Summary: Great book
Review: A wonderfully written book. Easy to follow, susinct. I have been a long time reader of Crowley and have been conjuring for close to 10 years and this book is what I wish I had read when I was starting out. A student handed it to me about 6 months ago and I've reread it a dozen times. If you are interested in understanding the Enochian system of conjuring, in easy to understand language, buy this book. My only wish now is to meet the author.

Summary: CROWLEY-DUQUETTE-HYATT, an Unholy Trinity
Review: Aleister Crowley was called a black magician and the "wickedest man in the world." He was also called a holy-man, prophet, and Logos of the Aeon. In either case, he was the most brilliant and prolific philosopher magicians of the 20th Century. His greatest failing (if you can call it a failing) was the fact that he wrote as if he expected his readers were as educated, brilliant, and insightful as he. (He also mistakenly thought they could all figure out when he was kidding.)

I'm no dummy, and it took me several years, lots of reference books, and a good deal of spiritual courage before I could begin to appreciate Crowley and his works. Helping to light my way through the dark tangles of Crowleyana were two books that were amazingly easy to understand, THE ENOCHIAN WORLD OF ALEISTER CROWLEY, and ALEISTER CROWLEY'S ILLUSTRATED GOETIA. These little gems were written with the expressed purpose of making Crowley's works on Enochian and Goetic magick comprehensible and usable.

I don't know what gods conspired to bring Lon Milo Duquette and Christopher S. Hyatt, Ph.D together as a writing team, but I thank them. Both these gentlemen are prolific authors and famous in their own right, (just search their names on Amazon.com). Together with Crowley, however, they become an Unholy Trinity of modern magick.

If you would actually like to perform magick instead of just reading about it, read both these little books now. Do I sound impressed? I am.

Summary: One of the best books on Enochian Magick!!!
Review: ENOCHIAN WORLD OF ALEISTER CROWLEY
ENOCHIAN SEX MAGICK
by Aleister crowley, Lon Milo Duquette, Christopher S. Hyatt, Ph.D.

Does Enochian Magick make you want to pull the hair out of your head because it is a complicated system? Then you may want to pick up the book Enochian Sex Magick even though Enochiana can be a complicated system Lon Duquette and Chistopher Hyatt make it more easier to understand. They clear up the publishing mistakes of the past and give you a basic Enochian dictionary in the back. They put in a lot of the works of Crowley but they make comments on it to help those who find Crowley complicated or who are just learning about the Enochian system of Magick. They also include some very important work that Crowley wrote Liber LXXXIV vel Chanokh (Enoch in Hebrew). This book gives out the fundamentals in an understandable user friendly way. Also they give you hints on things that will help your learning to become much more smoother. Also there are important illustrations in here as well. This is a book that will require to be read again and again from tim! e to time and also it makes a nice reference as well. Also the authers add their own experiences with Enochian magick as well. By the end of this book they give you a basic example of sex magick. Also you will find the Ritual of the pentagram & the Hexagram ritual and not the kind of ... ritual that the Schulers pulled off eighter. My only real big ole complaint about this book is why the heck did they make this book so short? I wish they added more since I really love this book! My sugestion to the authers would be to make another Enochian book! The book is 162 pages long and I doubt the serious magician who is interested in Enochian magick would find this gem disapointing. Well we all have our opinions on whats is good but I love this one. I will tresure this one until it falls apart.
out of a possible 5 stars this one gets all of them.

Summary: A Pleasant Surprise!
Review: Ha ha! Well, I've been aware of this book for some time now and have had a strong interest in the Enochian sytem but until recently I never had any desire to purchase this particular volume. My reasons for this were primarily that 1) the first book I had purchased by these authors was "Aleister Crowley's Illustrated Goetia" which had some alright information in it (though nothing particularly special) but which was illustrated with the worst Dungeons & Dragons-type drawings (no offense to D&D which actually has MUCH better art) they could possibly have chosen. Overall that particular book disappointed me greatly and so I was wary of anything else by the same authors. Then, 2) the title of this book, proclaiming "Enochian Sex Magick" which I'm not really interested in. However, recently I was browsing on Amazon & decided to read some of the reviews for this book and was very intrigued by the overwhelming positive reaction to it. Also, it was pointed out that the sex-magick section was just a couple of short chapters and that the book was mostly the simplest, most lucid & usable explanation of Enochian magic available. Well, I bought it and it really is just that! Many other books on the Enochian system either require too much equipment or too much prior training or are just plain too damn complicated to decipher (at least for MY poor little ol' brain, heh heh)! So, if you have any interest in actually trying this system out rather than just reading & theorizing about it, I'd say this is the book to get! (Although it may not be right for either "original John Dee system" or strict "Golden Dawn Enochian system" practitioners, anyone interested in Crowley's magic, Chaos magick or just plain Western/European Occult Magick will probably find it to be the "key" that finally opens the door to the Enochian system for them). Very Good Book!

Summary: An excellent general introduction to Enochain magick
Review: Hyatt notes early in that he has 'found the Enochian system to be the safest, cleanest and most logical system of practical magick one can perform. But it is an art and as such requires not only study and practice but also inspiration and the love-hate relationship all artists have with their craft' (pg 59). He further advises the reader to 'resign yourself at the outset to take responsibility for your own magical reality. When you have firmly assumed this responsibility you will realize there is no Enochian universe per se. There is only your universe which you can access by the Enochian formulae. There is no Enochian magick per se. There is only your magick, facilitated by the methods of the Enochian system' (pg 21).

