Summary: An Informative and Very Interesting Book
Review: Although the title is HAUNTED LIGHTHOUSES, this is much more than a ghost-hunter's guide. In addition to describing the supernatural phenomena associated with each lighthouse, the author provides historical information and very helpful travel tips for visitors. The lighthouses in the book include St. Augustine and Pensacola Lights in Florida, Boston Harbor and Plymouth (Gurnet Point) Lights in Massachusetts, St. Simons Island Lighthouse in Georgia, Maryland's Point Lookout Light (said to be the most haunted lighthouse in the US), New London Ledge Light in Connecticut, Maine's Seguin Island Light, and White River and Old Presque Isle Lighthouses in Michigan.

The book is illustrated with both vintage and recent photographs. For example, a little girl who haunts the keeper's house at the St. Augustine Light is shown in a photograph with her sister, both of whom drowned near the light in 1873. The chapter on the Boston Harbor Light is particularly intriguing and includes ghost stories associated not only with the lighthouse itself, but those of nearby Castle Island (which inspired Poe's THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO) and Georges Island (haunted by the "Lady in Black," the spirit of a Southern lady hanged during the Civil War).

I highly recommend HAUNTED LIGHTHOUSES to anyone interested in lighthouses and/or ghosts.
