Rating: Summary: Good explanation of the text using dialogue Review: I really, really like this series. This is the first volume and looks at Chapters 1-2 of the Lotus Sutra. I loved the fact the text is a dialogue; it puts a lot of energy into the text which makes it easier to read. If you like to interact with texts, this is an easy one to do it with! The dialogue also allows the topics to venture a bit; sometimes they get away from the Lotus Sutra, but are rewarding and informative nonetheless. There is an intelligent integration of Buddhist teachings with Western knowledge and views that support one another. I am in my second reading of this and I am always able to find new insights that make the Lotus Sutra that much more deep and rich. However, this book is very much framed in the SGI/Nichiren Shoshu understanding of Buddhism and Nichiren's teachings. I feel that, sometimes, the book gets lost in various tangents about the SGI vs. Nikken issue and can make for sour reading. Those points though are very small and do not detract from the overall intelligence and insights the work produces.

This volume, Volume 1, examines the first two chapters of the Buddhist literary masterpiece, the Lotus Sutra.
