Summary: Your probably better off reading Mastering the Zone.
Review: I've actually tried many of the methods in the book without success. If you'd like to gain 10-20 lbs, the listing of food will work fine. To date, have you seen the author at one of his lectures? He's a little on the heavy side.

Summary: Getting Control of Your Own Health
Review: I've always found Chopra's books interesting and insightful, and this one brings many of his ideas together. For those trapped by the machinations of traditional Western medicine, this is a truly wonderful book.

Summary: EXCELLENT! A NEW WAY OF LIFE!
Review: In all of Deepak Chopra's books, I've admired his extraordinary compassion for his fellow man. This book is no exception. In it, Chopra recognizes the basic differences among body types and he offers us a lifestyle plan for maximizing the health of each, based of the ancient Indian tradition of Ayuveda. Recognizing the fact that you can't fit a square peg into a round hole, Chopra doesn't make the mistake of suggesting that we all strive for the severely anorexic look that is destroying the health of so many today. A few of the previous reviewers have attacked Chopra, saying he is overweight. I've never noticed that and I've seen him many times. Even if he were, his weight should not be an issue here. And isn't it time that SOMEONE put wellness before superficiality? Besides, what could be more stunning than glowing, radiant health?

Summary: Perfect Health: The Complete Mind Body Guide - Deepak Chopra
Review: Perfect Health is possible and Deepak shares his knowledge with us, on how to accomplish this, in this newly revised edition that includes all of the new medical insights so that we may reach this goal and experience Perfect Health. Ayurveda tells us that freedom from sickness depends on contacting our own awareness, bringing it into balance, and then extending that balance to the body. The goal is to integrate our mind-body connection so that we may experience wholeness in our "being" that extends to our body by balancing our doshas according to our own individual requirements to establish Perfect Health.

We learn that following the clues in nature to reestablish our essential balance with nature is important. We are so connected to the earth that the foods that grow in the same area as we do are important in creating that balance with nature. Realizing that our diet, stress reduction, neuromuscular integration. exercise and our daily routine are all a part of this balance is so important to us and that the only way we will be able to accomplish this is by putting our awareness and attention to these issues. Where our awareness, our consciousness, and attention reside is not some "new age" idea but an idea whose time has come!

How to put this newfound information in action to accomplish the mind-body balancing act? I see that my spiritual journey, that has me soaring through the cosmos has my mind, my spirit and my soul at the heights of awareness and bliss! My body unfortunately has been left behind on this journey and now needs some attention. Busy and productive days and "being" mindful, thoughtful, meditative and calm has been so interesting that I didn't realize how neglected my body was until...something didn't fit, I saw a recent picture and was "shocked", how did this happen? Ok, let's see...standing in the kitchen eating, my laptop surrounded by comforts such as sodas and candy...my "staples" for the day until an early dinner eaten in haste because suddenly I'm ravenous...then filled to distress all evening! This is not my idea of gracious dining. What am I doing? So I finished reading Perfect Health...ordered a new bathing suit for inspiration, and now my mind reaches into the quantum field and virtual reality transforms how I envision myself. My mind adores the picture I see! Let's see if I can accomplish this vision! How will I do? I'll let you know in June!

Summary: Perfect Health is Not Free...
Review: Perfect Health offers a good introduction to Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of healing introduced to the larger American audience by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the 1970's and popularized by Chopra himself. Chopra presents the ancient healing art in a modern idiom, blending insights from the ancient Ayurvedic sages with modern-day information on quantum physics, diet, and lifestyle. He presents a perfectly accessible tool for any reader who is interested in learning more about Ayurvedic methods for influencing health. A body-type questionnaire in the beginning of the book sets the stage for the information that follows. By following the listed recommendations for your body-type (including exercise and diet) Chopra believes you will improve your health dramatically.

