Summary: A++++++++++ Translation
Review: I have always had trouble reading the Bible. The language was always difficult, and even though I went to church and understood the stories, I tended to "get lost" when I was reading the book on my own.

...until I got this Bible.

The Student Bible has, by far, been the easiest read of any Bible that I have ever had the pleasure of reading (and owning). 3 different reading tracks can take you through the key points of the Bible quickly, through every book in a semi-long amount of time, or through every word in the massive book. However, while this comes in handy, what I found most useful was the inserts inside the reading. Constantly throughout, notes have been made, explaining traditions, who people are, and other things that people today might find odd or confusing. For example, in Ezekiel, there is a note that helps explain the afterlife, saying,
"Though eternal life shines through a few Old Testament passages (see "Life after Death," page 581), life after death was extremely vague in most of the Old Testament. The grave was represented by a place called, "Sheol." The fate of the nations described here as "within the grave" gives a vivid, eerie sense of death."

These notes, along with advisements at the beginning of each book, help provide additional information and assist in the comprehension of events and ideas. This Bible also has a helpful glossary, a lineup of rulers, a subject guide, and maps that pinpoint places and journeys (among these are the Land of the Twelve Thieves, the Kingdom of David and Solomon, Jerusalem in Jesus' Time, Jesus' Ministry, and much more!) This Bible is awesome! It has been the only version that I have been able to read consistently and understandably! A+++++++++++++++++++

(This review pertains to the leather-bound book.)

Summary: Great Bible
Review: I have tried many other bibles and this is the best one that I have found so far. It helps you understand everything in it and is extremly easy to read. I reccomend this to all ages.

Summary: Great First Bible!
Review: I've been using this one since I became a Christian. The notes and tracks are really helpful. I'd recomment this to anyone looking for a good way to start diving into the Word on a regular basis. The only thing is I wish it came in a bonded leather compact edition so that it would last.

Summary: Lack of plot coupled with bad translation?
Review: I've never really been a fan of The Bible, and The Student NIV is no exception. I really can't fathom what makes it such a great literary work when it has a lacking plot, indecipherable narratives, bad POV changes, and a terribly disconnected ending. I mean, New Jerusalem? Who would buy that? And doesn't one find the idea of streets paved with gold to be outdated? Another thing, the switch from the Jews to the Christians is a bit murky. I can't see one guy (albeit a cool dude like J) coming to save the world from an end that the world can save itself from.

Isn't the Bible just a bad mythological misconception of historical occurances around Macedonia in 4000 B.C.? I'm amazed that such a large cult following has developed from the very idea! Perhaps one shouldn't be so sloppy in choosing a cult (remember Jonestown,) but Christianity could really use a better book.

I, for one, wasn't impressed.

Summary: For students of The Word. . .
Review: The Student Bible is a good choice for those who would like to learn more about the Word of God, but don't know where to start, or how to continue. My parents gave me a copy almost ten years ago, and although it's quite battered by now, it's still the Bible I carry to church and use during my personal devotions, although I've collected others over the years. The Insights and Highlights are really helpful, as they often turn up at a tricky or confusing point to shed light on the issue. I highly recommend it!

Summary: Great For Students!
Review: This Bible can touch people who normally dread opening the scriptures. It makes the bible easier to understand and cherish. It is filled with many tips, reading plans, and facts. There is a great section in the back where you can look up bible verses by subject. I gave ended up giving my copy to my non-church going teenage neighbor who came over my house and started thumbing through it. Next thing I know she asked if she could take it home cause she was so interested! She's reading it cover to cover! Excellent!

Summary: Outstanding Bible for those with little time
Review: This book is great! I wanted to read the Bible, but I am a student, so time is definetly an issue, the content of the book is so well written that when I did have time I could pick it up remember what I had read before and continue reading without having to stop an try to figure out the meaning of words or phrases. So in short it's a well organized, well written and well broken down edition of the Bible.

Summary: Great for those who would like to get to know God better!
Review: This is a perfect Bible for those who are new to the Christian faith. It includes a Bible study plan, plus other study helps throughout. It's usually advertised for those in high school and college, but this Bible is great for everyone.
