Summary: A diverting tale of wills
Review: Lady Emily dreams of her great love, the man who will come claim, her husband. All she wants is a man who will love and cherish her. But as the daughter of an English Lord, fate deals her a different hand. Draven de Montague, Earl of Ravenswood comes for Emily, but not as she assumes, as the man of her dreams. A Famous night who intimidates everyone, he has come to kidnap her! At the orders of the King, he comes to steal Emily, hold her for a year in order to stop the two houses from continuing their bloody feud. Despite his plans, Emily is determined she knows the right of it and he will marry her and they will live happily ever after.

A faint touch of purple prose mars the effort. It's well balanced with angst and humour in proper portions, but the characters just seemed a wee bit two-dimensional.

Still a wonderful read, and showing she has a voice in historical romances that just keeps improving.

Summary: Very disappointed with this one...
Review: I am normally a big fan of Kinley MacGregor books, but this one was such a huge let down. I felt that the characters were weak and the chemistry b/n the love leads was severely lacking. I kept rolling my eyes everytime I read something along the lines of "I can never have her, but there's just something about her, but I will not allow myself to succomb to my desires." blah,blah,blah... After reading this basic sentiment for the 20th time, I was thoroughly bored. I was never attached to the characters or yearned for them to come together. I won't be completely negative though, I enjoyed the scene that took place at the Lincoln Fair, but that's about it.

Summary: Best of the best ....
Review: This is the first, of many, Kinley MacGregor books that I read ... the first of many because this book was exceptional!

Ever had an over-protective father who just didn't want you to get married, or leave home? Well, Emily sure has one! Given a prime opportunity to find herself a husband, Emily grabs it with both hands .... the only problem is that the man Emily grabs is her fathers hated enemy! Draven and Emily's story is humorous, sweet, and unusual ... poor old Draven doesn't know what's hit him when he meets Emily, and right from the start you know that he's fighting a losing battle ... you can expect laughter, compassion, and a sweetly haunting tale that you will never forget. Both Emily and Draven resolve issues, both present and past, to find true love together.

Why are other reviewers comparing this novel to the Wolf and the Dove? The Wolf and the Dove is one of my all time favourite books and I see no comparison in story lines here ... Master of Desire is completely different but just as good (I don't generally believe in comparing different writing styles because it is like comparing apples and oranges ... doesn't work at all): Woodiwiss has a far more serious, intense writing style; MacGregor has a more humorous, hauntingly deep (on the emotional level) kind of writing style. For example, main men: we're talking staunch, warrior who at one point chained and threatened to rape/beat Aisleen in the Wolf and the Dove COMPARED WITH an aloof warrior who goes out of his way to protect, nurture, and please Emily, the daughter of his hated enemy, in Master of Desire ... no comparison at all!

Anyways, definitely worth a read, you will no doubt do so more than once! Kristina

Summary: A historical romance worth reading...
Review: Draven de Montague, Earl of Ravenswood had no desire to be guardian to his enemy's daughter. He can't refuse his king however, and reluctantly heads to the home of a man that he will never turn his back on. Expecting to find a wilting flower that will cower at the sound of his voice, Draven is beyond surprised to find Lady Emily is the exact opposite of what he expected her to be. Instead of timid, she is bold, instead of cowering, she stands up to him. She is unlike any woman that he has ever known, and the one woman that he can never touch, for he has sworn on his honor that she will be returned to her father in the exact state that she was given to his care in.

Lady Emily has spent her life sheltered by her father. After her two older sisters died in childbirth, Emily's father vowed that he would not let any of his remaining daughters marry. Sequestered in her childhood home, Emily longs for adventure, and love. For the only way for her to have children is to find a husband. She finds the perfect man in Draven, she only has to convince him that they could be perfect together.

In her normal blend of romance and humor, MacGregor delivers in this heartwarming historical romance that will be hard to put down. With family feuds, blossoming love, and raging lust, Master of Desire is a book that you will love.

Summary: Could someone please explain
Review: I enjoyed this book, please note the stars. But why when Emily chose to leave was this thread not explained. She leaves screaming for Draven to listen but even at the end there's no tender scene where her actions are explained. Once again Draven gets severely beaten to show his love. That sentiment alone was a star subtraction.

