Rating: Summary: My Indifferent Heart to this Story Review: Solely on the basis of readers' reviews here at Amazon I bought all of Liz Carlyle's books and couldn't wait to read them. Well, My False Heart is the first of Liz Carlyle's books I've read and it took me about a month to push through it. I wanted to like this book, but other than being disappointed by the review ratings versus the story, I was left feeling indifferent. I've read that My False Heart is Liz Carlyle's debut novel & I'll say right now: I hope she gets better. I have four more books of hers to read.My False Heart was just...average, bland, and boring. I didn't see enough about this story that was remarkable or compelling to warrant the reviews that it has received. In fact, this story was marked by an absense of momentum, much like Jacquie d'Alessandro's "Red Roses Mean Love" and Linda Francis Lee's "Swan's Grace" that were also highly rated and also, you guessed it, dullsville. This story just did not come to life for me. I liked that Evie was half-Flemish, but her family doesn't retain any Flemish customs or ever live there during the story. I bought that Marquis of Rannoch was a formidable character, but his sudden interest in his daughter seemed convenient and, yes, false. The conflict over Evie's youngest brother & heir being taken away was streeeeetched out over most of the novel and it felt like a manufactured contrivance. Most of Evie's family didn't have quite enough characterization to be interesting, except for her teenage brother who fought with Elliot. I was also looking for some real fireworks when Evie found out that she had been deceived by someone she had been intimate with. Well, she ranted and raged and I yawned. My False Heart reminded me quite a bit of Loretta Chase's Captives of the Night, but that just highlighted this book's inadequacies. Leila Beaumont is a much better drawn "foreign tempermental artist" than the heroine in My False Heart and "secretive heroes with double identities" don't get much better than the Comte d'Esmond. Read it and see if you don't agree. If you like My False Heart, please try Loretta Chase's Captives of the Night and Lord of Scoundrels and Judith Ivory's Beast and Dance and see if you don't appreciate the differences. I look forward to Liz Carlyle's writing improving with her next books.
Rating: Summary: No False Romance Review: The main characters in this novel were well developed and the plot took some interesting twists, but on the whole I found this to be one of those novels that you skim through rather than read. I found myself skipping over sentences, paragraphs, and even entire pages. There were long drawn out passages of narrative summaries that describing everything and anything in painful detail, and page after page of text without any dialogue or interaction between the characters to give it snap. There was an over abundance of internal dialogue that had the characters talking more to themselves than to each other, and a lot of secondary characters that were hard to keep track of (probably because I was skipping so much). All in all (in my opinion) not a very satisfying read.

Rating: Summary: French silk vanilla ice cream in Hot Chocolate Review: There is nothing so relaxing as a good romantic read, unless it's with a cup of hot chocolate with french silk ice cream, in front of a warm cozy fire with your very own hero. Well reading about Elliott Armstrong the hero of this book, is the next best thing to having your own. I especially appreciated the pond scene told from a woman's view (and I do mean veiw) for a change. I liked the characters and the big family setting, their contrasts were just right to make the mistaken identity really work. There was enough humor to keep me smiling, with the right mix of suspense to keep me reading (not to mention the romantic parts!) Thanks for a great book, can't believe that this is a debut book, can they really only get better, lets hope so, I for one can't wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: this book is a debut? Review: This was my first thought when I finished this book. Liz Carlyle creates a wonderful story filled with love, family, and passion. Evangiline is a strong woman supporting her family using her talents as an artist. Elliot is a man who thinks he is beyond redemption. My False Heart was easily my favorite historical romance of 1999. Take a chance on a new author, you will not regret taking the time to get to know Evie, Elliot, and the rest of the characters.
Rating: Summary: Charming read Review: While in the country searching for his mistress in order to sever their relationship, Elliott Armstrong, the much feared marquis of Rannoch, finds himself at a lovely country home. Mistaken for someone else, Elliott does not correct them. When he meets the lady of the house, Evangeline Stone, he is immediately taken with her beauty and charm and realizes that he wants to spend more time with her. Not giving his accurate name he moves his way into the Stone's charming life and into Evangeline's heart. Evangeline has secrets of her own. An aristocratic background and a step-grandmother who wants to take her brother keeps Evangeline from telling Elliott who she really is. As the two fall deeper and deeper in love neither realize the trap they've set for themselves when the truth does come out. And eventually it does. Liz Carlyle has written a wonderful love story between two unconventional characters. Elliott begins the story as a mean spirited man and Evangeline a woman with secrets. As the two open up and fall in love their shields fall away and the true characters come out. Not only is Elliott and Evangeline wonderful characters all the secondary characters will charm your heart. I highly recommdend this book and look forward to Liz Carlyle's second book, A Woman Scorned.
