Rating: Summary: Hope dies Hard Review: Having read all of Carol Anthony's previous works, I was anticipating this latest work with high expectations. Sadly, this latest collaboration just doesn't work for me. I can see bits of her billiant insight at work in each of the chapters, but then it is muddied and confused with H. Moog's unique interpretaions and you might as well read entrails for all the help it offers. Keep using her 3rd edition, it is still the best.
Rating: Summary: RELIEF IS JUST A BOOK AWAY! Review: How do I spell "relief?" I CHING : ORACLE OF THE COSMIC WAY. In all my years of trying to find out what's wrong with the world; what's wrong with this relationship; what's wrong with this job; what's wrong with this town, I also spent time and energy to find out what's wrong with me. Problem was that even when I understood things intellectually; even when I could put them into poems; even when I had performed the prescribed rituals, those same sad, sour problems stayed with me. I have felt as if I was under a curse. Sure enough. I have been living under the control of an treacherous, inner tyrant. My own ego. Even though I tried to find relief in scriptures, prayers, practices, shamanic rituals, affirmations, creative expression, bodywork, those activities never addressed the real cause of the suffering. I CHING: ORACLE OF THE COSMIC WAY shows me an entirely different perspective. Now I can sometimes sense the decaying presence of my own ego. I can almost feel the muscles of my trueself, the person I really am, in comparison with the flimsey costumes of the ego masquerading as me. Now sometimes, I can clearly tell the difference between the two. How can a book bring about such an awareness? First of all, I CHING;ORACLE OF THE COSMIC WAY is not a book. Yeah, it looks like one and you DO read it. But it's really a kind of intimacy with one's own Wisdom, the Sage, a presence that the ego cannot manipulate and colonize. The Sage answers clearly when I throw the Three Coins, usually in the written Hexagrams, and sometimes in the "stillest, smallest Voice" I ever heard. If I don't understand, I just ask for clarification and throw the coins until I do. The Appendix provides remarkably clear definitions and amazingly effective processes for working with the Sage. Three things are delightful about working with this version of the I CHING: (1) It has surgical precision that cuts straight to deep, deep difficulties. Right to the marrow. And yet (2) the process is kind and gentle, and (3) I feel relieved and satisfied with the results. So how is this accomplished? This book teaches how to say NO! and how to say YES! to one's own life in such a way that the ego is diminished and the trueself is nourished. This book also teaches that the commonsense we all enjoyed as young children is really who we are and what we have to work with. Right now as adults. My copy of I CHING:ORACLE OF THE COSMIC WAY has become my favorite belonging. It is such a relief to experience, once again, that life is as wonder-full as I thought it was, way back before preschool. This is especially helpful during current national and world events. I invite you to buy this book and spend time with the Sage. Your ego won't like it, but you will.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Indepth Interpretation Review: I have read many excellent interpretations of the I Ching by a variety of authors, including other books by Carol Anthony. This latest work, however, is in a league by itself. It is extremely thorough and thought provoking. A fabulous piece of work.
Rating: Summary: Looking for Tao, look no further. Review: In many ways, the most remarkable wonder of my life is opening radically, synchronously, and integrally with this "book," I Ching: The Oracle of the Cosmic Way. In other ways, too, Carol Anthony and Hanna Moog's et Al complement is the spring about which many many recurring issues can come to draw appropriate clarity, that have constituted or withered, or that have "been settled" otherwise around the world and time, especially in health, psychology, physics, philosophy, history, political theory, sociology, linguistics, and theontocosmology (and particularly, "I Ching studies"). Central is the still rather peculiarly novel, evolving fact that one's own relationship with the sundrious invisible consciousness of the cosmos, which has accompanied, ahawed, and been misunderstood throughout history and truth, herein with these intimately alive, sensitive, understanding, and enduring passageways of the oracle--and unlike anything else that I have found, anywhere in word or image--finds its way simply and concisely throughout the inner truth of any situation; well beyond all seems and depths, ideas and arts, sciences and therapies, beliefs and systems; occasional; attractive; deliberate; corrective; methodically; to in with one's very heart, pulse, and rhythm; returning one's true self to, discovering, freeing, repsycheling, feeling nature; discerning and expressing its unique way, originally, as one's body and intuition; with other, limits and harmonics, transformative life, love and gifts; while going on, enjoying and equating, in this relatively new age of humanity and "the arts and sciences," here on Earth, with all: Help is on the way. Simply, no comparison; basic; all in all, a cosmos volume. Welcome.
