Rating: Summary: ...And the truth shall make you free. Review: "The Prophet of Doom" presents the life of Islam's founder arranged in the chronological order and historical context as presented by its own scriptures, nothing more. The only evil the author can be found guilty of is forcing the reader to wade through extensive quotations (about fifty percent of this tome's text) from the Qur'an, Hadith, Sira, etc. This is not politically-correct, light reading. The author's occasional humor and sarcasm were the only things that allowed me to plow through this perilous volume to its end.
The one point this book makes abundantly clear is that the Islamic terrorists of today are *not* the ones who are distorting Islam; they are simply following the teachings and example of their prophet, Muhammad. Any modern Muslim who claims that "Jihad" is only a personal spiritual struggle or a defensive war is either a religious existentialist or woefully ignorant of what his own scriptures say--let alone, the witness of history. If Craig Winn is a liar and has quoted Islamic sources out of context, as so many of the negative reviews for this book claim, then simply refute him from these sources; it is as simple as that.
The author has a support website for this book at www.prophetofdoom.net where he answers the criticisms raised here as well as many others. Even the most superficial examination of his website makes it abundantly clear that he did not write this book to make money.
I admonish every Muslim to search your own scriptures and discover for yourself whether or not this book speaks the truth. Do not let others think for you--think for yourself. Many Christians and Jews would do well to heed the same advice, by the way.
Yehshua (Jesus) said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the father, but through me." (John 14:6) He also said, "If you abide in my word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32) It is my sincere prayer that every Muslim will learn who really is "the truth," and experience the freedom from the bondage of sin that the true Creator of the universe can give you.
[Edit, Jan 27, 2005: By the way, I am probably one of the few reviewers here who actually *read* the book!]
Rating: Summary: Pure Hat Book. Review: ----As usual, Islam is being attacked again. This book is full of lies, out of context interpretations and unauthenticated scriptures. Use this book for debating and you'll be defeated in no time. Those reviewers who hate Islam so much, what Islam have ever done to you????!!!! You can't judge Islam according to the Muslims as you can't judge Christianity according to the Christians actions today. Islam became the most misunderstood religion in the world because of books such this one and people like Craig Winn. Islam has been high jacked by terrorists and politicians and is being attacked from every direction by people with political agendas and personal interests. Islam's teachings are "ALL" in the Quran, anything else is man made, use your mind and be fair. And to those who claim that they use to be Muslims, honestly, I've never seen a person that learned about Islam and went back again. Although Islam have been under continues attack from its enemies, using all their might, power and money to distort and misrepresent it, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world and that's alone should be a sign to whoever have any doubt about this great religion. Islam liberates the mind and soul and guarantees success in the life and the hereafter. May God guide us all to the truth. ----
Rating: Summary: This book provides CONTEXT and CHRONOLOGY Review: All we can know about Islam, Muhammad, and Allah is what Islam's scriptures -- the Qur'an, the Sira, and Hadith collections -- tell us. The Qur'an itself is a chaotic assemblage, lacking both context and chronology, so it is fully dependent upon these other sources. By rearranging the Qur'an in the order it was "revealed," and then by placing its verses into the context of Muhammad's life as presented in the Sira and Hadith, "Prophet Of Doom" exposes what Muhammad had to say about himself, his ambition, religion, and god. The truth is not only shocking, it's stunningly relevant to our time. Islam's apologists claim many things that are proven to be false when one comes to understand Muhammad and his dogma: that "we all worship the same God" when in fact the God of the Bible (Yahweh) and the god of Islam (Allah) are opposites; that "Islam is a tolerant religion" when instead there are a hundred vicious and hateful verses for every "nice" one; that "Islam is a peaceful religion" when in reality it is preoccupied with fighting and war, ordering Muslims to wipe non-Muslims out to the last; that Muhammad was "the best example" and "a great man of exalted character and tremendous morality" when his own scriptures reveal that he was a pedophile, a slave trader, a rapist, a murderer, a pirate, and a very active and ruthless terrorist. "Prophet Of Doom" confronts the reader with absolute proof that today's terrorists are following the example of their prophet, obeying Allah's orders, and using the Islamic scriptures as their handbook. Members of al-Qaeda, for example, haven't corrupted their religion; Islam has corrupted them. "Prophet Of Doom" reveals that Allah, the god of Islam, is little more than a reflection of Muhammad, providing "inspiration" to satisfy the "prophet's" lust for power, sex and wealth. While that might sound outlandish, the evidence is overwhelming. "Prophet Of Doom" also includes a chilling comparison between the words of Muhammad and the words of Hitler, between the Islamic scriptures and Mein Kampf. To ignore the warnings given in "Prophet Of Doom" is to allow history to repeat itself. The critics of the book who visited its official website have heatedly charged that the author "took verses out of context to satisfy his agenda." Yet these accusations are without merit because "Prophet Of Doom" presents every important Islamic scripture from the Qur'an, Sira, and Hadith collections chronologically and within its full context of place, people, circumstance, and time. The author's only agenda is that he cares for Muslims enough to tell them the truth, and for non-Muslims to keep them from losing everything to Islam. "Prophet Of Doom" does not rely on opinion, but rests solely upon the original and lone sources that comprise Islam-its own scriptures. "Prophet Of Doom" does not condemn Islam. Islam condemns itself. This may be one of the most important books you'll ever read. (YWG)
Rating: Summary: Please... Review: I have studied world religion for over 25 years. I have to agree with Don. Most of those who are writing reviews have not read this book, have not read the whole Koran and or any history.