It contains Liber LXXXIV vel Chanokh, with detailed notes and further explanations preceding the text itself, providing a lucid and detailed guide to the Enochian system via Crowley, spiced with anecdotes describing the authors' personal experience with the Enochian system.

To further facilitate the ease of understanding the system the authors advise using coloured diagrams, noting that while 'all this may take a few hours to execute but it will save you months (or as in my case, years) of confusion' (pg 46) as through colour-coding it becomes more obvious how the tablets relate.

However, the section devoted to sex magick is small, only two short and somewhat vague chapters tagged on the end. Hyatt intends this 'for the reader who is already knowledgeable on these subjects', noting that he is merely offering 'a few helpful hints concerning how Enochian can be used in these areas' (pg 104). While this may be true, it also means that it doesn't quite warrant the slightly misleading 'Sex Magick' subtitle given to it.

Toward the rear of the book there is an Enochian dictionary; complete with several pages of Enochian words, their pronunciation and English translation. Also included is the Lesser Ritual of the Hexagram, and in the appendix there are several diagrams of the tablets, the pentagrams and signs, as well as eight 'sex magick symbols'.

Lucid, concise, precise in its language, the Enochian World of Aleister Crowley is excellent as a general introduction to the study Enochian magick through Crowley, if not a practical guide to sex magick.

Summary: Magick Made Easy
Review: I was so enthralled by this that last night I read about 80 pages in one sitting. This has a few easy rituals to do and one with a partner. I was amazed at how easy a couple rituals were as described in this book. Also included are lovely illustrations. Aleister Crowley's rituals are controversial and simple. This blows away trendier witches and warlocks' rituals in mass market books due to the simplicity of them. No hard to find, specialized items. Pure black magic? Yes; blasphemous and easy!

Summary: Very Lucid Book on Enochian
Review: I wish I would have purchased this book when I began studying the Enochian system a while back (the title put me off and I thought it was some strange digression on the Enochian theme). This book is plain and simple Enochian basics with nothing else thrown in (except for the interesting and brief sex magick chapter)- unlike other authors that include their own personal views and revelations. If you can't understand this book you probably don't need to be practising Enochian magick anyway. Duquette and Hyatt give the basics from Crowley's Liber LXXXIV vel Chanokh outlining how to work with the Enochian spirits and the 30 AEthyrs- very clearly explained with excellent illustrations. They also explain how to color the elemental tablets and the Tablet of Union which I have found lacking in some other texts. There is also a very brief chapter at the end of the book on Enochian sex magick with some interesting illustrations (I don't know why they put that in the title since it is not the major focus of the book, but, hey, sex sells...). There is also an Enochian dictionary in the text with phonetic and English translations. I have had some misgivings about Hyatt's writings in the past but this is outstanding. It does not get any simpler than this when it comes to understanding the basics of the Enochian system.

Summary: Perfect Vehicle to Open the Gates of Enochian Magick
Review: The Enochian Keys are given a new dimension of life in this book. Like it's companion, Crowley's Illustrated Goetia, Uncle Al has, once again, managed to simplify, by cutting out the fat and getting right to the meat of the matter. Taking an ancient, and very hazy subject that few have written about, Aleister Crowley, et al, have taken the Angelic keys - attributed to Enoch himself - and brought them home. Now anyone can utilize the power of the ancient spirits to channel a part of themselves that lies dormant. But, beware! For, just like Solomon's Goetia, Enochian calls have been warned about for centuries. Whether for research or for practical use, this book belongs on anyone's list of invocation magick.

Summary: A Hypnotists Conjuration
Review: There is no doubt that the method presented by Mr. Crowley works. But one must ask, precisely what does the user accomplish? What is completely ignored in this Western tradition is that the consciousness, that which we seek to awaken is a polarity: it can awaken positively or negatively. The one who awakens positively becomes what is broadly acknowledged as a master: one who has transcended all known laws and is moves in a world far beyond our conceptions. Yet, the same is true of the Black Master, for he also moves according to different laws. The distinction is this: the White Master frees himself of all bonds through the release of his own consciousness from the prison of the mind. This is accomplished through Willpower and Imagination, utlizing ancient methods and techniques long hidden from the common man. It is, in synthesis, the destruction of the ego which frees the soul from its cage. The Black Master does the opposite: by indulging in his desires, by feeding his craving for power, for sensations, he condenses the mind, the ego, and makes it very concentrated. The primary method used by both is also similar: the use of the most potent force in the universe: sexual energy. However, the distinction here is also most clear: the White path demands the renunciation of animal desire, the destruction of attachment, the freedom from sensation. The Black path demands animal behavior, destruction, and the most gruesome crimes against oneself and others. All the works of Mr. Crowley teach how to awaken the consciousness while strengthening the ego and the animal mind. This is pure, unadulaterated Black Magic. What he does NOT teach is the end result of said work: the accumulation of massive karma, and the unavoidable descent into the Second Death. For more information, read the works of Samael Aun Weor, especially The Perfect Matrimony, The Revolution of Beelzebub, and The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of Tarot and Kabbalah.
