Summary: From a College girl
Review: Hi all, I'm a college girl and I'd been struggling in my faith. Reading this book definately helped me to realize that other people go through the same emotions and dilemmas that I do. All of the characters are very believeable and Lori Wick does an awesome job of developing their personalities, making it realistic by including their strengths AND weaknesses. Wick shows everything in these two girls lives, from growing up, to going to college, to going through bad relationships, to finally finding where their hearts lie..with God. There is so much more to this book that I don't want to write because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. If you're not exactly solid in your faith, or you are, you'll definately love this book. Being a college student, I get tired of the same old trashy books with shallow plots. This was the first book that I've read by Lori Wick, and now I'm for sure going to read more. It's nice to have a good, Christian fiction book that you just can't put down!

Summary: An Honest Review
Review: I have read this book a few times now and also ALL of the reviews listed for it on this site. I am an avid fan of Lori Wick. I can understand people's complaints about "Pretense" being too long and also having graphic detail. But the truth is, I find this book to be a refreshing change for Lori. In every other book her characters are perfect to the point that their only faults are they lost their temper or something. Pretense is a realistic book. Delancey and Micki get involved in worldy things and Lori does go into detail but I think this only adds depth to the book and helps people to relate to the mistakes they may have made in their own lives. I think it is a great witness to non-christians and I wouldn't have any hesitation recommending it. Also, although Pretense is long, I think that only helped increase the realism of the story and let us know the characters more. It had sad, depressing moments but it was true to life. If you want to read a book that is full of light hearted moments then don't read Pretense. But if you want a book that will captivate you and will remind you of God's presence in our lives no matter what the circumstances then definitely read "Pretense".
Also, on another note... while writing reviews can people please try to remember that while it is okay to give their opinions on a book it is entirely different to personally critise an author. I think that's wrong.

Summary: The best book I've read in a long time
Review: I just 'discovered' Lori Wick a few months ago, and she has already become one of my favorite writers. I bought Pretense for my sister for Christmas, and she was so delighted with it that I just had to read it for myself. Since then, I have continued to read Lori Wick books, but have never found one that could hold a flame to Pretense. The plot is just so realistic, not one of those cheesy books where everything turns out perfectly. The message of salvation is woven beautifully into the depths of the book, and I was on the edge of my seat, barely breathing until the moment when Mac and Dj received Christ as their savior.
I have never read such a spiritually moving book. I laughed, I cried, I screamed my head off in anger. The main reason I loved this book so much was because of the close relationship between the Bishop sisters. My own sister and I are extremely close, being twins (how else would I be allowed to read her book?). Because I understood the relationship so well, the Bishop sisters seemed even more realistic to me, so I felt close to the characters themselves. I felt their joy, their pain, their grief.
Pretense is one of the best books that I have read in a long time, and almost anyone will tell you that I read a LOT of books (a day). Lori Wick is an awesome writer, and I recommend this book to anyone and everyone. This book has definitely become one of my top ten favorites. In fact, if possible, I would give it ten stars and a double thumbs-up.

Summary: I loved it!
Review: I just finished this book and although it was long it was an easy read, and the time flew by as I read it. The characters are wonderful, they are so "real" and there is nothing unbelievable about them. It is an encouraging story of two sisters and their lives as they grow up and leave home. I would deffinately read this book again, and I recomend it to everyone! I am sad that it is over... you get really attached to the characters by the end.

Summary: Truly Inspirational, An excellent read.
Review: I just finished this book and i absolutely loved it, after i read "sophie's heart" some months ago, i fell in Love with Lori wick and have searched frantically for her books on the net. I got pretense 5 days ago and after i started reading, it was really hard to put down. I even read till 6 am one day even though i had to be at work by 9 am (thats how good it was), but i did have to put it down sometimes because it was just so disheartening!!!; but other times, i laughed so hard, my roomate probably thought i had gone bonkers. This book is truly inspiring, it has got me thinking about a lot of things especially because i'm like micki in many ways, and thats what inspirational novels are supposed to do -get u thinking.
Thank u Mrs Wick, u've reached out to me in a way i never could have imagined.
If ure thinking about reading this book, stop thinking and go read it. Any problem anyone had with it probably arose from thinking too much like an editor and not a reader. I did that for a while but then threw my editors cap off, else i was going to miss my blessing. Just read it, ull be glad u did!

Summary: Good but not great (like Sophie)
Review: I read Pretense while on vacation. While I enjoyed the story and had trouble putting it down, I found the last half too long and drawn out when it didn't have to be. First Delancey gets sick and then she gets her guy and then Mackenzie gets sick and then she gets her guy. Also, I found that there were to many characters (who were insignificant to the story but present at different holidays, etc. that were listed each time they all got together). I found it hard to keep up with them and eventually skipped over it.

Since this is only the second book of Lori Wick's that I've read, I will look forward to reading others by her. Of the two that I've read so far, Sophie's Heart, is my favorite. I loved Sophie so much that I've purchased copies for other people to read (so I didn't have to give them mine). I wouldn't have a problem recommending Pretense, and I also wouldn't have a problem handing over my copy.

Summary: Pretense
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I have always liked Lori Wick's books and this was better than her others. I felt like I understood what Mackenzie and Delancey were going through even though I have not gone through most of that stuff myself. I would recommend this book to anyone expecially someone who feels like something is missing in there life because Lori Wick really covers that emotions in Pretense.

Summary: tear-jerking
Review: I'm a very big fan of Lori Wick and I believe this to be one of her best books. I can see the main characters vividly and feel their joy and pain. I've never read a book which follows the characters from childhood to adulthood. Mackenzie and Delancey were like friends to me. It was amazing to read about their lives the way the author portrayed them. There were so many facets to the characters. I've read this book twice and will probably read it time and time again. It has some strong Christian viewpoints and shows how God's love can change even the hardest of hearts. If you like to be moved both emotionally and spiritually, I recommend this book to you. Wonderful!
