Rating: Summary: Possibly the most incendiary book ever written Review: "Might is Right - the Survival of the Fittest", by Ragnar Redbeard, is a case for Social Darwinism. It is not a philosophical treatise in the strict sense, but more of a "manifesto" for racism, sexism, the worship of strength and the virtues of war, such as unbridled rapine, extreme unscrupulousness, joy in risk and contempt of danger. The author makes it clear that he is a foe to weakness, servility, Christianity and "turning the other cheek." Impassioned, and at times, quite inspiring, it is characterised by its enamelled nineteenth century prose, its rhetorical splendours and thunderous declamations. Redbeard's message -- that "you can go further with a handful of might than a bagful of right" -- is repeated with very little variation throughout his treatise, to the effect of monotony. Most of his precepts are fairly commonsensical, or else mined from already extant literature. When he raves, however, Redbeard is truly original. His utterances, in a large measure, contain no sense at all, not even nonsense. At times, the style comes close to self-mockery and the arguments are riddled with contradictions. He makes it very plain that he is opposed to woman's emancipation: - "Woe unto the Race if ever these lovable creatures should break loose from mastership, and become the rulers or equals of Man." It is this section in particular, that shows Redbeard at his silliest and most self-contradictory. At one point, he declares: "It has been said of Mahomet that he said that 'Woman hath no soul'." Redbeard concurs enthusiastically with this view, only to add, about two lines later: - "It is a proven fact that woman has no soul (and neither has man, for that matter) but in woman's case, one has greater grounds for doubting the existence of her soul even less." What kind of brain-shattered nonsense is this? Most of the work is childish, and filled with arguments that range far beyond the area of rational examination or refutation. For a more coherent and more logical presentation of similar views, I would recommend Max Stirner's "The Ego and Its Own" -- a testament of philosophical anarchism.
Rating: Summary: A quintessential course in social darwinism? Review: After hearing alot about this book I finally decided to read it. From what I can surmise "Might is Right" is actually a PARODY (i.e. black humor) I don't think it was meant to be taken literally at all. I think it is philosophical-egoism and actually renders its own assertions as contradictory. For example, on one page Mr. Redbeard declares women to be soft and timid, then in the very next page women have committed acts of bravery that would rival a man of steel! Mr. Redbeard also has a bizarre interptation of Nature. He thinks of it as an ABSOLUTE. Nature or natural order is mental construct. What is natural for me may not be natural for you. He also seems to be a racist favoring the Anglo-Saxon as the most evolved. If a woman or a non-white possess the Force(right of might) then why would the same rules not apply to him/her? This book reminds me of the Judeo/Christain Bible and all its contradictions.
Rating: Summary: A good read though a little extreamist. Review: I am an open minded individual, and let me be the first to say that Might is Right will definetly change the way you think! It addresses a lot of modern concerns from a very real, hard truth, and esoteric point of veiw. This is a no frills collections of essays that really hit home with some people. It is written in a very opinionated fanatical manner, you'll find it uncensored, and far from politically correct. If your easily offended this book is not for you! Any unembarised man of thought will find it worth owning, but read with caution and take all you read with a grain of salt.
Rating: Summary: Great Concepts Review: Not only does the book tell it how it was but tells it how it should be. He is trying to encourage people to act on what he says and not be afraid to stand on there own two feet and think on there own. This is one of the best books i have read and will keep it forever.
Rating: Summary: Might is Right! Review: Rumored to be ghostwritten by the great Jack London, (it probably wasn't) plaigarized from word for word by the Jewish con man Anton Lavey in various parts of his "Satanic Bible", written in a way that is basicly a book length rant, Might is Right ranks as what is probably my favorite "philosophy" book.
Even though in a passage or two Redbeard hails Thor as a God to be admired and emulated this book more or less takes an athiestic stance, but other than the athieism I can agree with most of what is in Might is Right, especially the rants about the uselessness and wretchedness of the masses of people who through their cowardice and stupidity really don't deserve anything better than the mental and physical slavery that their lives are. Good stuff on the utter insanity of the Christian idea of loving ones enemies and turning the other cheek, as well as accepting a deity outside your own culture as your own. Some of the "Social Darwinism" ideas in MiR go a little overboard but for the most part I think they are correct, because after all, whether you like it or not, Might is Right.
Rating: Summary: This is NOT the version you want Review: There is a different version with an introduction by Anton laVey, trust me, spare yourself the white supremacist's introduction and get the other one. Amazon doesnt sell it, and it is hard to find, but I know you can get it from the EMPORIUM at www.personalsatan.com I just ordered this garbage and then AFTER realized it was by 14 word press, which is a white supremesist propaganda front. So spare yourself the agony and PASS. Wonderful book though.
Rating: Summary: changed my life for the better... Review: This book is an excellent, captivating read. There is no reason that an intelligent & open mind cannot gleam so great information from this book even if they do not agree with everything. There are a lot of racial viewpoints expressed in this book, but it is not so much hatred of non-nordics but pride of in nordic race and history. There is so much to be learned, it has literally changed my waltanschauung (worldview) and has helped and will continue to help me achieve the very goals that I am so willing and ready to accomplish now. All the reviews are helpful given so far. It really does feel as if this is a holy book. BUY IT NOW!
Rating: Summary: This is NOT the version you want Review: [...] Unlike what the book teaches....It was BRUTALLY honest, and I wouldn't expect a gung ho christian to get cozy with it. A must read for all pagans. It is taken from a DEEPLY rooted NATURAL standpoint and forms all it's poetry from this. Not a light read at all. You can expect to reread many pages to get the full effect. Then after you put it down, a few months down the road may give you more experience and you'll pick it up again to learn more. You can't say the material is dated either. I related to it in my younger days and can still relate to it now. [...] Follow your blood, it can't steer you wrong.
