Summary: A Total Delight !!!
Review: This novel was sweet, charming, and lovingly written. Just what we all need once in a while. It was both written and narrated by a Quaker pastor, and I would like to meet either of these men!

I have long been interested in the Quaker faith, although in the east, Quakers are much less organized than in the Midwest as depicted by Gulley - I have never heard of a Quaker pastor.

Gulley has such a wonderful way of writing about the inhabitants of Harmony - the reader certainy gets to know them well. Each chapter was a different story and all were equally enjoyable. I especially liked the ones about his anniversary gift to his wife, installing the new toilet, and the trip to the Choctaw reservation.

Here is one of the passages that really appealed to me. Pastor Gardner is talking about the divided food trays that are used in school cafeterias:

"The trays were a disservice, leading us to believe the rest of life would be orderly, though it never was. They'd have been better off stirring our food together and telling us that was how the world was--mixed up and out of kilter. Instead, they had us walk in lines and didn't let our food run together. They taught us harmony and sent us forth into chaos."

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a book that gives them good laughs and a nice warm feeling.

Summary: I'll gladly come home to Harmony!
Review: Though some have unfavorably compared his Harmony series to Jan Karon's Mitford series, Philip Gulley has, to me, tapped into a different vein. Characters in his book are neither incredibly good nor incredibly bad (as they sometimes seem in Karon's books) and the slices of life are not a story, but more a collection of short stories that all have a moral. I am completely thrilled with this series and get a good laugh out of most of them. Gulley has a winner and I hope they keep coming!

Summary: Somewhat amusing but ultimately unfulfilling
Review: What a delightful book! I really enjoyed it and related to the characters on a personal level. First, my father is an Episcopal Minister, and trust me, there is a Dale Hinshaw in every church! I was laughing out loud at some of the characters because they ring so true. I also went to a Quaker boarding school for high school, so I could relate to issues within the church itself. Very quick and witty read! I definately recommend it!

Review: What can I say....yet another wonderful novel by Mr. Gulley. Ahhh...to find that place of "Harmony" in your own heart...that is what happens in all of the "Harmony" books. Mr. Gulley artfully gives all of us permission to go to a simpler time and go home to where God touches the center of our soul not only with entertainment but with touches of grace, faith and perserverence. Kudos....many times over for Mr. Gulley's willingness to create and invite us all Home to Harmony!
