Summary: From the Gentleman¿s Club series
Review: Both Norton Russell Foxhass, Earl of Granby, and Catherine Hardwick are cynical about the opposite sex, believing they are not to be trusted. Granby further likes variety too much to content himself with a single woman for more than a few months; that is, until Catherine nearly runs him over riding a beautiful stallion called Storm Dancer. Women usually graviate to his reputation for being a vigorous lover as well as for his wealth and his title. So Catherine's determination to keep her distance, despite their scintillating chemistry, captures his attention.

Catherine is perfectly happy living in Wichcombe, far from London's labyrinth of silly rules and foolish gossip. Unfortunately, her father wishes her to be married and based on what she has seen, women do not find happiness in marriage. Full of spirit and not afraid to say what she thinks, Catherine proves to be irresistible for Granby. He becomes determined to buy Storm Dancer from her father and also to know Catherine's passion first hand, even he must wed her to do so.

With intriguing flair, author Patricia Waddell pens a must read regency in HE SAID NO. Irreverent humor, unexpected levity and sparkling wit all find voice from fresh characterizations and subtly unexpected plotting. Granby and Catherine, as well as marvelous cast of secondary characters, are filled with the joys and foibles that bring each characterization vividly alive. Fierce independence and powerful desire combine in this amusing read that belongs on the keeper shelf. Guaranteed to win the reader's heart, HE SAID NO comes very highly recommended.

Summary: Put a smile on my face
Review: HE SAID NO put a smile on my face. This book was a great change from the dark, brooding heros that I find in so many historical romances. The story was fast-paced and the all of the characters very well written. I highly recommend this series to everyone.

Summary: A clever title and a great new series
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It's a fast paced read and has good
dialog, humor, and romance...

By the way, the reviewer who wrote 3/29/04 that she didn't understand the title as it had no connection with the story
of the book OBVIOUSLY did not read the whole book...it's quite
clever and interesting to discover why the gentleman says no...

I'm looking forward to "He Said Now" later this summer. Wonder what the book after that will be titled??

Summary: Say YES to He Said No
Review: Patricia Waddell delivers another great historical romance with He Said No. Granby (the hero) makes the transition from rake to besotted husband with ease. He delights in his changing feelings and takes the reader along on the ride of his life. The romance sizzles and tempts, the setting and plot are on the mark and the characters are as real as if they were standing next to you. Don't miss this exquisite detour to old England. . .and you may not want to come back!

Summary: I returned this book
Review: Thank God I was able to get my money back for buying this ridiculous book. I can't believe the good reviews this book received and this is what I based my purchase on. I regret buying this book because it seemed juvenile and immature. Towards the end I was skipping whole sections just to get through it. It was reminiscent of books written in the 80's.

Both the "hero" and the "heroine" were amazingly immature and I found neither of them likable both for different reasons. The "hero" because he was overly domineering and controlling. He was NOT my ideal of a hot, romantic, "hero". He completely railroaded the "heroine", he bullied and dominated her. She was no better because she allowed him to do this...but I think she was just too young to deal with this man.
It was irritating to me the way she'd promise herself she'd never for instance kiss the "hero" again or she'd promise to avoid him or whatever, but the author wouldn't even let 1 day go by without her breaking her word to herself. Supposedly, she'd be overcome once he'd "press his mouth to hers". She'd completely forget herself and "fall completely under his spell". This happened too many times for me.
It was also frustrating that we were constantly told how independent she was, but her behavior did not show this, just the opposite as a matter of fact. She became extremely dependent on the "hero" in a very short period of time.
Then, I was frustrated by the fact that even though she vowed that she would not be forced into marriage, within 30 minutes with the "hero" she'd already changed her mind.

Finally, I found the ending unbelievably predictable. She saw her husband kissing his previous mistress and instead of confronting him she jumped to all the wrong conclusions and fled. Oh brother! That scene was done ad nauseum in the 80's romances and I felt it really lacked imagination on the author's part. This is supposed to be the big finale which helps the "hero" realize that he is in love with her. It was too ridiculous. By the way, the book is titled, HE SAID NO. What did he say no about, or to whom? The title was in no way relatable to anything that happened in the story.
I will not be purchasing any of this author's books in the future.