The book, the facts and history are all real. Not even most Muslims know their own; written words, their religion or the history.
You also need to keep in mind evil likes to hide and wait. If you are one of those people who think Nazism was wiped out in WWII, and that the Koran is a book about God's love, then this book is not for you.
Rating: Summary: holly molly Review: I think this book is really funny. It brigs up a hot subject
which is definitely cool. But I definitely think that Mr. Craig Winn didn't really win this battle.
i think that he is misinformed about Islamic culture if not totally ignorant about it, otherwise he should have known that they were some heavy weight philosophers and scientists among these people like (just to remind you) : avicenes (ibn sina), averoeds (ibn rochd), mimoneds(ibn maimun)... those guys draw the major lines of modern science and literature. they invented the numbers we are writing with (1 2 3 4... if u don't believe seek the truth) every well educated person will tell you that these guys were at least well positioned than our author to attack a whole ideology with 0 evidence, narrow sentences and rage (really funny).
i hope the authors intention was to bring the subject to criticism in a funny way. if not he should really consider a dropping by a psy. Maybe a vacation should do it, otherwise u should really consider suicide.
and please Craig, next time just take your time before acting.
dont make a fool of us man. just write about dogs instead of dogma...
trust me guys DO NOT READ THE QURAN unless you are ready to become Muslim. because this 'book' is DANGEROUS.
I explain : if you read it and understand it, it will be more difficult for your brain to reject it than to accept it.
and ESPECIALLY if you have a SIENTIFIC methodic mind. the more educated you are the more vulnerable you will be.
"His readiness to undergo persecutions for his beliefs, the high moral
character of the men who believed in him and looked up to him as leader, and
the greatness of his ultimate achievement - all argue his fundamental
integrity. To suppose Muhammad an impostor raises more problems than it
solves. Moreover, none of the great figures of history is so poorly
appreciated in the West as Muhammad."

Rating: Summary: Book of authentic lies !!!! Review: If you really want to waste your time and money on rubbish information about Islam just buy this book. It is by a writer never knew anything about Islam before 9/11, so you'll have a very good shallow opinion about Islam from a flat mind living in Cucoland !! I'm so shocked to see that [...]
Rating: Summary: This malicious work belongs in the fiction section Review: In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
My impression upon reading this book is that Craig Winn is not just ignorant, but malicious since he actively distorted the words of the hadith and Qur'an onto his fiction to deceitfully suit his predetermined mindset about Islam.
The examples of such are too numerous to mention here - in fact his maliciously manufactured book is laden with such alterations - but I'll choose a few some teenagers can point out. Regarding Prophet Muhammad being shown his future wife in a Holy Dream - Revelations from God (Allah) sometimes came to Prophets in the form of dreams, as such dreams were one-46th part of prophethood - this Winn character took matters into his own sordid hands and described the holy message as a "sexual fantasy."
Regarding Allah's verse (Chapter 2: 191) that includes "slay them wherever you find them," Winn conveniently leaves out the previous verse and the continuation of the verse he quoted.
(Chapter 2: 190)
"Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities. Lo! Allah loveth not aggressors."
(Chapter 2: 191)
"And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. And fight not with them at the Inviolable Place of Worship until they first attack you there, but if they attack you (there) then slay them. Such is the reward of disbelievers."
Allah clearly commands mankind not to begin hostilities, for Allah "loveth not aggressors." No person with intellict and free from predetermined bias or maliciousness can mistake this. Yet, Winn distorted this command by taking one part of a verse and leaving it there in isolation for the purpose of deceiving people.
Read on:
(Chapter 2, 192)
"But if they desist, then lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."
(Chapter 2, 193)
"And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah. But if they desist, then let there be no hostility except against wrong-doers."
Allah is clearly commanding mankind to cease fighting if no longer oppressed, for He is Forgiving and Merciful (implying we should forgive and show mercy).
Just to show you how perfect Allah's Law is, even in times of war man is prohibited from harming non-combatants, the elderly, children, women, and religious leaders who are not in battle. In addition, man is prohibited from damaging the earth, the trees, the grass, and from polluting water, as well as from punishing with fire, because only He can punish with fire.
