Rating: Summary: Very sexy Review: At first I wasn't interested in the series, then I went back and read the two books, this was much better than the first one. The lead characters are funny, sweet and hot. The story line is almost an afterthought but it is a very sexy book. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Another Phenomenal Read! Review: At the end of Catching Midnight, I wondered what laid ahead for Gillian and Aimery, but we can wait for another book in this series for that! Hunting Midnight is Ulric - Gillian's ex-lover - and Juliana's story. The story begins with a mysterious duo, one I would love to see in the next book of this series! - seeking refuge and a new home. Their quest gives the story its general theme, but it's the love between life mates that drives the plot. Juliana is a maiden fleeing the clutches of an older, amoral bethrothed, and Ulric is a heart-broken pack leader lost without love. From the moment these two meet sparks fly - literally. As Ulric initiates Juliana into the world of sensuality, she helps him find love again. Emma Holly's second foray into paranormal eromatica is even better than the first and a definite must read for Holly fans. As I hinted at earlier, my wish for the next book in this series ... A story about Bastien
Rating: Summary: Fine if you like erotica Review: Emma Holly writes very good male/female scenes from the very opening of the book, but that is all they are. There is very little romance, and a lot of what is described on this website euphemistically as 'physical activity' is the so called hero doing 'it' because of his rampant nature, with no sign of commitment in sight. and he only every charms them into it anyway. There is little sensuality, it is mostly violent and predatory and there is no real tension in the bok because she makes up her mind the first night they sleep together (another good euphemism!!) that she wants to be one of them-she figures out what he is straightaway, and them hunting for a wolf after the last woman he fooled around with in the streets also spoils it all. Pages and pages of 'physical activity' ensue, with pages more of the background of what it means to be an upyr which can be really tedious. The requisite vocabulary for the 'physical activity' is quite choice in places, as are certain of his habits. If you like erotica this is the book for you. If you like sensuality, and characters who speak to one another occasionally and show true love and esteem, try another author.
Rating: Summary: Totally enthralling Review: I absolutely loved this book! I did not realize it was a 2nd book in a line, but was able to read it without having to read the first one. (Although now I'm going to read that one too) The female lead character (Juliana) is human and meets an Upyr, (the name for the vampire/wolf clan).~ Ulric believes he thralls her and proceeds to entice her with sexual prowess. She is strong of character, although shy at first, never been from home before, but has a healthy love of the strange or monstous things from her deceased mother. She knows from the first meeting that becoming one of the Upyr would complete her. The longer they are together the stronger she becomes and Ulric, forgives an old love who abdondened him (the first book) and realizes Juliana complments him. There is no "romance" in this book per sei, but wild sexual acts, but they do fit with the story line, considering you are dealing with wolves and vampires. I was left wanting more and hope the author continues with the series. It was not your usual vampire story line with original twists and a "peek" into their beginning. I highly recommened this book to anyone who loves the paranormal/romance books.
Rating: Summary: Phenomenal, spellbinding! Review: I can't believe I'm giving this book a five-star rating when I gave the predecessor only two stars, but Hunting Midnight, the follow-up to Catching Midnight, is a true phenomenal, spellbinding read. This novel picks up where Catching Midnight left off. Ulric, the leader of a pack of immortals, is heartbroken. Gillian, the love of his life and object of his fixation, has left him for a mortal. In order to keep his pain at bay, he has one-night stands with mortal women. But when a particular mortal woman named Juliana, desperate to escape from an arranged engagement, asks for help, his existence isn't the same. Juliana, wooed by Ulric's sensuality and charisma, wants to become immortal, but she does not know that Ulric does not possess the ability to convert her into one... I love the combination of romance and erotica in this novel. It is far steamier than the first installment and it doesn't go on explaining the life of the immortals like in the first part. Also, the characters are far better developed this time around. It was great to get reacquainted with some of the characters. All I knew about Ulric in Catching Midnight was that he was very possessive, but he is far more dimensional in Hunting. And he is one irresistible hero! I even found myself thinking that wolfs, at least the ones in the novel, were sensual and erotic. This is classic Emma Holly! She awoke my senses, my heart and intellect with this phenomenal gem. There's a slight cliffhanger in Hunting, which means that there are more surprises to come. Perhaps the next installment will center on Gytha or Bastien. I cannot recommend this gem enough! But you have to read Catching Midnight first or else you won't know the whole story.
Rating: Summary: If you like supernatural romances you'll like this book Review: I haven't read Catching Midnight but I can say I can't wait to read any others Emma Holly decides to put out with these characters.
Rating: Summary: spellbinding paranormal tale Review: I jumped into the middle of Holly's Midnight series. Catching Midnight is the first book, so I guess I really should have read it before Hunting Midnight. I will have to back track. This book takes up where Catching Midnight left off. I know Catching Midnight received mixed reviews, but I wonder if that is because it was a new direction for this writer. I have often seen, when a writer is known for one sub genre and they switch to another, the readers are resistant and grumpy until they get used to the idea. Hunting Midnight is an amazing book on so many levels, proving Holly a talent beyond comparing. In the first book, Gillian was a young girl running away to the woods to escape the plague in 1300's Scotland. A clan of shapeshifter-vampires - the upyr - takes her in. Gillian finally decides to leave the clan and make her own way in the mortal world, and falls in love with a mortal. The first book ends with her leaving Ulric, the leader of the pack of upyr, heartbroken because Gillian has left him for the mortal. Eaten up with rage and despair over losing Gillian, Ulric leaves the protected realm of the upyr and ventures in to the mortal world. He meets a mortal, Juliana Buxton, who is seeking to escape an arranged betrothal, and she asks him Ulric for help. He agrees and takes her on the journey back to his world. Still hurting from Gillian's betrayal, Ulric keeps his distance emotionally, but enjoys teaching Juliana the physical delights a passion. It's erotic - as we come to expect from Holly - but so compelling. The character of Ulric is so complex, so darkly dead sexy, it is amazing. Juliana learns the meaning of desire under Ulric's tutelage, but there is still more to discover about this compelling, mysterious man. As she learns his secret, she is not frightened, but wants to embrace his dark nature. She has a longing to become an upyr herself, and remain by Ulric's side as his mate. This book is typical Holly in red-hot to the wall, no holds bar sensual exploration, yet she is so deft in creating the characters, with such a strong plot - the story is mesmerising. The reader is spellbound by the complexity of her riveting prose. Holly's deft use of Multi-POV (Point of View) allows the reader the full range of emotions, painting her "canvas" with the rich textures of both characters' emotions. Be sure to check out her novella in Hot Blooded anthology because she continues her story with Emile and Bastien.
Rating: Summary: Another hot paranormal from Emma Holly Review: I loved this story even more than Catching Midnight. Ulric and Juliana are a hot couple. The sex scenes sizzle and the plot will keep you interested in what happens next. Kudos to Ms. Holly on another steamy paranormal.
Rating: Summary: didn't do it for me Review: I read this based on the enthusiastic reviews listed here. But I've got to say I was veeerrrrry disappointed. Maybe if I hadn't read Ms. Holly's fantastically hot "Menage" first ( which someone here listed as a good comparison--all I can say is--WHAT?!), I wouldn't have found the love scenes here so lackluster. But alas, I was bored. I found the other werewolf/vampire type creatures rather boring too. Sorry to all of you who loved this book. I simply did not.
