Summary: Shines a Whole New Light on the Phantom
Review: This is one of my favorite books! My mother told me to read it as a history related book for class. We had trouble finding a paper back copy because it's out of print, but once I got my hands on it I could not put it down! I feel in love with Erik, his light and dark sides. This book follows the phantom from birth in a little French house, to a band of gypsies, entertaining in Persia, back to Paris to meet the beautiful Christine and to death in the Paris Opera house. Erik becomes so lovable, and yet so mysterious and frightening at the same time. This book was No Disapointment.

Summary: My favorite book
Review: I have read "The Phantom" over and over again and it seems like every time I read it, I see something for the first time. It is writtten in the point of veiw of multiple people affecting the main character's life: his mother, his friend, and his sometime lover. It is sensual in a respectable way without becoming lewd. It can stop you in your tracks and make you see your own world and the people around you in a completely different way. It shows you respect for life, all life, not just the convenient or pretty.

Summary: a powerful book that shocks your emotions
Review: a year ago i watched the musical The Phantom of the Opera in Dallas and i thought the musical was very touching and sensational already, and that the Phantom's voice touched my soul. i laughed, i cried, and i fell completely in love with the Phantom of the Opera. little did i know that there exists a book whose mere words can bring an even more immense feeling, whose plot carries a more powerful passion. Ms. Kay uses a very clever style to bring out a whole new Erik by portraying his life since childhood to his death. i particularly love how Ms. Kay epxresses the fear and frustration of a desperate mother. Ms. Kay's words not only illustrates the loathe and anger the traumatized Erik carries, they powerfully reflect the dark and ugly side of human nature in the society today. and i love that the Erik portrayed in Kay's book is not a dark, cold-blooded murderer who knows only how to kill but an angel who displays as much feelings as a normal human being. a book as good as Ms. Kay's Phantom can certainly be enjoyed by all ages.

Summary: Phantom, by Susan Kay
Review: One of the most moving and beautiful stories I have ever read. A retelling of the classic "Phantom of the Opera" that far surpasses the original. Haunting, dark, passionate, romantic, tragic... I first read this book nearly 10 years ago. I have lost count of how many times I have read it since. It is one of the most treasured books in my collection.

Summary: Heartbreaking and Spellbinding
Review: Susan Kay is one of the most inspired authors to ever grace the profession of writing. Her authorship is poignant and spellbinding, from the first few moments of a mother's horror in seeing her child's twisted, distorted, ghastly face, on through our terrible seat as a spectator through Erik's demented childhood through his adult life... and finally, as the "Opera Ghost" in the black chambers of the Paris Opera House. The book is very well written but let readers be forewarned that it is not without its distortions... it is often sensual, violent, and wrought with profane language... although the story is enough to captivate even the most straight-willed reader.

I hardly ever read pastiches by a rule -- most twist and demolish even the most formidable characters in literature -- but I was well pleased with this one, despite its minor flaws. My only complaint lies in the Opera House sequences itself. The author spins a magnificently horrifying and tear-jerking tale of Erik's childhood up until the point when he meets Christine, but then the reader often stumbles along through the final chapters. There are moments of brilliance, but I disliked the ending intensely.

In conclusion, it is a gorgeous story and if you tread further into the world of "Phantom," you will find yourself often reduced to tears for this poor creature known as a "living corpse." I was unable to put it down -- and was up well past midnight reading. But whatever you do... bring a Kleenex along. You will never, ever view Erik "The Opera Ghost" in the same way again.

Summary: Absolutly the Best
Review: This is my favorite book of all time. I do a lot of reading and I've read some good books, but this is my all time favorite. Susan kay out-does Gaston LeRoux. This magnificent story will keep you filled with suspense and you'll want to read it again and again. I recomend this to everyone especially to Phantom fans. Unfortunately this book is hard to find. But if you do find it, BUY IT.

Summary: The true Phantom!
Review: This is a must read for Phantom Phans. A wonderful and even sometimes painfully detailed account of Erik's significant life. Although sadly no book is perfect, this is the closest example to perfection I have ever come across. In my opinion this book is even more tragic than Leroux's version, because in the end the Phantom had to let Christine go even though she loved him at last...The end is NOT fairytale, it's rather fulfilling because Erik's legend does not end, but is neither reproduced so the Phantom's character is not tainted. This bittersweet novel will leave you very thoughtful...(oh and people writing reviews, please don't spell the Phantom's name wrong! For us phans it's rather an insult. It's "Erik", with a K!)

Summary: Read it!
Review: No words can explain how this book changed the way I looked at things. It is beautifully written and a must have for anyone who liked Leuroux's Phantom of the Opera. Kay wrote this book in such a way, that you actually get a chance to be inside Erik's head and understand why he does those mean, yet sometimes humorous things to people. It is a classic and I strongly suggest you hunt around for it....(Believe me it's worth the trouble!)

Summary: Thank you Susan Kay
Review: This book is, to say it in one word, breathtaking! I started reading and I could not stop till I had finished this book. Believe it or not, it's the truth.
This book, this story has changed my life forever. It has made me a new person. The person I always wanted to be.
Thank you Susan Kay. I own you a lot!
