Rating: Summary: A Short and Sweet Story Review: This is a book I plan to recommend to others. It is a quick read with a short sweet story. I love reading about New York in the 1950's, what a lovely era. Lucia is a woman even the modern girl can relate to. As Lucia argues throughout the book about careers and families, every modern woman still has this conflict today. I like how the author lets us know how all the characters end up. The only disappointment would be the simple writing style. Although, it makes a wonderful short read. Read this book!
Rating: Summary: Cliched and predictable, but entertaining Review: I read this book because I heard the author interviewed on NPR, and she seemed bright and interesting, albeit slightly bossy. And I wasn't entirely disappointed. The writing is artless, but competent and readable. The characters are predictable and cliched, but sympathetic. The plot is formulaic and hackneyed, but interesting. This was an utterly enjoyable, mostly harmless beach read, and I recommend it as such.
Rating: Summary: Best Book I've Read In A Long Time Review: This was the first time I have read a book by Ms. Trigiani and I know that I will read her other three. The characters were intriguing, well developed and each possessed a unique personality. The story line was not only thought provoking but contained twists and turns that you could not easily see until they were upon you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has loved, lost and moved on.
Rating: Summary: An Italian "Greek Wedding" Review: Adriana Trigiani's latest success is the fictional life story of Lucia Sartori of Greenwich Village. The book's framework introduces us to Lucia as the leading senior citizen resident of an apartment building in contemporary times. The bulk of the novel is a flashback to her younger years as a career woman in the 1950s. As always, Trigiani's words flow easily across the pages and pull us right into the living room of this Italian family. Half the fun is listening in on the conversations between these interesting characters; the other half is having the facts of Lucia's background unveiled to us, bit by bit, complete with the usual everyday twists and turns. These people are real, and the family dynamics are reminscient of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and Julia Alvarez's "How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accents." This quick and satisfying read is full of romance, tragedy, fashion, and feminism. Treat yourself to a weekend curled up with this book and you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Feverously Devoured ~ This book knows it's been read! Review: Pages crinkled from dried tear drops, the print muddled from drops of red wine, baking flour stuck like glue between chapters ... this book became my constant companion. I could not bring myself to break from its compelling story line and return to my daily routine. I loved it!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Italian Family Story Review: I opened this latest book by Adriana Trigiani with trepidation since I had loved her Virginia trilogy so much, but I absolutely loved this book! New York and Greenwich Village in the 1950's was a world I hadn't explored, and Ms. Trigiani's love of family shone through just as it had in Big Stone Gap. I loved the fashion details, and the recipes. The characters are people I would enjoying meeting.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous, Fabulous Review: I read this book in one sitting and didn't want it to end. I kept thinking the next day how much I wish I were still reading it !!! What a great story of family, loyalty and determination.I have only been to NYC once in my life (20 years ago) and don't remember that much but I was SO there in this story.. I have not read the Big Stone Gap trilogy but it is on order as we speak !! Don't miss out on a GREAT read..
Rating: Summary: Bittersweet moments Review: I work in a bookshop so I was given an advance copy and I started reading it one afternoon without much thought. But it held my attention my entire afternoon and I finished it that evening. It is truly a sad story at times, showing how one's choices, (some incredibly simple) can dictate so much of a person's life. The title character, Lucia is an incredibly headstrong and independent person. Quickly she finds herself wanting more than life initially is offering and takes off in a new direction. She experiences anguish, but in the end she finds she is much stronger then she thought. The characters were endearing and all equally complicated. No one is truly awful, including the person who hurt Lucia the most. It is a fine example of the frailty of humans and how often people who love you the most, can equally hurt you the most.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: This is the most amazing book I have ever read. The Big Stone Gap series is on of my favorites and Adriana Trigiani has done it again. I fell in love with Lucia and her family. I didn't want the book to end. I laughed, I cried and I cried again. A wonderful, wonderful book.
