Rating: Summary: walk in Thorn's garden... Review: as a Feri initiate, I didn't find much in the book that I wasn't already familiar with, but I did find interesting exercises and approaches to the same basic ideas....like hearing someone talk about their impressions of a garden I am also fond of :) Definitely a book that needs a place on your bookshelf.
Rating: Summary: Not your typical Witchcraft book thank the Gods! Review: Evolutionary, revolutionary, and certainly not anything you would find in a Llewellyn book. Initiated into the Anderson Feri and Reclaiming traditions priestess T Thorn Coyle is a modern witch and teacher of witchcraft.
T Thorn Coyle goes beyond your basic 101 magick book and gives her readers tools they can use to transform and revolutionize their lives. The idea that our humanity is where our magic lies has opened up avenues for myself that have made my vision of a life spent where every minute is spent in the sacred a reality. Her book can be ordered at www.powells.com or ask your
independent bookseller to stock it.
Rating: Summary: Unique, relevant, and way beyond Witchcraft 101 Review: First, a word about what this book is thankfully not. Although it has plenty of information and exercises that will be useful to beginners, it is not an introductory book on witchcraft. The program of training presented here is a challenging one, with a serious focus on personal growth and development. Those who are accustomed to the relatively shallow, sweetness-and-light approach of New Age personal development books will find themselves in much deeper waters here.
Secondly, this book is not yet another reframing of common-knowledge neopagan models and techniques. Coyle is working out of a unique pagan tradition, one that has its own specific spiritual technology and models of approaching magick. Although practitioners of other traditions are sure to find resonances with their systems, tools such as the Iron Pentacle are unique to the Feri and Reclaiming traditions. More importantly, however, these tools make sense outside a Feri context, and practitioners of other paths will find them to be important additions to their magickal repetoires. No one in Western society is free of the cultural baggage that hangs on Sex, Pride, Self, Power, or Passion, and Coyle provides meditations and exercises that effectively break down the personal and cultural barriers that keep these important energies bound.
Finally, a few words about what _Evolutionary Witchcraft_ is. EW is a well-written, down-to-earth, extremely coherent book on Feri witchcraft that is yet designed to be accessible to practitioners of any magickal path. It is packed with practical exercises without entirely ignoring theory, and it structures its training program within a unique and exciting Feri aesthetic. As a former student of Victor and Cora Anderson, the poetic and eclectic founders of the Feri tradition, Thorn Coyle gives us her own evolutionary, socially-aware twist on the Feri line while remaining close to the richness of the source.
Rating: Summary: Don't Judge a Book or a Human by their Cover Review: I came across this book last year. In reading though it I was impressed with it's fresh insights and a few things I had discovered on my own without any training or tradition.
Then I turned to the back cover and was put off by the authors picture. So I didn't buy the book. The image of the author was out of balance in my judgement with the love and light content within the book itself.
Months passed, and some of the insights of the book stayed with me. One evening during a prayerful meditation the Crone aspect of the Goddess made an appearance and...well...scared me <laugh>, and then accused me of being disriminatory based on appearances, age, and things. She was right and I gave up my judgement of others based on their appearances. Time passed.
I came across Ms. Coyle's book again a few weeks ago, sat down read through it, turned to the back with new eyes, said hello and purchased the book.
I really like the context of body movement as part of working with energy. I hope she comes out with a DVD to go along with the book. (Hint).
If you are looking to connect with Divine energies and transform how you view the world this is a unique book that is very fresh and different on the topic of magic and working with energies. Ms. Coyle has wisdom and insight beyond her years and unique appearance(s).
Within the book is a caring and love that infuses the information with a power to reach your heart and sense of knowing. It is very special. It is obvious to me that the Divine has inspired this work.
If your reading the reviews, your pondering this book. It's in hard cover which means it won't wear out. For me, this is a worthy addition to my home library, if my library were destroyed or stolen, this is a book I would repurchase to always have available.
Thank you T. Thorn Coyle for pouring your heart into this work.
Buy the book, support this author and teacher who's insights and work inspires the heart and spirit.

Rating: Summary: Lush, Beautiful, Fully Human and Wholly Divine Review: T. Thorn Coyle's _Evolutionary Witchcraft_is an intense, beautiful, devoted work that is designed for a practcioner who is ready to go further and work harder. I've been working with the book and I am impressed by the depth of knowledge and wisdom therin.
Part of what makes the text so impressive is Ms. Coyle's empathic relationship with many facets of the divine, drawing from such rich sources as Sufism, Celtic Mythology, Reclaiming and the Catholic Worker tradition to illuminate the basics of Feri tradition, a lush, vibrant tapestry of magic.
This is a disciplined book; Ms. Coyle's work demands much of the reader, yet yields much in return. I personally adore this emphasis on discipline;the work makes it worthwhile. Ms. Coyle also emphasizes the role of the body in prayer and magic and that alone is well worth the price. The writing is also clear, direct and evocative and is an amazing trove of riches.
However, the real treasures are the ones that this tradition opens the seeker to; Ms. Coyle's _Evolutionary Witchcraft_ includes the idea that we are constantly evolving and becoming more human. The witch hirself is the spell--and that is radical.
Read it and re-enchant the world.
Rating: Summary: revolutionary Review: This beautiful book is truly life changing. To follow the practices given in the book demands commitment and discipline but the rewards are amazing. I read the book through once as the author suggested and then went back and started working with each chapter. This work is demanding but if you are committed to evolving, to becoming fully human, to finding your true divine self-this book provides you with the tools you need to do so. It is also beautifully written, with great clarity and wonderfully poetic style. The words stay with me-`Magic is within us, may we thrive'. I highly recommend it. Buy it, evolve-
Rating: Summary: Follower for Life due to Thorn Review: This is one of the most influential books that I have ever read and I would seriously recommend it to anyone who is looking to truly connect to themselves and the rest of mankind and to find a true place in this universe. I am getting ready to start the practices and I can not wait to finally get going on my life, I do believe that this is the key that I have been searching for all of my life.
Rating: Summary: Evolutionary delight Review: This is the best-ever witchcraft book, and the only real Feri how-to book in existence. It is beautifully crafted by a true poet and a Master of her craft. The material on the Iron and Pearl Pentacles alone is more than worth the price of the book.
This is a WORK book. Beware. It challenges you to open yourself and to grow, heal -- and evolve -- in ways you may not be expecting. It will bring you firmly into your body and also between the worlds.
The reviewers who have said "if you only buy one book, this is the one," are right. This is the one. I hope there will be many more to come from this brilliant author.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book Review: This is the book that I spent years looking for when I was first drawn to witchcraft. It teaches from the inside out, as the reader transforms him or herself using the powerful teaching exercises. This isn't a book for someone looking for instant knowledge - you've got to work thtough the book to get the benefits. But when they come, those jewels of learning are wonderful and powerful.
Rating: Summary: Rich Work for Deep Growth Review: Thorn is a gifted teacher who reaches through the pages of this book to engage the student. The writing itself is art, rich and evocative, nourishing the soul. The book is chock full of skills and tools to "know yourself in all your parts", to grow and evolve as humans. For those ready to move past dabbling, this book lays the foundation for daily practice, a way to commit to ourselves and the Gods in our everyday lives. I highly recommend this book and this work.
