Summary: Karma Manual: 9 Days to Change Your Life
Review: Definitely THE most comprehensive guide to Karma for the Western mind. Dr. Jonn Mumford does a wonderful job presenting a great many aspects of Karma and how it APPLIES to your life. Each chapter is very easy to understand and includes great little stories that help you fully grasp how each aspect of Karma works. The exercises at the end of each chapter provide a very powerful tool for critical self analysis, a must for preparation for the "Karma Workout", The Nine Day Karma Clearing Program. This program is the most powerful practical approach to changing your life I have seen. It is definitely a challenge, but Dr. Jonn Mumford provides the way to achieve it. I can't wait to start clearing my Karma!

Summary: Use force, Luke!
Review: Dr Mumford has done it again! His eloquent and entertaining way of guiding us through our own labyrinth of fears and out into the bright light of understanding is easily comprehensible to all. Karma is like a force - we unwittingly 'force' others to treat us a certain way. To step out of that pattern and become aware is a great achievement. The word karma is seen more as a past tense noun (although it is a verb), but seen from the Christian viewpoint, it is expressed as "It is done unto you as you believe", and "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" - this is present and future tense, which is how we should see karma. Karma is something we have brought with us to this moment, and it is our decision, with each breath, what we take to the next moment, or breath. Breathe light into your energy flow - use the Karma Manual to deliver your love.

Summary: very informative, and light hearted
Review: I found this book to give a good explanation, without ANY new age babble, and providing good perspective, on Karma. I do not feel that this is a book that anyone can just pick up, read, do the exercises, and BLAM your Karma Free, no, it doesn't work that way. But I do feel that in working with this book patiently, and with a light attitude, any begginer, who hasn't gone in from to much of a skeptic/nihalistic view, can notice benifits. I have not done the 9 day program, but the first few exercises are helping to understand my relationship with Karma. Even the author state that he has only completed the program, succesfully, a few number of times, so if you find it hard to be succesful, keep trying

Summary: Like all Mumford's books, it's fun.
Review: In December 1980 when mortally wounded ex-beatle John Lennon was wheeled into the emergency room in NYC he was left alone for a few seconds on his blood-soaked gurney. Years earlier Lennon had been connected with the Krishna movement and had even had Indian guru Srila Prabhupada living under his roof. It is their belief that whoever hears the Krishna mantra at the time of death is immediately transferred to a timeless heaven.

Also in the emergency room was a young man who was a lay follower of Krishna. To his horror he recognized the bloody, gasping figure as Lennon. And he was suddenly ALONE with the dying man.

Instantly he went to the semi-conscious Lennon and whispered the Krishna mantra in his ear.

This true but little known incident poses the question: coincidence or "karma"? The word karma has become as western as the term "sports car," but what, exactly, does it mean? Dr. Jonn Mumford is in a position that makes him particularly well equipped to answer and does so in his delightful book, Karma Manual, 9 Days to Change Your Life.

Mumford demystifies karma, showing it to be, not superstition, but a sophisticated type of cause and effect. He has been described as a "born teacher" and lives up to that title by drawing the reader charmingly along with entertaining modern parables and fascinating conundrums that painlessly ease the reader toward insight. Like all mumford's books, it's fun. The book ends with a carefully devised 9 day program to improve one's karma, a program that can be done at home without recourse to expensive retreats or exotic locales.

As the great sufi sage Rumi once wrote: "Your stream of water may look clean, but there's unstirred matter at the bottom, Your sheikh (spiritual teacher) can dig a side channel, that will drain that waste off."

Mumford will dig the side channel, if you will let him.

Summary: Fantastic
Review: This book has truly helped me to change my life for the better (and it wasn't too bad to begin with!)....As a skeptic and a Western thinker, I found this book appealing and not too "new age-y", which helped me to understand and appreciate it more. I absolutely love the organized layout of the book. Each chapter teaches a short lesson, then an exercise following the lesson helps you to process what you've learned. The exercises taught me so much about myself and the way I think. The last chapter of the book outlines a "Karma Clearing Program". For 9 days, you practice certain behaviors, such as not verbally expressing dissatisfaction, not criticizing anyone, paying special attention to your thoughts and feelings and waking an hour earlier to meditate and engage in physical activity, among others. The author lays out how to perform each behavior, and what the specific benefits are of each. After reading the book and going through the short program (which I did not do perfectly), I am more relaxed, more focused, sleep better, and am more conscious of what comes out of my mouth. This is a book I will have to buy for myself again and again...my relatively new copy is already worn out!