Rating: Summary: Channeling the I Ching Review: It's difficult to rate this book fairly. On the one hand it is well-written, well-organized, literate -- a handsome read. For that it deserves a sure two stars. On the other hand it is such a radical departure even from the most progressive realizations of I Ching (Stephen Karcher) that I have to withhold two stars. However, in the event that readers find the authors' New Age interpretation illuminating and valid, and so as not to allow my bias to slant my rating, I give it an additional star -- three, total. There is much about this book that I find problematic, not the least of which is the often stated but rarely challenged viewpoint that illness, "misfortune," is the result of faulty assumptions. I can understand, appreciate, and to some extent accept that diseased thinking predisposes one to (some) illnesses. But the authors do not nuance this point, making it seem that if we were in right relation to Cosmic Harmonies we would be disease-free. A corollary to this point is that we create our fate by our thought, which the authors also infer. I do not believe I Ching either implies or necessarily supports such a viewpoint. But the authors make it clear that their understanding of I Ching comes directly from Heaven -- "the Sage" by their reckoning -- and is not therefore beholden to traditional canons of interpretation. If you accept their version of continuing revelation you might make room for their interpretation which has a certain resemblance to A Course in Miracles. I, for one, did not find their point of view helpful, but others of you might.
Rating: Summary: Lacks objectivity... Review: Previous experience using another of Carol Anthony's I Ching commentaries raised my expectations for this much-expanded volume. The reality was disappointing, at best. The commentary is rife with authorial bias, coloring the commentary to a degree frustrating to one accustomed to the liberty of application of a more neutral approach.
Rating: Summary: An innovative method of accessing the wisdom of the Sage Review: The collaborative effort of I Ching experts and specialists Carol K. Anthony and Hanna Moog, I Ching: The Oracle Of The Cosmic Way is a fascinating new version and interpretation of this classic Chinese text and divination tool. An innovative method of accessing the wisdom of the Sage as revealed through the I Ching is presented, along with an extensive elaboration of the simplest lines of the I Ching to help make this ancient resource more familiar to non-specialist general readers of all backgrounds. I Ching: The Oracle Of The Cosmic Way is an enthusiastically recommended addition to any personal, professional, academic, or community library Metaphysical Studies collection.
Rating: Summary: Cosmologically Unique Review: The reviewers who talk of bias and lack of objectivity have obviously not got to the crux of the reason why this is the only I Ching in English on the planet worthy of serious use. The previous edition of A Guide to the I Ching - went 'inside' - a real first - but was tainted (in my Buddistic mind only) with issues of 'God'. Weather you are a Republican (G old O il and D rugs) or a Galactic Federation Agent (see tortuga dot com) (G alactic O rdering Dynamic) makes little different to fact that GOD as a concept falls down in a wide variety of ways (not least the fact that (the misunderstanding of...) - 'God', 'Jehova' and 'Allah' are famous for starting wars.
The Cosmic Oracle - is what it says it is. It allows one to unpick the 'ego' - a complex of phrases and programs that impact upon ones pyche in profound and subtle ways - which in turn leads to 'Fates' and a parallel reality of group and individual ego conciousness.
If you are serious about surfing with the Cosmic Groovology Policy - this is the ONLY copy of the I Ching in English worth using. Full Stop.
There is a minor CONSTRUCTIVE critisism I would like to offer - in that the methodology for building hexagrams given in the book is not the one that duplicates the probability of the Yarrow stalk method. (put simply get 3 blue beads - moving yin, 9 red beads - moving yang, 15 orange beads, static yang and 21 green beads - static yin) on a string - pick one put it back pick five more - and build the hexagram from the bottom up).
The caveat of not building a second hexagram is in my view to be followed.
Also even though the Invisible 'HELPERS' might be better named 'SUPPORTERS' (give ('help') a man a fish - feed him for a day - TEACH ('SUPPORT') a man to fish - feed him for the rest of his life) - it is a minor point - as I have started taking pictures with my digital camera of glowing light balls - and they sometimes appear when I ask them to - so the Invisible 'helpers' - are actually there.
Acknowledgements are due to Carol and Hanna for their timely and absolutely DESPERATELY needed contribution to our species.
PS If you have not yet bought 'Love and Inner Connection' - you are most definately MISSING out!
Rating: Summary: The Next Evolution of the I Ching Review: Welcome to the next evolution of the I Ching, now called The Oracle of the Cosmic Way. This work is the product of some five years of research and discovery on the part of the authors, Carol Anthony and Hanna Moog. For anyone who loves the I Ching and has learned from it or trusted its advice, this book will be extremely valuable. It is, in short, perhaps the most important contribution to I Ching literature since Wilhelm's famous translation of 1923, because it shows, in extraordinary detail, how a Cosmic understanding of the hexagrams and lines of the I Ching can be achieved by the individual seeker, in relation to the issues and questions of his own life, and all this in the overall context of developing a personal relationship with the Sage, or Cosmic teaching voice, that speaks through the I Ching. This book comes highly recommended: it is researched and written by two total professionals, under the guidance of the Cosmic voice that speaks to each of us through the oracle. It will provide enrichment and deep learning for everyone who approaches it in an attitude of sincerity and openness, and continue to offer the gifts of insight and guidance for many, many years to come. Don't hesitate to obtain a copy of this new and revolutionary approach to the I Ching and the Cosmic Way.
