Summary: The best
Review: I have to disagree with the last reviewer. I have also read Therese Francis' book on this complex subject, and liked it. However, I don't think it compares with this study by Chrissie Blaze on Mercury Retrograde, which is far more thorough and far more user-friendly (especially to the astrology novice). Blaze covers a lot more ground, such as practical ways to survive Mercury Retrograde for each of the Sun signs. I also have given this book as a gift to many people, as it is a really attractive looking book, rather than the Ms. Francis book, which is more of a booklet. Everyone I have given it to has been really delighted. Solves a lot of Christmas gift ideas, especially since Mercury is retrograde this holiday season (starts Dec. 17)!

Summary: Helpful and informative
Review: I work in the publishing world, where there is a tremendous fear of and interest in Mercury Retrograde. I have read two other books on Mercury Retrograde, but found this book to be the most enlightening and helpful of the three. I have little knowledge of astrology and I like the fact that this author writes simply and without astrological jargon. Also, the book is fun to read, which is nice. Although I'm interested in astrology, I find that astrology books are so often tedious to read that I give up on them. The author examines what Mercury retrograde is and how it affects us. I love the fact that she explains the effect of Mercury in the twelve different signs, and how each sign tends to react to Mercury Retrograde, what it means to be born with Mercury Retrograde, and gives charts so that you can find out if you were or not. She also explains all the different Mercury Retrograde periods, giving dates and meanings. I am not sure what one of the reviewers meant when they say that the meaning of the Mercury Retrograde periods was omitted. I found it to be quite easy to work out what it means, for example, when Mercury Retrograde is in Capricorn. I like the fact that you can look things up very easily without astrological knowledge. I like the format, and the many examples. I work with books on a daily basis and I think the author has done a great job in making a complex, mysterious subject very easy to understand. I also love the fact that she concentrates heavily on how to make these periods POSITIVE ones. This is the first time I had realized that Mercury Retrograde could actually be a good thing. Now I actually look forward to them. I give this book 5 stars, and it makes a great gift (especially for colleagues in the publishing world!)

Review: If this book had come out ten years ago, I would've given it an unqualified 5 stars & wished to give it even higher. It's a good effort on a difficult & widely overlooked subject.

So, with no wish to fault the author -- if you've got the book, then by all means apply it without hesitation -- but the one by Therese Francis is superior: briefer, tighter, & more directly applicable without falling into the sort of detailed analysis that a high-level astrologer is looking for. In short, Francis is a long-established astrologer, & is speaking from both her credentials & a desire to bring a complex subject to a wide audience in an immediately applicable manner. Francis even went on record mid-2000 predicting how the retrograde Mercury would directly impact the elections of that year, a truly remarkable feat demonstrating the occasional blunt applicability of astrology to the daily life of millions.

Summary: So-So
Review: Not bad, but could've been a lot better. About half the book is an ephemeris, which details future mercury retrogrades periods, and also allows you to determine where mercury was when you were born, and whether or not it was retrograde.

The "meat" of this book is rather slim--a quick read set in large type. As if the author didn't have that much to say. If it weren't for the ephemeris, this would be merely a pamphlet.

The author discusses what mercury retrograde means for each of the sun signs, and how each sign should deal with it. This part was good, but could've provided more information. The author also discussed the significance of the position and motion of mercury when you were born. These analyses seemed really off. The author even admits that it's the position of *all* the stars, not just mercury, that determines personality. So why bother with these?

What this book really needed was a discussion of what it means for mercury to be retrograde in different constellations. What will a mercury retrograde be like if mercury is in Aries? Taurus? Virgo? Each retrograde period brings with it its own set of challenges, so a description of each of the twelve would've been much appreciated.

Summary: An Eagerly Awaited Book
Review: There are forces of destiny in our lives that go beyond chance, like astrology. Everyone is affected by Mercury Retrograde. Chrissie Blaze gives us an effective and practical way of handling its disruptive influence, and even turning it into a gift. Infact, she shows us the Cosmic purpose of Mercury Retrograde - and how to utilize it to produce a happier, more fulfilling life. With the law of karma, one learns that what was once considered inevitable and fated, can infact be changed... and so too the influence of Mercury Retrograde. Chrissie writes with clarity and simplicity of an ancient science that has increasingly of late become all too complex and mathematical. This is a fun, practical, meaningful and eagerly awaited book!

Summary: Blazing through Mercury Trials and Tribulations
Review: Understanding Mercury Retrograde is important for all astrologers, because as we know, the phone starts to ring off the hook the day this pesky little planet goes backwards (from our perspective) in the sky! Since we are currently doomed to deal with this phenomenon 3 times a year, it pays to brush up on the meaning of Mercury Retrogrades and find as many positive ways to deal with it as possible. I think astrologers will find Chrissie's book particularly handy because it has tables in the back for quick reference and it tells each Sun Sign how to survive! You can even recommend it to your clients because it is so easy to navigate through and understand. It is demanding work to write about Mercury Retrograde and I think Chrissie has done a great job!