My only concern with this book, and Chopra's books in general, is the subtle way he blends advertisements for Maharishi Ayurvedic services and products in with the information. He presents the benefits of Transcendental Meditation, for example, without offering any insights on how to perform the meditation. Want to learn? Chopra advises you to call your local Maharishi Ayurveda clinic. It maybe true that TM has to be taught face to face, but Chopra's veiled advertisements extend to almost every suggested healing exercise in the book, from aromatherapy to primordial sound techniques, to specific herbs that can be mail-ordered from the Maharishi Ayurveda center. To be fair, he does offer helpful diagrams on yoga postures as well as very specific diet techniques, but after reading the inspiring book, Quantum Healing and now Perfect Health, I have to admit: I am a little disappointed in Chopra's style. But I guess I should have known, perfect health, like most things in life, is free.

Summary: Perfect Health ---- revisited --- progress report
Review: Reading Perfect Health again to reaffirm my desire to get healthy from the inside out. Having a little more trouble integrating the mind-body connection than I anticipated. I know what needs to be done and why. Thought I could navigate this and be in a better place to share now but many things happened that kept me from accomplishing my goal. I've reread and absorbed all of the information on the doshas and this is very important, I see that being a kapha dosha that I need to do the exact opposite of what I'm currently doing to start this journey to Perfect Health. I have integrated the quantum field information and digested it completely. Now I see that the recent loss of my Mother has all of my attention on processing my feelings, thoughts and emotions and although I am grieving well for my Mother because I know we are still together in a new relationship, I am still experiencing a disturbance between what my mind knows to be true and what my earthly memories are and it seems I must not go back and forth challeging my minds acceptance for in this struggle back and forth in my reality I see that my body is suffering terribly. I have realized this and now am getting back on track in accepting this new place where I know my Mother lives. If my daily routine had been healthy during my Mothers transition I would have been in a much better place phyically now but habits and daily routines are hard to adjust it seems. Small changes of choices in eating and attention and awareness to what I am doing are definitely helpful. Walking is something I have started to do in a small way and must continue this to realize what my mind perceives I will look like when I accomplish this. So my mind is way ahead of my body on this and realizing and doing are two different things I find. So I will reread Perfect Health and if I can accomplish my vision I will let you know how I accomplished this...wish me luck!

Summary: Perfect Health by Deepak Chopra
Review: Since the author of this book is an Indian, he must know the value of Ayurveda very well. This management guru has the ability to describe human body in its most subtle ways and each and every one is able to understand what he says. Once you read this book you will have a better understanding about alternative medicine. You will also see yourself in a better way. According to the author once we have the power to control our thoughts, we will be in "Perfect Health" and then there is no need for any traditional medicines. In short this highly informative book tells you what you should know about Ayurveda. He could have avoided the plug ins for Maharishi Ayurveda Products.

After eliminating my coffee habit with the help of a wonderful coffee substitute made from soya beans called "Soyffee", I'm feeling so much better. My doctor recommended it to help lower my cholesterol and promote strong bones. It's available online at www.S o y c o f f e e.com

Summary: Very interesting and confusing.
Review: The first few chapters of this book were extremely interesting to me, but the more I read the more confused I became. Prehaps it was because when I took the body type test I came out 50-50 between two types. Chopra gives an excellent overview to Ayurvedic medicine and does have some help for people who are not clearly one body type or another, but the bulk of the book is spent on helping people who are clearly a Vata, Pitta, or Kapha. In fact some of the information for 50-50 types was contradictory which only heightend my confusion.

I recomend to borrow a friend's or library's copy and take the body type test first. If you are clearly one body type over another and interested in Eastern medicine I would highly recomend this book. But it didn't help me personally.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Mediocre and over priced
Review: The postive points of this book are that it is upbeat and gives you a few practical steps to do. The bad side is that it gives you *few* practical steps to do. The hard information could have been fit into a pamplet.

The rest of the book has testimonials, a slight feel of flim-flam and a subtle advertisement for his line of products.

Other books on the subject for the same price easily have 4-5 times practical information.
