Rating: Summary: kinda cheap... Review: i guess i should have taken the hint from the phrase "rouge scholars." i thought this book was not the greatest. the first bit is pretty cool, but the rest of it sounds like something out of a video game or bad RPG (which some other reviewers have said it actually is). i wouldn't buy this if i were you. instead read grant morrison or pete carroll and experiment.
Rating: Summary: A post-modern review Review: The language in this book is easy to understand. The author presents a fairly good grasp and understanding of book magick and post-modernism. The systems he presents are intriguing, but I would've liked to have seen each of the systems more developed in this booklet. Also the Ad&D compedium of spells once again didn't exactly work for me. Still it's worth picking up and getting a different outlook on magick.
Rating: Summary: Magick Counter-Culture Review: This book, like Condensed Chaos & Liber Null before it, is destined to be a staple for the magical fringe. It presents the razor's edge of magick theory. The language and tone of the book was very accessable, it was 'no-fluff' and to the point without being overly simplistic. There was a maturity present throughout the book that lent credit to alot of the more radical ideas and techniques presented. The book was written with a creative flair that while edgy and stylish, could challenge readers who are more comfortable with the dry tone of more "respected" texts. The only reason I am giving this a 4 is that I would have liked the book to be a little longer, the author is dropping some MAJOR concepts, and the novice reader might have to do some outside research to fully comprehend some of the more complex elements of the text.
Rating: Summary: Punk Rock for the Occult. Review: Unlike the musty tomes of outdated hacks, this book has a fresh style, unique content, and straightforward language. I've owned this book for some time now, and it is one of the most hardcore and effective grimoires I have ever encountered.
I'm glad that the book has techniques, terminology, and methods that aren't based on outdated and overused ideas.
I'll be the first to admit, this book is not for everyone, but what book is?
Read it for yourself.
Make your own opinions.
That's what magick is all about.
