Rating: Summary: The BEST book on going after what you want. Review: Gently, but without mincing words, this author delivers a matter-of-fact message that cuts through the psychobabble of finding out "why" something is. Then he tells you how to pursue your dreams and to get unstuck from wherever it is you ARE stuck. It works for young and old, scholars and teachers, slow or warp-speed minded. His methods apply to all. I've listened to it three times and will do so again. And I've bought the book! I want to change my life!
Rating: Summary: Milton is a Scientologist Review: This guy belongs to that insane Hollywood cult called Scientology, which Tom Cruise and John Travolta are members of. He basically rips of all the ideas from L. Ron Hubbard and puts them into his book. If you want to join a cult go take classes at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. I did, it was a very weird experience. I did not know they where all scientologist. When I found out, I got the hell out of there and into a real acting class. If are a typical emotionally broken actor/artist, you will love it, and they will love you, because emotionally damaged actors/artists are extremely drawn to cuts, because it feels like it is giving them what they desire. If you want to be a great actor, then wake-up get over your "stuff", become a responsible adult and learn the real craft of acting from a real teacher. If all you think about is your Academy Awards speech, then you have real problems. I suggest sobering up, hit your face with cold water, get out of fantasy land and into reality. You need to be really in touch with who you are if you want to be an actor. You need to get grounded on the Earth. Ground your root charka down here. Once that is done, then you can begin the real adventure. I have taken several different acting classes in LA. Most of the teachers are full of themselves. That is why they are just teachers, teaching workshops. Acting is an art. It is not any different than any other art form. All the same rules apply. When you go to a painting class, you usually here the teacher talk about painting and demonstrate how to paint and ways to improve your work. Then why, when I go into so many Hollywood acting classes, do the teachers spend 75% of our class time that we are paying for, talking about other issues that have nothing to do with the craft of acting i.e. Politics, Sex, Sex, Sex, Sex, and more politics. That is the favorite subject of Hollywood acting teachers. If I wanted to pay to hear about politics and sex, I would be taking a class in politics and sex, NOT acting! I was one of the few people that did get a full reimbursement from Milton's class. A trick they do to students is make them feel that they have to try out for the class. They do an "interview" to see if you are good enough to get in the class. This is a scam, to make you feel special. They will take any sucker who has money. Then they will tell you, you qualify and get in. Then they hit you up for a huge deposit. Which they fail to mention is non-refundable. Well I got mine back. because my teacher in Milton's class insulted Alcoholics Anonymous. He made fun of the organization and said people don't need it. He basically ripped it apart. AA has been one of the most positive and helpful movements and organizations in the history of mankind, helping millions and millions of people improve their lives. I don't know of anyone, except my teacher at Beverly Hills Playhouse, that rips AA apart. That is like making fun of Mother Teresa. The teacher had no class or perspective on what emotionally, mentally, and spiritually helpful things. They tape record every class, the schools management played the tape back and did verify that the teacher did disparage AA, they promptly returned my money. Otherwise I would have taken them to court and I don't think they would want the publicity out that Milton's school makes fun of AA. By the way, my own personal option of Milton is that he is a dry drunk that is not into recovery. Oh yea, did I mention, that every acting teacher I met in LA is a sex addict, except one. All they talk about it sex.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: This is one of my favorite audiobooks. Milton is very pragmatic and focused on real life. Everything he says can actually be applied to your life and your situation. I think my two favorite concepts are the career concept and the flinch, though I totallylove the entire thing. I really love the flinch because it's this great thing you can just bring out when you're having motivation problems. It's much better than "Come on I can do it!" It's "Don't flinch!' To my than makes it this great challenge or a game. So much better than when most motivational speakers say "See every problem as a challenge."
