Rating: Summary: Was a "student" of Uri's Review: I knew Uri Kaploun years ago when I came to Yeshivat D'var Yerushalayim in '78. Kaploun met me at the door of D'var and personally escourted me into that bedbug infested, filthy dump.
I was involved with a Hebrew Christian cult (See my review of Rabbi Shea Hecht's "Confessions of a Jewish Cultbuster"). My face fell as I walked into D'vars hallway and it looked like Castle Frankenstein. Uri noted my displeasure and didn't let it go.
I was recovering from what happened to me at the hands of the Ben Yishai cult and wasn't up to par yet. Kaplound told me a story about how a man wanted to become orthodox and was ordering his wife around: "You're going to wear long dresses, you're going to shave your head...". The woman went to the rabbi who taught her husband and the rabbi said that if you want to be "machmir" (stringent) on a commandment there's a commandment to be merciful to your wife" Be machmir on that.
Kaploun tried to teach me a ritual that for some reason I couldn't master. He simply hated me after that. Why should I bother with these type of people when I could go back to Christianity where I've been helped for years.
Of all of the rabbis at D'var, Uri hated me the most. The truth is that I never wanted to know him, wish I hadn't and the last thing that I want is someone like him running my life.
