Summary: Did I read the same book?
Review: In 1884 Indian Rock, Arizona Territory, Angus McKettrick is irate with his three adult children as none of them remember his birthday. Hurt, he tells his three sons that the first to marry and have a child will inherit the ranch. The oldest son Rafe sends for a mail order bride.

In Kansas City, Emmeline Harding lives with her Aunt Becky in the latter's boarding house that is really a whorehouse. Emmeline normally stays away from the customers, but meets a Texan, gets drunk, and has sex for the first time. An upset Becky throws Emmeline out of the house. Emmeline answers an ad and marries Rafe by proxy. She informs Becky that she is leaving to join her husband.

Emmeline travels to Indian Rock but she keeps secret from Rafe that she grew up in a brothel and had sex once like a whore. When his half-brother arrives, she realizes he is the man she had sex with. Emmeline falls in love with Rafe and tells him the truth about her background. Rafe angrily leaves so Emmeline moves off the ranch leaving little hope for this couple to find happiness together

HIGH COUNTRY BRIDE is an entertaining western historical romance that is superb when the story line focuses on the lead couple. However, the introduction of sidebars that seem to predominantly introduce other characters for future books slows down the strong prime theme. Still readers will delight with the antics of the lead couple and look forward to Linda Lael Miller telling the tales of Rafe's brothers, Kade, and Jeb.

Summary: It's Funny and Endearing
Review: Ok, it's a little forumulaic but done sooo well it's endearing and it pulls you into the story. Set in the 1880's a clue-less cowboy type Raf desides to send away for a mail order bride. He's hunky, sexy and in for a surprise when he mets our heroine. It's a feel good story.

Summary: Fun, fast read
Review: The first in a new series, HIGH COUNTRY BRIDE was a quick, entertaining read. It is the fairly fast-paced tale of Rafe McKettrick, one of three brothers forced to compete to be the first to produce an heir in order to inherit a sizeable ranch, and Emmeline Harding, niece of a brothel madam, and, maybe, a prostitute, who is his mail-order bride. This novel is thick with fun, interesting characters, love (so many couples!!), and a certain amount of mystery in the shape of one "Sister Mandy" who everyone doubts is actually a nun. I look forward to seeing how marriage turns out for the other McKettrick boys.

Summary: Another Awesome book by Linda Lael Miller
Review: This book is written in the wonderful way only Linda knows how. Once again her style takes you back into time with Emmeline and Rafe. It is like all her other frontier books - CAN NOT put it down - I read it in 1 1/2 days.

The characters in this book are riveting. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this 3 book series.

Summary: HERE'S A KEEPER!
Review: This book made me laugh out loud. I loved how Rafe was totally in the dark about what Emmeline was doing or thinking. I laughed at the antics of Becky and her daughter. Rafe breaks your heart with his sweet, albeit misguided, offers of a hot brick and a nightgown. I totally loved this book. I really cannot explain why, it just seemed like a fun romp in the southwest. A cowboy and his mail-order bride. I haven't read much of Ms. Miller, but I do know that I will definitely be purchasing the second offering in the McKettrick series. Hopefully Ms. Miller won't stop at Kade and Jeb. I need to see a novel about Holt, too!!

Summary: PLEASING....
Review: This was my first read for this author. Although it did not rank with my favorites, it was an enjoyable read. It began well but half-way through I had the ending figured out. I will still buy the the next in the series to see what happens with Rafe's other brothers!
