Summary: Buy and read this first!
Review: I cringe when I think of all the money I wasted on beginner's tarot books, when this slim little $10 volume is all you REALLY need to begin. It's illustrated with the Hanson Roberts deck, so it will serve you well with any Rider/Waite-style deck. The card interpretations are concise and easy to inderstand. It also contains useful advice for performing readings and giving advice, plus lists of correspondences that I've not seen anywhere else. Once you have studied the fundamentals with this book, by all means pick up any of the hundreds of other tarot books for more advanced, in-depth training (I like Juliet Sharman-Burke's "Mastering the Tarot" and Lon DuQuette's "Tarot of Ceremonial Magick").

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Complete and Easy - Ideal for the Beginner
Review: This book covers all the cards in a typical 78-card deck in clear, simple, unambiguous language, the meanings assigned to each card. Two spreads are covered: the Celtic Cross Spread and Double Celtic Cross Spread.

If you are a beginner, you will also find other helpful directions and advice as to how to start. For example, how to shuffle, deal, phrase the question(s), draw your own associations about the cards, test the validity of your readings before attempting to read for others, etc.

The language is plain simple and easy to follow. The illustrations are in black-and-white, of the cards in the Hanson-Roberts deck --- artistic and yet not "overloaded" with symbolism. This is one of the best books suited to the beginner. I am glad to be owning a copy of this book...

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great for Beginners
Review: This book is a great introduction to the tarot. The Hanson-Roberts deck used to illustrate the book is very straightforward in its symbolism. I would have liked some more information on spreads, but all in all, this is a really good book.
