Rating: Summary: An "indigo","old soul/scholar&artisan" saying BAD FRUIT ? Review: A review for a book such as this cannot be complete without including the gist of one's personal exchange and experience WITH the teaching itself. The "effectiveness" of aiding improvement of one's life first through deeper understanding: is that not the point of books such as these in determining their value?I was first exposed to the Michael metaphysical model of the universe when I was 11 reading michael gemstone dictionary about metaphysical properties of stones. However, it was ten years later that I began seeking out more information on the teaching itself. Over those next few years, I read all of the michael books and became completely absorbed into the channeled teaching quite naturally. I "automatically" applied it to my daily life as so many things began to "make sense" with the NEW explanations offered by this intricate metaphysical framework. I grew very hungry for more and more of it. My perception of the world had changed and my sense of what and why in terms of my life had become - quite frankly - unusual and bizarre. Any comment I'd make in any normal conversation which reflected the system really required a bunch of bizarre discourse in order to explain my response. This odd perception of mine was direct from the metaphysical system channeled from the entity who wants to be called "michael": an alleged collection of souls from a plane higher than ours, who had already cycled through their series of lifetimes; and as a collective had, in its spare "time", some lovely "theories" and "lessons" about the structure of spiritual existence to offer us more open-minded and oddball types struggling through the physical plane. *Awww*, how "thoughtful" to consider us weebles in the spiritual "evolutionary" backwash, eh? Within those years of thoroughly enjoying the teaching in my reading and contemplation of it, I watched my life crumble. Upon analysis, examining its subtle yet deep influence on my perceptions and decision-making, it became clear that I have only experienced bad fruit directly from the michael teaching. After giving up the course in miracles game after experience proved its utter falsehood completely, and next this (years later) with michael, I decided to steer clear from anything "channeled" and finally take seriously the warning of false prophets, "christs", and "other"/"new" gospels. The michael teaching was only one of a plethora new age ideas nestled comfortably together that I entertained and practiced for years. Peers and mentors used to "marvel" at my "wisdom" and "insights". But here I am, now telling others this: it's NOT "all that". I was fooled by the elegant and "freeing" appeals to my intelligence, wasting time with teachings like this that obscure truth through its provocative, theoretical layering. Like other pseudometaphysical hot topics, this mental deception appeals most to highly intelligent and deep-thinking types because it sends your abstraction-loving mind reeling. If one slices enough facets into a dazzling model such as this, it ultimately becomes a mere tool for reflecting one's most intrinsic, selfish desires that all humans naturally have and yearn to justify and rationalize. Choking on an excess of grey, michael mentally seduced me into my own waking hell. Incidentally, when I decided to abandon the whole system, it surprisingly took three months to stop thinking "this way". I don't expect my testimony alone to convince anyone; but, I still must share it. I am now an ex-new ager.
Rating: Summary: The Michael books are among the best. Review: Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Michael books (Messages from Michael, More Messages from Michael, Michael's People, and Michael for the Millennium) are among the finest examples of "channeled" wisdom. They are similar in some ways to the "Course in Miracles", the Seth books of Jane Roberts, and several other such bodies of work dictated to mortal human beings by disincarnate teachers. The source of the wisdom in "Messages from Michael" and its sequels is an integrated causal plane spiritual entity who borrows the name "Michael" from its last-incarnated individual human soul fragment. Each such entity comprises about 1,000 such fragments. Michael describes the system by which human souls, themselves fragments of an entity similar to the Michael entity, are cast into existence by the Tao, and how each soul fragment has as many physical incarnations as it takes for the fragment "to experience all of life", that is, to absorb all of the wisdom that life is designed to give to each of us. Each fragment is cast in one of seven "roles in essence" which it retains throughout its evolutionary existence. For each incarnation it may choose a different set of "overleaves", characteristics that will profoundly color the fragment's personality and the kind of experiences it will have in that particular life. Michael describes in lucid detail the system of overleaves, giving plenty of examples of how they work together to create a particular kind of life. Michael also describes the major life lessons ("monads") that each fragment must complete and the workings of karma. The number 7 is essential to the system that Michael describes. There are 7 roles in essence, 7 soul ages, 7 modes, 7 goals, 7 centers, etc. It is not an arbitrary number. When the complete system is delineated you can see that it is comprehensive. For example when you look at the 7 roles in essence described by Michael, it is very hard to imagine there being an 8th role or only 6 roles. 7 exactly covers it. The Michael books will not give you all of the wisdom you need for a fulfilling life, but when you are ready for them they can help you toward a greater understanding of why you are here and how it all fits together.
Rating: Summary: Messages from Michael Review: I first read this book years ago when my then-boyfriend handed it to me as something to consider. The Ouija board on the cover of the paperback made me skeptical and hesitant to read what I thought would be a book of 'hocus pocus.' I put my skepticism on hold, and was amazed to find a book so useful as I tried and tested some of the information in my day-to-day life. All is chosen. Messages from Michael further explains choice, ramifications of choice, agreements between fragments ('people,' in laymen's terms), The seven essence roles (Warrior, King, Slave, Scholar, Artisan, Sage and Priest), each role's overleaves, their polarities (positive and negative), centering, and modes. All of these aspects affect choice, and depending upon one's overleaves, some choices will be easier than others. Also covered are the seven levels of love and the seven levels of disagreement. Fear and maya are the obstacles to overcome in love, agape. This book has helped me to become more aware of myself, my maya, and the world around me. I highly recommend this book. If you can, also try to get the two books that follow in this series: More Messages from Michael (five stars), and Michael's People (five stars).

Rating: Summary: Still holds up Review: I read this book about twenty years ago, and at the time was a little concerned about the concept of revealed wisdom. Sure, the information made sense to me, but the source seemed...odd. Twenty years on I recognize one very important thing: Truth is what it is. Doesn't matter who tells you, if it's true, it's true. So is this stuff true? Well it's impossible to say with any certainty, so you have to judge it by two criteria: First, how applicable is this information to life? Second, how does it enrich your own life? To the first question, I would answer that I find it validates itself over and over. Often, when dealing with a difficult situation, I find myself analyzing the people involved in Michael terms, and I find that a lot of things fall into place. Solutions to problems seem simpler once I've applied the Michael teachings. To the second, I'd have to say that having come to terms with a universe which is governed by the laws of karma has made a great difference to my peace of mind. So suspend your reservations, your prejudices and your skepticism about channeling, and read this book for the content. Judge the content. Apply that to your daily life, not the concept of chanelling, and see if it doesn't validate itself for you.
Rating: Summary: waste of time Review: It's "messages" are from a parker brothers game. These teachings are hardly a basis for an ethos. If you need a crutch for introspection and daily existence try "Celestine prophecy" atleast it tells you to eat right and notice the power struggles in everyday conversation, that's something. This books ideas aren't new, it just rearranges them into parker's bros. games as mediums.

Rating: Summary: A Great Teacher Review: One of my college professors knows the people who first contacted Michael. She sat in on a reading once (with the same people in the book)and said there was a "definate energy" in the room, although Michael did not talk to her.
