Summary: a good early attempt at introduction
Review: ... Her insights & ideas on the glyphs are worth getting the book. This was one of the first books I bought on the Mayan calendar (which turned out to be the Arguelles Dreamspell system- not Mayan) The first thing I noticed was that her tables didn't match with many of the online calculators. Then I found some sites that explained the controversy over the date correlations. This book is easily understood & her tone is uplifting, but you should be aware that there is more than one "dating system" (and that Dreamspell is another system entirely) 6/21/2004 is 5 Oc in Dreamspell, but is 6 Men in the "True Count" 584283 correlation.

Summary: Calendar Misunderstanding
Review: This book is full of misunderstandings of the Maya calendar. None of the dates match up with any of the on-line computer systems or any of the respectible scholarlly work: i.e. J. Eic S. Thompson, Floyd Lounsburg, Dennis Tedlock, Linda Schele, David Freidel, Anthony Aveni, Edward Titch, Hans Hurtung, Barbara Tedlock. Don't buy it if you want to know your true birthday. You can find that out in "Time and the Highland Maya," or on line.

Summary: A good idea that failed
Review: This book is seriously flawed & inaccurate. A Mesoamerican Calendar Round is NOT 52 of "our" years, it's 52 Haab cycles. As a resource to find out what tzolkin date matches to a modern date, it is useless.
Her ideas on tones & glyphs are interesting; if you buy the book buy it for that only.