Summary: Outstanding Love Story
Review: This was soooooo great! Beautiful Lady Emily dreamt of having a husband and family but knew that at her great age of two and twenty it was highly unlikely especially with her father not letting her out of his sight and refusing to allow her to marry. But fate had a way of stepping in. Because of quarrels between her father and a neighboring Lord, King Henry had come to adjudicate and pronounced that Sir Hugh, Emily's father no longer attack Draven de Montague. In order for that to come about, he would place Emily in the care of Draven - who on his honor - would not let any harm come to her for a years time - lest he be drawn and quartered!

Well, Lady Emily didn't know about that, but what she saw of this hated enemy of her father's was the most handsomest man she ever saw and she being the spoiled and mischievous daughter who twisted her father round her finger would do her utmost to get Draven to marry her!

This was soooooo good. Along with the ribald humor of her maid Alys - who had some experience with men, and Emily's intent to make the very serious and fearsome knight Draven laugh as well as fall in love with her you are in for a real treat! Trying to get Draven to laugh or fall in love would not be an easy task as Draven had no reason to laugh. He had never been shown kindness or and his life had been a horror with a father who had abused him unmercifully all his life until Draven himself had killed him.

Ms. MacGregor has given us some wonderfully rich and satisfying characterizations in Emily, Draven, his brother Simon, and several other secondary characters. Her humor is rich and will leave you smiling throughout a goodly portion of the book and the sensuality, while not extensive, is highly pleasurable as the main characters finally fulfill their destiny! I highly recommend this novel and look forward to reading it again and again. Excellent read!

Summary: Unreal!
Review: This was my second book by Kinley MacGregor. I find her writing to be more for the younger reader. This book/story was totally, totally unrealistic and silly, but it was fun. I did smile and laugh. But, I like a higher intellectual, mature story. I won't read anymore by Ms. MacGregor. Added note: She writes detailed intimacy scenes which I like, but without the maturity of the writing/story to go with the love scenes, they are unmoving. You want to be moved - read Madeline Hunter's 3 books that start with "By......" they are fantastic mature love stories.

Summary: great medeival book
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read master of seduction too (the history of draven's brother).
Draven is a famous knight, powerfully built, that manages to intimidate anyone he meets with his fame in battles and stern character. He is a man that talks little, never laughs and keeps his thoughts to himself. When he is ordered by the king to take Emily in his castle he tries to stay away from her as she is the daughter of his enemy and also believes that his rage could prove uncontrollable when it comes to her. But what surprises him is that Emily is not afraid of him as everyone else is. She stands up to him, speaks her own mind and she is determined to get him to marry her! They are attracted to each other but too many obstacles stand between them. Of course, as in every romance they find a way to get through them and live happily ever after.
The humor was perfectly balanced with Draven's tortured past so you couldn't name it a light read not a heart-wreching one. It certainly was extremely easy to read and I couldn't leave it of my hands. Emily is determined, willful and also romantic and sweet. Draven is the typical medeival hero: gorgeous, tough outside but warm for those who know him.
Don't miss it!

Summary: Enjoyable....
Review: This was a very fun, quick read. Emily had me laughing...and I fell for Draven almost immediately. I absolutely loved the way she persued him. This was my first book by Kinley MacGregor...but definitely not my last!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Just a really fun book!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. One of the other reviewers likened it to Woodiwiss's "The Wolf and the Dove" and it is kind of a light-hearted spin on the same story. The tortured hero who needs no one, keeps everyone at a distance and the flirty, vivacious heroine determined to reach his mind and his heart. (Though both books are 5 star, I consider "The Wolf and the Dove" the better book.)

Another reviewer said "Emily cracked me up" and that is the gist of the book. She is utterly tireless (and hysterical) in her efforts to get Draven to smile, laugh and in any form pay attention to her. And he is entirely frustrated in his attempts to ignore her. She is completely un-ignorable! And she has help. Draven's efforts to say away from her are constantly thwarted by his brother Simon and Emily's maid Alys who are on Emily's side in her quest to have Draven for husband.

The book is fast paced, fun - an easy and enjoyable read!
