Summary: NASB Ultrathin Reference Bible, Foundations Publications Ed.
Review: Font and bible size perfect. Alternate or "more literal" renderings in margins priceless. Multiple cross-references very helpful. The best original text (i.e., Greek/Hebrew) that the translation is based upon is still debated, so do compare with other "literal" translations (like the KJV/NKJV), but let the Holy Spirit guide, and listen to what He speaks to your heart. Like the paragraph format (as opposed to the verse-by-verse format) -- more easily readable. The best NASB format I've come across in years of searching.

Summary: An Ultrathin Bible That You Can't Go Wrong With
Review: Lockman Foundation has been producing NAS Bibles for years and this time they have a gem. This edition of the Updated 1995 New American Standard Bible is perfect for studying, reading, or teaching. The pages are crisp, the verses are in paragraph form (which I feel is better for contextual teaching) and it has over 95,000 center column cross references. No other Bible even comes close to this many cross references.

I recommend you purchase the genuine leather edition. The leather is durable and looks great. The Bible is smyth-sewn and comes with a ribbon marker.

Overall, this Bible is great. The NASB is the most literal Bible you can purchase and while it takes time to get use to reading from it (as opposed to say dynamic-equivalent translations such as the NIV or NLT), you will enjoy the comfort of knowing that you are holding a good looking, literal Bible in your hands.

Summary: A reliable buoy for life.
Review: The New American Standard Bible update in the Ultrathin reference edition is the best bargain you can buy for the most readable literal version of the Holy Bible in the market. Amidst the sea of bible translations, the NASB will always be a reliable buoy for anyone wanting to discover God's truths as revealed in His word. Along with its thousands of cross references, and alterative translations, the NASB ultrathin reference bible can help you unearth valuable insights without the need for extensive notes and commentaries. Its smyth sewn binding makes it a durable, long lasting companion in one's personal walk with God. Why not grab a copy and start getting the benefits of a lifetime (as well as for eternity).

Summary: Best English bible?
Review: This may be the best edition of the best translation of the best Greek and Hebrew texts available. The NASB is of course one of the most literal and accurate translations and this edition does it justice. Get the real leather (Mmm the smell), it's much better than the bonded one. Font and layout is dignified and readable. Bible itself is very thin, about 1 inch. The paragraph format of this edition with its section headings is much better than other NASB editions with each verse on a separate line. No matter what style of NASB bible you want, try and get a paragraph version like the ultra-thin is. It also saves space to make the book thinner. Some other NASB's are verse format with one verse per line, which makes reading it harder, takes up more space per page, puts breaks in the text at unnatural points and encourages taking verses out of context. .... This version includes a ribbon book marker. (Pity it doesn't have two ribbon markers like the Cambridge KJV though). The only thing I don't like is why they waste their time putting the births, deaths and marriage pages at the front.

Thumb indexes, genuine leather and black/burgundy are optional, so make sure you order according to your preference. ...

Summary: A Literal Yet Readable Usefully Annotated Bible
Review: This NASB updated reference Bible is surprizingly readable yet generally very literal. The center column notes on variant readings or literal word meanings is quite useful as are the cross-references. A particular benefit of this edition, as opposed to other NASB's I have seen, is the arrangement of the text into paragraphs, with subheadings to alert the reader to what is occurring in the text below. I would have given this handy and durably bound volume 5 stars, except for two things: one is that is adopts the...convention among some Bible publishers of printing the words of Jesus in red. While the idea of highlighting these words is admirable, using a lower contrast red ink has the practical effect of making these words LESS VISIBLE to the Bible owner who actually wishes to read them. Among possible options for highlighting specific texts, including bold type, underlining, different fonts and type sizes, and indented paragraphs, printing in red is certainly the worst! My other thought is that if you're going literal, why not transliterate names, and YHWH in particular...
