Summary: A pleasant read that covers a lot of important territory.
Review: A lot of people write books about psychic functioning, remote viewing, and related topics. McMoneagle is one of the few with the hard credentials to stand up to the toughest critics.

One of the founders of the US Gov't "psychic spying" intelligence unit, the only individual in the gov't program from its inception to its termination, one of the rare handful of people to specialize in both intelligence psi data collection and scientific research, McMoneagle has demonstrated his RV abilities live before congress, in intelligence, in the lab, and on national television (some in the USA, mostly in the UK). He's the only known soldier to win a Legion of Merit (the highest award an intell agent can win during peacetime) for psi work.

If you read Jim Schnabel's "Remote Viewers..." you may end up feeling like it is a Joe-the-Hero book -- most of the amazing tales, feats of glory, and opportunities to brag in this field come directly from the archives ! of Joe's personal sessions.

So, it's pretty interesting to hear it from Joe's point of view. MIND TREK was originally released in 1993 -- two years before the US Gov't program was declassified -- back when few had heard of the subject. When the CIA declassified the program and it got tremendous publicity in late 1995, sales skyrocketed. In 1997 a second edition of MIND TREK was printed, with the small addition of a couple of chapters on RV myths and the STAR GATE program. (As another Amazon reviewer noted, other than these two chapters and a couple minor details, there is no real difference between the first and second editions.)

The book MIND TREK is mostly the story of a slice of Joe's life. Beginning in 1970 when he was in the Army overseas, when a "Near-Death Experience" (NDE) radically changed his perception, the book chronicles his learning to remote view, his work with the late Bob Monroe on out-of-body experiences (OBE), some of the more interesting R! V targets he's been assigned, and things he's learned along! the way.

Down to earth like he is, it's a good read. I found the intro and first chapter a bit long, subjectively, but from Chapter 2 on I was engrossed and couldn't put it down.

Along the way, the book provides advice from an expert for people working to learn RV on their own, info about practicing and targets and proper protocol that is basic, but critical, to the official process of remote viewing.

As a reader, I really enjoyed the book.

As one struggling to work on psi abilities myself, I've found over time that it contains a lot more great advice than I realized on the first read-through.

I recommend it to anybody interested in these subjects.

Summary: Remote viewing - The Science of it
Review: A truly superb masterpiece by Joe. Here, not only do you get the knowldge needed to understand RV, but you get all the fundemental basics, the buiulding blocks, and history of RV as it is known in the present time. Joe sticks to science, perhaps a little 'too much', but I can understand the reason behing this approach because the filed is new and it is open for scrutiny. I especially like the emphasis on the difference between the level of 'believeing' and 'knowing', and the fact that he relates to his experiences from onse side of the abovce mentioned bridge to the other. Highly recommended.

Summary: Best book on remote viewing by most qualified author
Review: As the author of the forthcoming Psychics and Soldiers-A History of the Military-Occult Complex, I have researched the subject of remote viewing and can attest that the author of MIND TREK has produced the most valuable guide on the subject. It is not surprising, as McMoneagle is the most qualified remote viewer, with more than twenty years of experimental and operational experience in the field. Besides invaluable advice on techniques and protocol, McMoneagle's book challenges our thinking, our concepts, and our ingrained beliefs about the space-time continuum. A must read for students and aficionados of the paranormal, and the possibilities of human performance.

Summary: Where's the beef?
Review: As the author of the newly published PSYCHIC BATTLEFIELD (St. Martin's Press) I performed extensive research into the history of remote viewing, and interviewed McMoneagle several times. His book MIND TREK is authoritative, interesting, and comes from the pen of the best remote viewer in history. For the complete history of psychic spying, get my book PSYCHIC BATTLEFIELD. For the best by the best, get MIND TREK.

Summary: If you are comfortable with your current reality DO NOT READ
Review: I have read a lot on the subject of remote viewing, and until I read Joe's book I didn't think I was capable of actually doing it. The book has just the right balance of history, entertainment, and instruction to make you not want to put it down. Why spend thousands of dollars on instruction when everything you need is right here? Read it once, read it twice, then go out and do it! Only Joe has the integrity to sell you a book for under $15 postpaid when many are charging thousands for instruction that does not measure up to their claims.

As a student of philosophy, this book changed the way I view reality. When your reality is shaken like that many people become vulnerable to cults, which for me would be a definite worry if I learned from an instructor, rather than a book. This is a powerful skill and such power is often abused when in the wrong hands. Proceed with caution and don't become a victim, get the book!

Summary: I'm Embarrassed to Admit I read it.
Review: I wish I could get my money back for buying this book. The author sure did a Mind Trek on me. I read this book beginning as a skeptic, and finished the book a skeptic. This great opus to remote viewing in the end made me feel is if I was being hood winked. It was as if I was reading the transcript for John Edwards Crossing Over and going you really think he's talking to dead people... or as Halley Joe Osment from Sixth Sense said "I see dead people."

The book read well and was well written all things considered. However, I felt as if the assumption made by the author was "of course its possible, see her is the evidence." Instead, I wanted to see "it is impossible this is why you can still do it." In the end, I felt like an idiot for buying it, and it sits on my shelf as a reminder not to listen to the radio in the middle of the night and buy books at the suggestion of a certain UFO talk show host.

Summary: A Great Place to Start
Review: Joe has written a very good "how to do" remote viewing book that opens the door for all who wish to walk into this wonderful world. There is a lot of good practical advice that doesn't overwhelm the novice but enriches the knowledge base of an expereinced viewer. I also recommend his new book for those who want further depth to the subject. Joe is undoubtly the best teacher of this subject in the world.

Summary: Mind Trek
Review: This book is THE BOOK on remote viewing in my opinion. The author in his humble way, explains step by step what remote viewing is about and how to actually do it. I tried to experiement with his techniques and got very good at doing remote diagnosing for my patients. It works! I enjoyed the style, honesty, facts, and how to of this book. I recommend it highly as a good read, and great referrence for those who are interested in non-local realities. Thanks :-)

Summary: Interesting biography
Review: This is an interesting biography of an amazing man and his experience. It also shows the possibilities of an unusual use of the mind. It's not a how-to book though it is a useful tool to show what has been done in this area. It's worth reading but don't expect much enlightenment.
