Summary: The coming of the next ice age
Review: After hearing an interview with Robert Felix on a radio show, I desperately wanted this book, but for some reason I just never ordered it. Well, after I finally did, I'm not disappointed in what I read.

Whether you believe that the next ice age is coming or not; and whether you believe that the dinosaurs, mammoths, etc. were wiped out by an ice age or not; there's more to this book than just that.

Mr. Felix goes into great details to explain what scientists theorize makes an ice age happens. He mainly describes polar-magnetic reversals (where the north and south poles flip); nuclear explosions on the sun, earth, and miles above the earth (those creating the Aurora Borealis); earthquakes and earthquake lightes; sudden climatic changes; etc.

The book also tells us how an instantaneous ice age can occur (feet upon feet of snow in hours). Notes are made about when 5 inches of rain falls that can actually add up to 50 inches of snow. He goes on and on about places that have received this much rain in such short periods of time, going on that it can happen with snow, not just rain. The only problem I have with this theory is that when it rains so much, its usually in an isolated area, not hemisphere-wide like he's trying to suggest.

All in all, I think it makes for one hell of a book. It's definitely one that I'm going to keep for years and years to come! But, when it starts snowing... Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Summary: Unique Ideas but with Lots of Flaws
Review: As soon as word gets out about this book, it will be an instant best-seller. Robert Felix builds his case by methodically going through all the evidence that has been amassed on geomagnetic reversals and excursions, periods of increased volcanism, mean sea levels, heavy metal deposition, ice ages and periods of increased glaciation, mass extinctions, and the periodicity of these events in context of our planet, our solar system, and our galaxy. He also debunks several of the popular myths such as asteroid impact and the current greenhouse gas theory.
His research is exhaustive - 28 page bibliography (in a 10-point font)and his documentation is equal to that you might expect from a doctoral thesis - No hand waving explanations here.
And yet the book is written in an easy to follow, logical progression that leads the reader to the conclusion that we are on the verge of the next great period of glaciation, if not in the beginning of it. I've arranged to get at least 10 more copies of this book to send to people I know will be able to appreciate it.
Eighteen dollars for a personalized autographed copy with free shipping is a steal (http://iceagenow.com) I'm going to get mine now before demand is so great that this kind of personal service is impossible.
His sobering conclusion is that when it happens, it happens all at once, not over thousands or millions of years. Just imagine nine stories of snow in a day. Think it's impossible? Think again. You need to read this now.

Summary: "Global Warming" proponents, Listen Up!
Review: I've been doing intensive property rights and resource providing research -- www.PropertyRightsResearch.org for almost six years. By its very nature, such research includes study of climate as it impacts farmers, fishermen, foresters, ranchers, recreationists and consumers. I have a cherished copy of Robert's book, and have shared it with several others, each of who has emerged from a usual "read it all in one sitting because it's riveting" read of the book with vastly changed perceptions of "global warming." Not By Fire But By Ice is revolutionary in its concept: at first glance. However, Robert Felix is far from being the 'lone voice crying in the wilderness'. Many, many scholars and scientists are in complete agreement with his decades of research. The photos alone, at his website: www.IceAgeNow.com are enough to give the most eager "global warming" student pause for thought. Add to the photos, the facts -- including the charts of record low temperatures and the years in which these record lows occurred -- and most will quickly understand that "global warming" more closely resembles a used car salesman's sales pitch than actual fact.

Summary: Crucial information for humanity
Review: It's not a matter of IF, but WHEN. The geological record shows the clockwork-like cycles of the ice ages, and Robert Felix presents the evidence in an easy to read format. His tones of urgency in his writing make for a compelling and suspenseful read. I found it hard to put the book down, and have read it three times. Hundreds of subsequent radio interviews reinforce that Mr. Felix is not out to 'make a buck' or to scare people, he's truly concerned about humanity's vulnerability to abrupt climate cooling, and is worried that our attention is focused in the wrong direction. I recommend this book to everyone as a wake up call that global warming will not kill us all, but an Ice Age very well could. I also recommend his information-packed website at www.iceagenow.com

Summary: Bad Science
Review: Lots of psuedo-science in this disaster scenario scare book. Author blames magnetic reversals for almost everything; dinosaur extinctions, earthquakes, sea level changes, and most of all ice ages. He mixes enough actual science in to alarm people who are not well read on these subjects. Many scientists and scientific concepts are quoted way out of context to prop up author's theories. For example he confuses nuclear fusion in the sun with the aurora, calling it "miniature atomic explosions". Does he know he causes 'miniature atomic explosions' every time he turns on a flourescent light? Many of his ideas could be shown to be wrong with a couple of magnets on your desk.

Summary: Meandering with the mammoths.
Review: Meandering in circles. An idea should be presented in a logical framework.Sequence , structure , organization ...missing.Should the content be of value and relevant to humankind one should at least take the time and trouble to organize one's thought and present them as such.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Unique Ideas but with Lots of Flaws
Review: The main flaw of the book is that it seeks out scientists who cooborrate the authors opinions while not paying enough attention to the vast evidence against such opinions. For example an overwhelming majority of scientists do not connect the dinosaur extinction with either an ice age or magnetic reversal. And the meteor impact theory has much, much more going for it than what Mr. Felix tells us in his book. The bottom line, magnetic reversals are quite common, there are maybe 5 every million years and we do not have mass extinctions 5 times every million years. So why do I give this book 4 stars? The main reason is that the author presents a very intriguing theory linking underwater volcanism to El Nino and to ice ages as well. This is the first time I had heard this theory and it sounds quite plausible. Also the author does give pretty good explanations of complicated topics in a way that a lay person could understand so the book is quite educational. You can tell this guy definitely knows his stuff. So, buy the book, read it, but research further and make up your own mind.
