Rating: Summary: Best short commentary on Matthew in English Review: Blomberg's one volume commentary not only is abreast of current scholarship but shows a a deep concern for the poor and needy which is surely the correct social setting for Jesus and Matthew. The books gives in a brief compass helpful insights on many difficult texts.
Rating: Summary: One of the best non-technical commentaries on Matthew Review: Craig Blomberg has already provided us with what is probably the most lucid introduction to the gospels (Jesus and the Gospels: An Introduction and Survey). Now he has given us one of the finest non-technical commentaries on Matthew's gospel. This work is marked by mature and lucid exegesis that is as edifying as it is informative. Rather than re-shaping the work of other commentators, Blomberg has obviously thought through the exegesis himself, offering concise, clear and cogent explanation of the text. The footnotes offer some interaction with previous and current scholarship. Pastors and teachers will treasure this work.
Rating: Summary: Great Commentary on Matthew Review: Dr. Blomberg is willing to take on the hard passages in a commentary that is reasonable in length, but comprehensive in coverage. Dr. Blomberg does not hesitate to render interpretations that other commentators shy away from, such as Matthew 11:12. If you need a commentary on Matthew and this one is not in your library you are missing something.

Rating: Summary: amazingly useful for all readers Review: There are more technical and lengthy commentaries on Matthew's gospel, and there are shorter commentaries, but this is the one I reach for most.Dr. Blomberg is a respected and gentle scholar who writes with warmth and yet packs insight into each paragraph. Interaction with other scholars are kept to the footnotes which makes this a joy to read, a fascinating (yet reliable) description of "what happened" to Jesus, a valuable resource for the Sunday School teacher and a work which now must certainly be consulted regarding any academic research. A welcome addition in today's confusing religious world.
