Summary: Questionable "pre-trib" notes, bad translation
Review: First, let me address the NKJV translation. I'm not usually one to blast a translation as junk, especially since I believe the best Bible is the one that people read. But the NKJV is a pretty skeevy translation, in my estimation. It is so hard to read that you may as well stick with the original KJV. Not only that, but it retains the absolutely worst elements of the KJV (a broken verse format) and combines it with the WORST elements of the NASB (capitalized He's for God). The NKJV is such a massively awkward translation, and whatever benefits it offers for being literal are lost when one realizes that it isn't a literal translation of an reliable New Testament text - it's based on exactly the same manuscripts as the KJV, even when scholarly opinion is universal that the KJV was wrong (e.g., the "book" of life rather than the "tree" of life in the closing verses of Revelation).

That said, Tim LaHaye seems bent on reviving Hal Lindsay's ideas, and that is a Very Bad Thing. I'm still waiting for one verse that even suggests a pre-trib rapture.

Review: I am a Baptist Minister and I have enjoyed this Bible greatly. I find the Book indepth and very helpful. The commentaries and charts have helped me to see and understand prophecy much easier than with other study Bibles. I use it daily while studying the word of God.

Summary: The cosmetics leave much to be desired!
Review: I first saw this Bible about a year ago. At that time they did not have one in the NKJV so I waited for one to be published. Just recently AMG released it in NKJV. I would have preferred a genuine cowhide version but my dealers could not find it in that style (why not? the KJV comes in cowhide) so I picked up the bonded leather version instead, big mistake!

I have never liked bonded leather, and this Bible is probably the worst bonded leather finish I have ever found. it feels more like Leatherflex or cardboard. The rear cover also had a crease in it as if it had been folded. The insides were no better. Many pages had severe creases in the middle of them. In addition the entire old testement had a slight crease in the lower corner of each page. I also found that the notes at the bottom of the left page of nearly the entire old testement had a very pronounced slant to them. Worst of all, the red letter text used in this edition is overbearing. Admittedly, as a Preacher I've never liked red letter but this red letter is blinding.

I contacted AMG by e-mail and shared this with them but received no response. That is a shame because the content of this study bible is outstanding. This (with better cosmetics) would be an excellent bible for someone who needs to teach prophecy or is studying it for themselves. Its simplicity is its greatest strength. When preaching or teaching is very important to make the text as plain as possible to the listener, the Lahaye Bible has managed to do this. The articles are great, the notes concise and the layout is very good. This would be a great bible in black letter with better cosmetics. I hope that my Bible was just a fluke, and others are coming out of the factory put together much better.

You may think I'm going overboard with my complaints about the cosmetics but when you lay down your money for a purchase, you should always expect quality merchandise. In this case I kept this one instead of sending it back because I could not wait to have another special ordered. Had they had another in stock I would have taken it back, just to see if the others had this same problem.

I give it a 0 for cosmetics and a 5 for content for an average of 3.

Summary: Excellant Resource to Understand God's Word
Review: I have been using this Bible for only a week but it has been a blessing. This Bible is an encyclopedia for students who want to understand some of the most difficult passages in scripture, the Old Testament Prophets as well as the Revelation of Jesus Christ. The notes are totally from a Dispensational Pre-Trib point of view with no apologies. As a dispensational study Bible I would recommend this over the Scofield or Ryrie, though both of those are more general study Bibles. Of the other Prophecy Study Bibles on the market this is by far the best. The only other specialty study Bible that can compare is Henry Morris' Defenders Study Bible which is unfortantly out of print according to Amazon. Dr.LaHaye and his co-editors have done a splended job. The articles are by many writers but all are well written and open the eyes of the reader to the depths of scripture. And Dr.LaHaye's charts are always a great visual tool for use in classes and with children. May this great Bible stay in print a long time. Maranatha!

Summary: Very Helpful Beginner's Prophecy Bible
Review: I have many study Bibles and this one is the one I take to church and pull out for general reading and devotionals. It is dedicated to the readers of the "Left Behind" series and for people who have become interested in Bible prophecy for the first time. The notes inside tie the prophetic themes together, and there is a comprehensive table of prophecies concerning Jesus in the back. Interspersed within the books are articles done by the prominent pre-tribulation scholars about topics such as "Heaven", "The Battle of Armageddon", "The Messianic Hope", "Israel in Tribulation", "God's Plan of Salvation", "The Rapture", "The Church Age", just to name a few. Studying prophecy helps you see how the Bible is all tied together, and how one part relates to another. In addition, there are center column references that allow you to explain and compare one verse with several others. The color pictures and charts are a bonus. This Bible will be around to edify believers long after the "Left Behind" series has been left behind. Buy it even if you're not interested in "Left Behind" series.

Summary: A GREAT RESOURCE
Review: I really think this is a great way to study the Bible. In fact if I had asked for a custom study guide this would be very close to what I would have designed. In the past I have bought various books and have had to have the study book and a copy of the Bible open together and go between the two books (felt like I was back in college writing a paper). This dual book set up does not "travel" well. The Prophecy Study Bible is a wonderful solution to this problem. It is an actual Bible (KJV) with Tim LaHaye's notes/interpretations on the bottom explaining the verse. In addition to this straight forward study approach, it has some good articles on various Biblical subjects written by others and includes a great intro to each book of the Bible that gives a summary and shows you the percentage of "prophecy" in that particular book (almost like short Cliff notes). I can not say enough about how easy this makes studying the Bible. Highly recommended.

Summary: A Bible with VERY good study aids
Review: This is a regular KJV of the Bible with lots of maps, editorals, and study aids thrown in. The extras here are a very nice help in understanding the subject of the seperate books. Please ignore the review from "Honestly, I didn't like it, December 12, 2000 Reviewer: A reader from Texas". Maybe the editorials in this book could have gone into more detail but if I want more info I'll get a book on that alone.

I have friends that don't believe there is a God. I plan on giving them a copy of this study Bible with little articles and editorals on the "sign of the times". I think this is a great Bible to give to new believers or disbelievers considering the recent happenings.
