Summary: Refreshing, Amazing Romance Set in Medieval Times
Review: "Defy Not the Heart" is one of Johanna Lindsey's BEST novels. I cannot even begin to say how great it was, starting at page one. This book was fast-paced, witty, well written, and had some unbelievably unforgettable characters.

Set in medieval times, "Defy" is a story about the mercenary knight Ranulf, who kidnaps Lady Reina to force her to wed a greedy lord, only to be convinced by Reina to marry her himself.

Reina is an awesome heroine. Nicknamed the "Little General" by her new husband, she has a sharp wit, fiery temper, and a penchant for calling her loved ones "lackwits." She even goes to war against a cat.

Ranulf is her gorgeous equal -- part grouch, part giant, with a sad past and the body of a god. I love the fact that he spends most of the book trying to figure out how to pleasure his wife in bed, an area where he was most disappointing at first.

This book is unique among Lindsey's work. She is careful with the narration, using a "medieval" writing style. There are some serious laugh-aloud scenes in this book, mostly because of the cat and Reina's gay chambermaid. And, the story revolves around the two characters getting to know each other after having been thrust into a quite-unexpected marriage (rather than revolving around a bad guy or some other distracting plot line). Altogether, it's a refreshing change!

I heartily recommend this book. It is Johanna Lindsey at her best! Though, please note, it does have a sequel in the recently published "Joining," which is like a deflated balloon compared to the amazing zeppelin of a romance that is "Defy Not the Heart."

Summary: A definate must read!!!
Review: I absolutely love this book!!!..I've collected all Johanna Lindsey's novel and this is by far the most interesting book of them all (my opinion.) Reina is a Herione i'll love to know in real life. She's not beautiful but she has that sort of charisma that attracts people to her...good or bad. and her tongue!!! That girl can kick your butt with words and left you wondering what just happened!.. the writing was unique and witty. Reina is not spoiled like most of Ms lindsey's other heriones and she knows what she wants,so she go for it not waste the reader's time debating whether she's in love or not. I'll recommende this book to someone looking for a little change in Ms lindsey's writing

Summary: Engaging
Review: I am not an avid reader of romance books but I have read all by Johanna Lindsey. What I found appealing about this particular book was the relationship between Reina and Ranulf. It demonstrated how important laughter is in love and how once it has been found, how it should be savored. A lovely book.

Summary: Garbage
Review: I have only read this book by Johanna Lindsay and it turned me off any other books she has written. The characters are not likable, the plot is weak and the romance and chemistry are missing. All throughout the book, the leading male character, Ranulf, is more trying to exert his authority over his wife. I cannot even begin to count The number of times he threatened to spank her. Spank Her!!!!!!! like a naughty child!!!!!!The first time he threatened to do that, it just turned me off the story. And at the end, he actually did it. Because his wife did not jump to obey his orders. That just made me think of him as a big brute on some enormous power trip. Especially since his wife made him a wealthy land owner. This book is useful if you need kindling for your fire but not much else. From what I have heard, Johanna Lindsay's books all have the leading male roles filled with the same kind of character. Maybe she is just turned on by domineering, bullies who have to have complete control, but i'm not. The spanking scene is the crowning touch of this book. It turned it from bad to worse. How can anyone consider this book romance when the heroine gets flipped over her husband's knee and spanked?

Summary: Defy Not the Heart
Review: I have read every Johanna Lindsey book ever written, and my all time favorite is Defy Not the Heart. I can not say enough about this book. It is a page turner, so be careful not to start it in the evening, or you won't get any sleep that night. I personally have 3 copies of it, with different covers on each.

I highly recommend purchasing this one, and sharing it with anyone who is an historical Romance fan.

Summary: Entertaining and Refreshing
Review: I love Johanna Lindsey's books. However, this one is one of my favorites. I especially got a kick out of the dialogue between the characters and their dialects and speech patterns. It lent an air of authenticity to the setting of the book. Ranulf is a true warrior but he does have his soft side and it does not make him any less strong.

Summary: Never without a Copy
Review: I LOVED THIS BOOK! This was the first Lindsey book I read, and that was 12 years ago, and I still have at least two copies. There is everything in this book, love, suspense, *romance* and alot of humor. It is an easy and fun read. I have continued my reading with Lindsey, but this book will always have a special place in my heart. Pick it up and give it try. You will laugh!

Summary: Wonderful
Review: I was not disappointed with this book. I was DEFINITELY one of my favorites. At first Ranulf seem so dangerous and cold, but with Reina help he turns out to be a man any woman can love. I found it very heart warming that he took the time and effort to find a way to give his wife pleasure with his fears getting in the way.

Both Reina and Ranulf were WONDERFUL characters. Reina was soOO sprited and so fun. Ranulf was so caring, understanding,& fair. I love the relationship they have going on. If it wasn't for Reina wit and spunk we wouldn't have seen Ranulf playful, sexual side. I LOVED THIS BOOK AND RECOMMEND ANYBODY TO READ IT. Johnanna Lindsey biggest fan.
