Summary: WELL??????????????
Review: Hope was hopeless. I thought I was ordering a good book I dont reccomend this book to anybody practising celtic magic

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: NOT FOR BEGINNERS OR SEEKERS OF FLUFF
Review: The title of this book is misleading; there's very little practical magic instruction. A beginner will be totally turned off by the book's rather scholarly tone. The history is much more accurate than you'll find in any Llewellyn book, but as such, it can get a bit heavy & confusing for those reading about Celtic mythical/magical history for the first time. Topics that are covered are the Eddic literature, the hill figures, Irish, Welsh & Scottish links, megaliths, the Authurian sagas, the Grail, the Druids, the magical alphabets, Taliesin, fairies, music & dance, and then the book dives off into the "magical part", with suggestions for ritual. I did not really enjoy this section, as I just didn't "click" with the way Hope constructs his rituals.
Overall, if you want a more reliable source for Celtic magical history than Llewellyn, are not completely new to Celtic myth & magic, and don't mind a lot of detail, this book is an enjoyable read. If, however, you want a more accessible, "hands-on" beginner's book, then pass by this one.
