Summary: The Convergence of Competence and Passion
Review: When an author and historian as prolific and accomplished as Gonzalez turns his attention to the historical theology of a doctrine he is particularly passionate about, the result is a remarkable work. Faith and wealth proceeds systematically and insightfully through the reflections of all the major document of early Christianity on the topics of wealth and the poor. He frames this discussion with a helpful discussion of Greek and Roman thought and some of his own reflections. The text is rigorous and readable - by far the best on the topic of several I surveyed.
