Rating: Summary: modern ??? Review: Its not Modern ( nearly 50 years old now) Its not science ( no verifiable external data) Its arguably not healthy. Don't bother.
Rating: Summary: Unsubstantiated... Review: The author makes claims of 'studies' and 'research' but these are not mentioned anywhere. Hey, there's no bibliography! What the author claims is 'science' turns to be his beliefs.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book! It works. Review: I first studied Dianetics 30 years ago and have used it to help myself and others since that time. If you have pressures in your life that seem unconfrontable, unwanted emotions and reactions, then this book is a must. Ian Shillingto
Rating: Summary: Real & Effective Self Help Review: It is hard to know where to start because this book covers so much. What is the human mind? How does it work? How can it be made to work better? Why do people act the way they do? All these question are answered and, more importantly, the question "What can I do about it?" is thoroughly answered with workable techniques which are explained in detail. As the author says: "You are beginning an adventure ... may you never be the same again."
Rating: Summary: The mechanics of the Mind, discovered and codified. Review: I enjoyed this book. I've used its procedures and found them remarkably effective. I recommend this text for someone wishing to improve and get more in touch with their 'inner self'.
Remarkable!
Rating: Summary: Complex, but worth the effort to understand it Review: This is not "light reading"! This book takes some attention and a good dictionary, but, the concepts are like no other. There is useful information in this book and that when applied does bring about change for the better! Our society is in a bad state of affairs with drug addiction, crime and divorce at record highs. A book like Dianetics is a blessing only because it puts the individual in a postion to change their undesirable behavior. Dianetics is a road map, if one decides to follow it they will get to where they want to go. I have seen postive changes, I have experianced postive changes. I would suggest this book to anyone who is willing to take a road to a better life
Rating: Summary: A primer on the Human Mind Review: In a time when life's complexities seem almost overwhelming, having lived through the most violent century this world has ever seen, a time when it seems there is no answer, nor a good reason, for man's inhumanity to man, along comes a book that not only brings understanding to this madness but offers true help of how to change the course of our futures to where life can be lived more happily, but also how to help one's fellow man. It gives tools and methods to live life with confidence. This is a refreshing book and I now understand why this book has been on top of the best seller list for so many years. Read it! Find out for yourself
Rating: Summary: Hilarious! L. Ron Hubbard Skewers Rational Thought! Review: The book that spawned one thousand informercials! Let L. Ron Hubbard tickle your funnybone with his dry humor as he tries to "self-help" himself to your checking account in this send-up of rational thought.
It's Jekyll and Hyde without the Jekyll as Hubbard introduces the theories that populate his "Science of the Mind". Take a tour of Hubbard's inner-laboratory and discover the super-human UberFolks called "Clears" or clap with delight as he uncorks mankind's greatest invisible threat, Engrams. Just don't ask to see the results of his often mentioned "research" because this Sideshow Scholar of the Sensational is all barker and no bite.
Read the book and the next time you see a Dianetics infomercial you can proudly proclaim, "The book was better!"
Rating: Summary: SOME OF THE BEST DATA ABOUT LIFE EVER WRITTEN DOWN! Review: The data in this book actually did change my life. Not just a collection of philosophical theories, this book contains specific techniques you can use to better your life and others. I also like the fact that L. Ron Hubbard is very AGAINST the use of such things as drugs, hypnosis, and any form of psychiatric "mind control" as a means to solve problems. These things are NOT a part of Dianetics. In other words, Dianetics is a very practical and workable action that does not require anything strange or harmful to use. And the gains are specific and definite, not just "mental" in nature. I like this book, but more importantly, I applied this book. It's not just for reading; it's for use. CAUTION: this is not for the "faint of heart".
Rating: Summary: Big book, but worth sticking with it till the end Review: I bought this book because I was looking for actual reasonsthat I was doing things I didn't want to do. I'd had enough of peopletelling me why I was the way I was, and as a result of their attempts to help me, still have nothing change. This book turned out to be electrifying! There were understandable explanations of why I was operating the way I was and not only did the book contain the explanation how my mind was working, but it contained a full description of how to "fix it". I then arranged to work with someone to follow the techniques as outlined in the book. They DO work. My life has changed 1000% for the better and there were no drugs, brain surgery, shocks, or hypnosis involved. The book was originally written in 1950, when the literacy rate in the country was much higher than it is today, so it can be a bit of a rough go at times. Just use the footnotes and glossary extensively and you should be able to make it through just fine.