For example, on September 11, 2001, the elderly were harmed, children were harmed, women were harmed, and religious leaders may have been present and harmed. Clearly, the earth was damaged, trees were destroyed, and most definitely people died as a result of fire.
Furthermore, those people in the towers and planes were not waging war against or oppressing Muslims. This makes it abundantly clear the actions of September 11 were not actions approved by Allah, may He be Glorified.
Yet, Winn interviews Al-Qaeda members about Islam, and uses answers from them to support his distortions. That would be like someone interviewing Adolph Hitler - a Christian - and purporting his philosophy was that of Christians. It's common sense (101), of which Winn appears to have none.
Because of such distortions, I am convinced Winn is not just ignorant but rather malicious for he can not possibly have locked in on such a specific part of a verse yet not have seen the words immediately before it and immediately after it. This act beyond the shadow of a doubt reveals his actions as that of someone intent on altering the truth.
If Craig Winn has no malevolent activity to hide, he would accept a challenge to a debate, during which any Imam will expose his work for the fraud that it is with truth, wisdom, and beautiful speech.
Winn desrves no stars, but there is no such cateopry, so I am forced to give him one just so I can warn those people throughout ther world, to whom Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent as a Messanger, Prophet and Warner.
Incidentally, Winn trying to change the words of the ahadith and the Qur'an is the same practice that heedless people who received earlier revelations engaged in, for the purpose of deceiving people into the miserliness he's mired in.
Even Winn's reviewer on Amazon.com, Shawn Carkonen, stated Winn "selectively quotes from the Qur'an, various Islamic texts, and the biography of Muhammad" and finished with the following unflattering portrait of Winn: "Rather than educate readers about the Islamic faith, the book's sole purpose seems to be to shock and inflame readers---and in that regard it succeeds." (Look it up! Look everything up! Don't take any human's word regarding the word of God. Go to the source itself - the Qura'n, the only remaining unadultered divine revelation.)
Rating: Summary: Too much hate over substance Review: LOL, This book is joke. If you want to learn about is Islam learn from an educated Muslim. If you want to learn about Jews ask a educated Rabbi. You don't try to learn about black people via the KKK. This is just pure hate and rage. If try to look for something negative in anything you will find it. This book does a great job in making you mad and I'd think if a Muslim read it probably a lot closer to rage. The author even defiles the name Allah. Why the word Allah means "THE God". Jesus in his native tongue (Aramaic) says "Alloh". There are Arabic Bibles that say that. There where Bibles in the early 60's that said Allah instead of God or the Holy Father. This shows the level of education this man has. This book is good for someone who generally is looking to hate something or someone. Claiming that these people simply hate us because we are "free" and "liberal" is wrong. To hate is stupid to understand is key! Bernard Lewis' (very, very smart) book does that it explains why they don't like us (Americans). This link shows how smart this guy is http://www.princeton.edu/~nes/profiles/Lewis.htm
Why did they attack the US and not somewhere in Europe, where they are much more liberal. Gay marriage, loose drug laws and such. Compared to them we are very conservative. This book will help in creating an enemy for you if you're looking for one. As far as truth and understand there is very little if any in this book. A majority of the surface information is true but interpretation is that of Osama Bin Ladin style. Great for understand that kind of mentality and that kind of people.
Also the reviewers on the book seem interesting. Some claim it's GREAT!!! I'm guessing that Don is some kind of Bible thumper but like to help produce hate. I would think you of all people should be an example to these people and help to teach peace and tolerance. But the people against the book I think might not have read it but then again would you want to read a book that says (God forgive me) Jesus raped, murdered and pillaged? I'm pretty sure there books like that out there, sad to say. Wasting paper and ink on such garbage. In the end the guy is not to well educated but does have some facts but without any depth or knowledge. If you're a hate preacher then go for this book. Was (still am) thinking of converting. This book just helped to see what people with little knowledge and a lot of hate can do. Like the terrorist that attacked us...
Rating: Summary: Koran made understandable Review: Mr. Winn does what Islamic scholars through the ages have fought against - he has translated the Koran into modern English and has, maybe even more importantly, made it chronological. From the mishmash of verses and suras, he has laid out the true story of Islam as indicated by the Hadiths. What emerges is not flattering to Mohammed the "prophet of Allah". Fairy tales and fables, old wives tales and garbled texts stolen from the Jewish Torah and Talmud, the Koran condones and, in some cases, commands, looting, rape, murder, pederasty, and anti-semitism. These are not his own opinions - this is what is written in these "holy" books, without the filter of Islamic clerics. Muslims in the Western World may scream "hatred" and "Islamaphobe", but Mr. Winn has not written this book out of hate, but out of love for the people who are so imprisoned by the hateful, murderous religion of Islam.
Rating: Summary: cheap Review: the book is one of the worst unprofessional, untalanted works i have ever read. No hard facts, only generla views of uneducated people. Facts are right, interpretation is wrong. Advise to the author, u would be better off az a pizza delivery boy, leave books for real writers.
