Summary: I didn't read the book because....
Review: I didn't read the book because of the word obedience in its description. Everything else sounded good no matter how hot your belief in Jesus.

To love because of obeying rules - is not authentic love. If you authentically love there is no need for rules. They are followed automatically.

There are no brownie points either, as if we are graded and then graduate to heaven when we die, with some going to heaven with honors and others not. This is heaven. Take it or leave it.

Enough of my opinion - i would like to read the book but i do not agree with the obedience thing and therefore I'll settle for acknowledging the title of the book for being a good one.

In essence - there is no need to throw the baby out with the bath water. Be jesus like. If a church helps you to be jesus like out of authenticity not obedience as if we are dogs in training, then that is great.

Summary: An interesting book...
Review: The book More Jesus Less Religion is a pretty good book. Its not the best book, as some of what is being said has been said before in several other books I've read. Still the authors give their own opinion and their own struggles (and stories of the struggles of others) as examples. By this the reader is able to be more personable with the authors and what the authors want to express on their own journeys.

The book also has a firm foundation of the Bible, there are many references and quotes from the Bible that are used correctly. I appreciate this I was kinda unsure if I wanted to read this book at first as I was a bit weary thinking this was one of those liberal Christians (who aren't really Christians) and Jesus Seminar kind of writings. Luckily for me it wasn't and it was a true spirited Jesus believer sort of book.

Its one of many books out there, its not something that I will say "You have to read" but still it is a good book. Nothing new, but still well written and well developed thoughts on being a Christian.

Summary: A waste of a great title
Review: The title notwithstanding, this book doesn't really say all that much about Jesus. Nor does it say anything critical about religion per se, or why it might be good to have less of it. Instead, the book attempts to describe the authors' idea of a healthy faith; and each of the book's 16 chapters is subtitled "A Healthy Faith Is... [Balanced, Loving, Respectful of Others, etc.]"

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this book started out as a series of sermons. Each chapter reads like a sermon given in a friendly evangelical church: inspiring, encouraging, with nothing too deep or challenging or complicated or critical. As to the intended audience, the authors mention Chuck Swindoll as though they expect readers to know who he is. In fact, the book is reminiscent of Swindoll, and fans of Swindoll should find this book right up their alley. Others may or may not find it helpful, depending on where they're coming from and where they are in their spiritual lives.

Summary: A Must Read For True Spiritual Growth
Review: This book is amazing and one that I will recommend over and over. It speaks to the realities of what it means to be a Christian. Sometimes Christians are expected to be super human (not to have real feelings), even by fellow Christians. This book reminds us that God gave us feelings and we are to bring all of those feelings and emotions to Christ--the good and the bad. For me, this book was confirmation that I am on the right track to a true relationship with my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Before reading this book, please pray and ask the Holy Spirit to open your mind and give you understanding. You must be ready, spiritually, for what the authors say. They don't sugar coat, and they will challenge some old beliefs that may be hindering your relationship with Christ.
