK! If any Christian finds this offensve, I don't apologize because that is the honest stone cold truth.

Summary: I am not a Satanist, Christian, or Wiccan
Review: If you want Humanist ideals, be a Humanist not a Satanist, if you want no institution be an anarchist(go to anarchy.org good site)and anyway if Satanism is against institutionalized religion, why is it an institution? and why does it have all these uneccessary rites(I have been to Satanicchurch.com and YES no matter what a Satanist tells you, they are into rituals and stuff), if you are a strong supported of individuality don't be a conformist, all of their ideals are contradictory to others, or you don't need their religion for

Summary: Satanic (inteligent atheist) Bible
Review: This explains the difference between real satanists and shock-rock freaks. The book shows that there are many mistruths about satanism and that you should look into the real thing before judging on mistruths.

Summary: The Art of the Carnival
Review: Anton LaVey was certainly a very astute man, and a fascinating character too. This book is good in many aspects: It can be a powerful antidote for those who have never seen any but mainstream thoughts expressed before; it can provide a channel for people who are seeking to increase the outlets for power, control, and the 'evil' emotions in their life instead of repressing themselves; it avoids the violent and illegal craziness that cat-sacrificing, media (and Christian leader) promoted varieties of 'Satanism' may inspire; and it can provide grounds for a tasty lawsuit if brought into the right public-school classroom.

However, in the long run, the truly powerful option is to forge your own identity and philosophy in life. Therefore, while reading and even somewhat agreeing with this book is fine, simply taking in its precepts hook, line, a sinker would prove to be as much a mistake as doing the same for any other religion or school of thought.

Summary: Good guide to self-directed pyschodramatic therapy
Review: Regardless of whether or not you are religiously inclined, or do or do not believe in the literal existence of Satan, if you are an intelligent person you will almost certainly believe that most of "The Black Pope's" philosophical arguments make perfect sense once you read this most entertaining book. As for the rituals, there is very little herein that one can not find in any treatise on the Gardnerian variety of witchcraft (known as Wicca to us moderns). My biggest problem with LaVey is that he attacks the Wiccans for being "white light" and Christian influenced when he himself can not break free of the Judeo-Christian traditions he claims to despise: why not call Pan by his own name instead of Satan's? Why drag in a lot of biblical devil names when the list of indiginous European deity names serve the purpose so much better? Was LaVey a true pagan or just a rebellious Christian? Makes me wonder... The rituals do not differ that much from the standard Wiccan rites (sword, chalice, altar, pentacle, candles, the quarters and elements, the eight standard witchcraft holidays on which to preform rites, invocations, lust/destruction/compassion visualizations, burning messages to be sent into the aether, etc.). I must admit, I could do without all of the Enochian Key nonsense. If you are into ceremonial magic and mind-cleansing psychodrama, AND REALLY FEEL THE NEED TO BUG YOUR PIOUS CHRISTIAN FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, AND FAMILY, then buy this book and take it to heart. If the first two of these apply to you (and not the third), then just buy this book for entertainment and knowledge. I suppose the rituals in the SB are a good way to relieve stress and to motivate yourself to action, if you're comfortable with (and entertained by) all of the satanic imagery. Otherwise, look into Wicca.

Summary: The satanic Bible
Review: I read this book back when I was into the occult, and yes, satanism. I was a very hateful person back then, and I can understand that there are many others out there who have nothing else to hold onto or believe in than trying to be tough and evil in today's world in order to survive and stay sane. But this isn't the answer. First of all, the author doesn't really consider satan a real entity, so what's the point? Secondly, his viewpoints are more consistent with evolution than satanism. As for my final point, I can only say, this book is only impressive to those seeking power in all the wrong places. Otherwise it has no insights into anything other than "watching out for number 1." Please don't think everyone in the world is like this, just because you've been hurt doesn't mean you have to turn to total destruction.

Summary: Tsk, tsk...beat his wife _and_ his dog
Review: The late Anton Le Vay was just one in a long line of con men who played his scam for the usual reasons of fame and fortune. (In his case he got the fame, but not the fortune: he spent most of his life living in his parents' house, and the last part of his life on welfare.) He no more believed in Satan than he did in God; he just happened to cash in on the adolescent need to rebel. In order to make himself larger than life (he was basically an underemployed nitwit most of his life) he invented a lot of interesting stories about himself; affair with Marilyn Monroe, youngest member in a famous orchestra, etc., etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseum. Had he not chanced upon the "Satanic" label for his book, it probably would have never been published; it would have been just another vaguely 'humanistic' philosophy, the kind you sometimes hear from not-very-good college professors. You'd think he could have come up with _something_ original; I mean, he was reduced to stealing ideas for this book from a goofball like Ayn Rand! That's just plain pathetic. (Oh, I almost forgot: he really did beat his wife and dog. Such an admirable man.)
