Rating: Summary: money doesn't grow on trees Review: A great book to get you thinking about how you relate to your kids and how to begin teaching them about money management. Ellie Kay is a chocolate loving, coffee drinking, and deeply religious military wife who is a mother of five. "Money Doesn't Grow On Trees" is a fun, practical book with stories from the family of the author. Throughout the book runs a theme that saving money is a skill that you can teach your children, not only so that you and your children can avoid being crushed by consumer debt, but also so that you will have money to help others in need. Ellie Kay tells you how she does it, and how you can do it. "Money Doesn't Grow On Trees" is a fascinating read, so make sure that you budget at least five hours when you get started - you will not want to put the book down!
Rating: Summary: A fan from Hong Kong Review: Ellie is a gold mine of information regarding saving money and spending what we have wisely. I have 3 children and was pulling my hair out trying to teach them that the way to earning money is not by holding your hand out to daddy. I have read this book more times than I can count and have found and implemented many ideas. My 13 year old daughter is not very fond of her actually having to do something now but she can't hold her hand out forever. We have to remember that what we teach them now greatly effects their future. To have anything when you become an adult, you have to work and be on a budget. With the ideas Ellie has in her books, you can teach your children now. I don't want to see my children have a rough time when they are older because I gave them whatever they wanted when they were younger. I have noticed since my 7 year old has been working for that "I gotta have it toy", he takes care of them better and doesn't forget where he puts it.Buying Ellie's books has been the best investment I could make to our budget. Thank's Ellie!
Rating: Summary: 3rd time is a Charm! Review: Ellie is such a gifted author! As someone who doesn't usually like to read self-help books, I must say that this book has humor and real life illustrations that keep me going. I didn't want to put it down! Her ideas for training your children how to manage money are so helpful and realistic. And the best part about it is that she weaves in all the principles we adults need to know for our own financial management, too!

Rating: Summary: A must have for families! Review: Ellie Kay has done it again. In this book Ellie lays everything out on the table when it comes to teaching your child about finances. Funny thing though, I learned a thing or two myself! Every aspect is broken down from age zero to eighteen and beyond! I immediately applied what I had learned on my children and saw a dramatic change within one week. You must get this book along with her other books, "Shop, Save and Share" and "A Womans Guide to Family Finance". Your family will thank you later!
Rating: Summary: "Another Winner!" Review: Ellie Kay has done it--again! Her "family stories" are the true laboratory where she's practiced and refined her money-saving techniques. The results are astonishing, and others have found similar results using her suggestions. This book will be a reference manual--especially for parents seeking to train their children not only how to save money, but also in learning real stewardship. Parents needing to bring their children "up to speed" on the financial realities of life will find plenty of helpful ammunition, and will appreciate these "I-can-use-these-tomorrow!" suggestions. At the end of each of her first ten chapters, Ellie's included insights from others in a section she's labeled "Real-Life Tips from Real People." The 11th chapter offers extremly practical, age-appropriate activities that will help parents train their growing children in the principles of finance on a level they can easily grasp. Ellie's final chapter--"Cash for Kids"--provides just what it says. I stopped counting at 30 different ways young people will be taught and encouraged to earn some cash on their own! (To be honest, I even found some I can use myself!)
Rating: Summary: A WONDERFUL Blessing!!! Review: I have been looking for ways to save money since I quit working and started homeschooling. We have two boys, 10 and 9. THANK YOU! Your books answered the prayer! I gained MANY ideas of how to instruct my sons to manage money better as well as my self! My sister "borrowed" Money Doesn't Grow On Trees... it is okay if she keeps it....I will just order another to refer back to! God bless you.
Rating: Summary: Great tool for parents!! You must get this book! Review: I have read Ellie's other two books and really enjoyed them, but this one is the best yet!! As usual, it is full of wonderfully funny stories to which any parent can relate! It is very entertaining, but also very practical! I believe every parent can benefit from the wisdom in this book. Ellie gives you the tools you need to raise financially responsible children with a strong work ethic - something often missing in today's young people. You will learn how to handle a child's desire to wear only name brand clothes and to "keep up with the Jones'", and how to encourage your children to raise money themselves for the items they feel they must have. This gives a child the confidence and self-assurance that money cannot buy! Great book!! I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Parents Can Save Money by Teaching The Value of a Buck! Review: I've read Ellie's other two books and have saved probably thousands of dollars by the time I've applied her expert tips to my grocery budget (Shop, Save and Share) and when we bought our car and home (How To Save Money Every Day). Now, Ellie is venturing into a slightly different area in this "Financial Parenting" book. I just love her chapter openings that are so funny (and all parents will echo that they are 'so true'too!) My fave part of this book were the steps to teach kids a work ethic. I was never taught a work ethic, but I can teach my kids with Ellie's help. I also like her chapter on allowances as we were always confused about how to handle this. Since Ellie has five children she really is an expert in parenting too and this book shows it. This is so worth the... price...
Rating: Summary: 3rd time is a Charm! Review: Once again , Ellie has made saving money, and sharing with others a blessing. You not only share with people you dont know but with the help of this book with those you do. What better way to equip your children for their financial future, than to have a jewel of a book like this one. Not only has Ellie made a huge hit with this one of a kind book. I was able to see her on Power Lunch on CNBC. She was awesome, sharing with the World her newest addition to the family of Financial Brillance. Way to Go Ellie !!! Look forward to your next Book.
