Summary: The Ethics of Reading for Others
Review: After reading Professional Tarot, I do not at all understand the reviewer from Portugal who calls this book a deception. The author clearly states in the beginning that this is not a book for beginners or part-time readers, or a basic tarot text for self-understanding. Rather it is a book for people who want to earn a fulltime living counseling others using the tarot cards--in an ethical, safe, compassionate and responsible way.

Our reviewer from Portugal also states that this book is too "materialist." (I assume he or she means materialistic.) The whole point of the book is how to earn a living reading the cards by following sound business practices grounded in professional ethics. The author makes a clear distinction between greed and prosperity and defines prosperity as having enough money to continue with the work we love, namely reading the cards. She also has a section on issuing refunds and declining to read for others because of issues of dependency.

The author describes situations where a person's problems are outside the scope of a tarot reading and offers suggestions on how to make intelligent referrals to professional health care providers. I have never seen a tarot book that devotes so much space to knowing when to stop a reading and enlist the aid of trained professionals.

I simply believe our reader from Portugal, while entitiled to his or her opinion, is being unfair in the assessment of the book as deceptive. I don't believe that tarot card reading will ever be on the same level as professional counseling in the public arena, but Jette tries her best to add dignity to reading the cards for pay.

I thought this book was rather spiritual in its approach to earning money. The whole book is about the morality, ethics and responsibilty of charging money in exchange for a tarot reading. I recommend this book if you want to earn a living reading the cards for others (or make money teaching it)--and maintain a clear conscience in the process.

Summary: A Timely Work
Review: Christine Jette's book, Professional Tarot was a book I had to get as soon as I learned the release date. It was timely in that I am currently starting a Tarot-based business.
Once the book was in my hands, I familiarized myself with the set-up, then dived in. It did not disappoint. I discovered that there is so much personal responsibility involved in reading the Tarot professionally, as it should be, to further the field. This book did not give me cookie-cutter meanings for the cards, thank God, but did give me realistic and inspired ways to go about setting up a business.
Christine Jette's writing style is personal, comfortable, and appealing. This is a woman who's been there and has no airs of self-righteousness. I will read her other works, for sure.
Without giving it away, do yourself a favor and check this book out. If you are really serious about being the best, most ethical, and prepared reader out there, you have to read this.

Summary: A deception
Review: If one is trying to learn more about Tarot as a self understanding tool, this book is not for you. Too materialist. It try to teaches to make money from Tarot but even this is not well done.

Summary: One of Llewellyn's better books!
Review: This is a great book for anyone thinking of going full-time as a Professional Tarot Consultant. Ethics, business management and promotional ideas, and legal info are all overlooked topics that make this book worth buying!

Again, I have to state, this book is for people whom want to make tarot reading their full time career! It is of little to no use to the hobbiest or part-time consultant.

Highly recommended.
