Rating: Summary: If It Suits Your Needs Review: I use the NIV Enhanced for my reading of the Bible. I find that it is particularly useful when inserting insights into verses. Reader has the "Add Text Note" feature which I find indispensable. Whenever I synchronize my Pocket PC, the annotations are also replicated. This way, my notes and bookmarks are also on my laptop. So if I choose to continue reading where I left off, it is still possible to do so on my laptop. The biggest benefit I see is being able to key in my insight wherever I go with the Pocket PC. Being someone who prefers electronics to paper, it certainly makes my reading of the Bible fun and fulfilling.Another wonderful tool is that the NIV Enhanced version is designed to work as a dictionary. If I was reading a book with a Bible reference, I could highlight the reference and do a lookup. If I choose NIV as my "dictionary", the relevent verse would pop-up. I thought this was ingenious, albeit you could only pop one verse up at a time. They should improve this so you can pop-up a whole passage. However, as others have said, it is not the most versatile tool if your usage is one of jumping from one verse to another. It is also handicapped by the inability to see with one glance where you are in the Bible - no reference whatsoever. For that, Laridian for Pocket PC is the better choice. Just my 2 cents.

Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: While the NIV is not my favorite translation, it is nonetheless a very acceptable version and I looked forward to having it on my iPAQ for times when a full size printed Bible isn't availible. Unfortunatly, I did not realize that the e-book version is designed to be read like a novel, from start to finish, rather than allowing jumping from specific verse to verse. I have found no way to navigate except by turning pages or jumping chapters. This obviously is not very practical for following along as ministers preach and teach jumping from book to book and verse to verse teaching topically not chronologicaly. Alas, my first e-book is a complete waste of money! I own numerous computer based Bibles including the NIV and needed this only for my handheld. The inadequate navigation completly ruins it for my intended purpose. I guess this is part of the learning process, but in the future I will do much more thorough research before buying since e-books cannot be returned. I still give it two stars as it is quite beautifull to behold on MS Reader and may well serve the purpose of those wanting to read staight through cover to cover.
