Summary: The most frightening story ever!
Review: Even if it is "the story of a true haunting," this is a fairly sick book. The author is obviously relishing the necrophilia theme, and sensationalizes it ludicrously. Worse is the book's obvious "Christian" agenda, which might be summarized, "DON'T listen to that evil heavy metal music, DO keep bibles beside your bed, and whatever you do, DON'T touch an Ouija board!"

Review: Ghosts and I have a long and turbulent past, but nothing could have prepared me for the utter terror that this book brings to mind. Just thinking about it in the past tense I get goosebumps. A loud voice screaming your name from the wide open basement door, "Get down here!" just absolutely thirlls me. I have yet to read anything scarier than this book and it is a travesty that it is out of print.

Summary: read the author's own words on whether the story is true...
Review: I first heard about this when watching a movie on the Snedekers' story on The Discovery Channel. Their names had been changed, but those of others who were interviewed had not. As fiction I could give this 3 stars because the movie wasn't bad. But what had kept me so riveted to my seat was the fact that it was presented as something that HAD INDEED HAPPENED, i.e., this was being promoted as NONFICTION. The Discovery Channel was lending its credibility to it, after all! Proof of the supernatural was here at last!! Well, I had to see what all the naysayers had to say about THIS! They must all be running scared now. I will let the book's own author make any further comments. Just get on Google and search for "Ray Garton" and "make it scary." You will find an interview with him about this book on Ric Osuna's Amityville Murders site.

Review: I found this book in the library years ago. I have always been interested in accounts of supposedly 'true' hauntings and this book turned out be my my absolute favourite to date. I have since read it 3 times.

It really is compelling. I'm sure there are many people who feel they are true afficionados of hauntings so I challenge you to read it and place your opinion on it here.

This is the only book I have read that actually bothered me and I couldn't put it down.

Whether Ray Garton has embellished on the happenings I don't know. I know a film was made, changing the name of the Snedekers but it was apparent it was the same family. The film is totally wishy washy compared to the book though. A lot is left out and in my opinion you don't get the same feeling that you get from the book. I loved it. It still scares me to this day and I have been searching ever since for more stories like this, which is shameful of me because it means someone else will have been through what the Snedekers went through. I have to say it grabs you from the start. Its such compelling reading. I recommend it. I don't usually scare easily when reading, but this one did it.

Summary: One of the scariest books ever read!!
Review: I have just finished another book on a real life haunting also researched by Ed and Lorraine Warren..."The Haunted" reminded me of a book I had read in previous years...In a Dark Place. These two books had me concentrating so hard on everything aound me that I read both books each in a day! Very much recomended!

Summary: Scared me to DEATH!!
Review: If you want a book that you can't put down, but that makes it impossible to sleep at night, this is the book for you. I promise you that it will scare...you. To date this is the scareiest book I ever come across and I can't even believe it's out of print! If I had only known that I had a little gold mine in my hands when I had it I would have never lent it out...

Summary: Not the Warrens...AGAIN!
Review: Not only did I read the book, I recently saw the t.v. documentary on the discovery channel. I admit that in the beginning I thought that this story had the potential be quite frightening. And then, in stepped the Warren's and I pretty much tuned it out.
The Warren's also participated in the Amityville Horror and The Haunted. While I do not know much about the outcome of the family in The Haunted, I do know, as the rest of the world does, that Amityville was a hoax and the Warren's love to scare people.
I love ghosts and ghost stories but any story that the Warren's are involved in should be taken with a grain of salt (just my humble opinion). I'm thinking that had the family involved employed someone like Sylvia Browne, the outcome would have been COMPLETELY different and there would have been no talk of demonic forces.
The book is worth reading if you enjoy getting the creeps like I do but as to it's validity, I have some serious doubts.

Summary: A WONDERFUL scare!!!
Review: Okay, so maybe you've never heard of IN A DARK PLACE; but believe me: if you like horror mixed with the struggles that a family goes through in the never-ending saga known as life, read it. One of the only books that have ever sent shivers down my spine. I was, cautiously, racing through the book, having finished it in two or three days. Words cannot describe (well, obviously they can if they're in the book) the atmosphere that this book presents, the way its pages reach out with their hands and grab you, not releasing its grip until the very last page is read. Although I'm not really sure if this book was ENTIRELY true I think it was still a very dark, entertaining journey into the realms of the Unknown. Do read it!

Summary: Not the Warrens...AGAIN!
Review: THIS BOOK WAS VERY SCARY AND I ENJOYED IT ALOT, BUT THERE WAS ALOT OF THINGS I FOUND UNBELIEVABLE, IF YOUR HOUSE WAS HAUNTED BY A DEMON WOULDNT YOU FIND A WAY TO MOVE TO A SAFER PLACE FOR YOUR FAMILY? AND AS FAR AS THE DAD (AL) GETTING RAPED IN THE REAR BY THE DEMON WAS A BIT TO MUCH. THERE WAS A SHOW ON DISCOVERY ABOUT IT LAST NIGHT CALLED "A HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT" THAY WERE CALLED THE PARKERS IN THIS SHOW BUT IT WAS DEFINATELY THE SNEDDECKER STORY ( IF THATS EVEN THERE REAL LAST NAME)
I WENT TO SEE THE HOUSE A FEW YEARS AGO AND I SPOKE TO NEIGHBORS AND THEY TOLD ME ALOT WENT ON IN THAT HOUSE WHEN IT WAS A FUNERAL HOME. BUT THEY DIDNT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE SNEDDECKERS STORY. I BELIEVE THE HOUSE WAS HAUNTED BY SOMETHING BUT IM SURE NOT TO THE EXTREME THE SNEDDECKERS SAY IT WAS.
