Summary: Sweet tale of true love
Review: I have been sporadically reading Kurland's books for a while now, and have been getting them all out of order. I just now finally got to Robin and Anne's tale, although I've already read all of the subsequent books - and overall, it was delightful to finally hear how the two found each other.

Kurland writes some of the sweetest romance stories I have ever read, and "If I Had You" is no exception. Her characters are sublimely human, flawed with self-doubts and lots of angst, which should be hard to read but never really is. I was completely caught up in the story here, wondering when Robin was finally going to accept his feelings for Anne and sort out his relationships with his family. The plot synopsis written above the editorials really does sum up the storyline, which is a little sparse for the 433 pages it takes to tell it, which seems to be a Kurland signature. Her books are incredibly character-driven and intricate, with the actual plot of the story coming in third, behind the characters and the historical details.

The tale is very engrossing and sweet, which you don't normally find in most of the historical romance books published these days. It wasn't until after I finished the book that I thought about what I didn't like. I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer that gave the romance a "G" rating - there literally is no sex in this book. It is alluded to, but the characters go from having one kiss and determining that they are going to consummate their relationship, to waking up the next morning and looking back fondly on the events of the night before. It's a little strange, and after finishing the book, I think Kurland did her readers a disservice by not giving us at least a small glimpse into Robin and Anne's bedroom. However beautifully written, this is a sanitized love story and leaving out that aspect of their relationship makes the characters seem a little untouchable. While other romance books are full of highs and lows between the characters, this story really is full of middles.

Overall, this was an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, and I don't regret buying the book. I probably won't read it again, simply because I never really made an attachment with the characters beyond what was written, but I definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for romance that is sweet, tender and not particularly involving.

Summary: Good Read!
Review: I liked this book, but one thing really got me was that we learned about the relationship of the main characters through memories. I think the characters would have developed much more smoothly if the author had allowed us to see their adolescent relationship. I really liked Robin's half-brother and am avidly awaiting his own story!

Summary: Top 10
Review: I rated this book in my all time top 10, it has been there for some time which is even though it is always up against fierce competition. This is a great story of two people who were brought up in a loving honest household and how that shaped who they turned out to be. Kurland has a gift to show the reader how loyalty, trust and love can trickle down through generations.
Annes father wants her to marry, so she seeks the solice of Artane, a keep she spent her childhood at, hoing her life long love would return for her. When Robin does return they do not immediately fall into each others arms, but when a murderer is threatening his true love, that is exactly how they end up. This opprotunity gave Robin the chance to have Anne all to himself, subsequently they are forced to marry and are then left alone. When his grandmother shows up and tries to teach Robin the ancient art of wooing, he realizes that Anne loves him just the way he is. Cute added character and witty dialogue.
I thought this story had alot of depth, especially how Robin overlooked her handicap and brought her to realize that she is all he would ever need. The degree of love that he held for her was easily shown through touching parts such as when Robin told Anne about her ring he had tailor made for her, hoping one day it would be a wedding ring, but how he kept it in a box along with other personnal items reminding him of Anne for five years.
Thier adventurous honeymoon expierence in his outdoor tent proved to be exactly how you would picture a knight in shining armour to be. He spends the next two chapters professing his love for her, he describes thier perfect wedding night and if he could he would of made it just so. The writing was so beautiful that it just made you sigh after reading it.
The ending also added a little twist when information regarding the DePique family heritage (which starts out in Another Chance To Dream) was revealed. Characters also appear in This Is All I Ask and The More I See You. A definate Re-Read.

Summary: Not Kurland's best...but entertaining enough for boring day!
Review: If you're familiar with Lynn Kurland's books and want to explore more about the second generation of de Piaget family, you should go ahead and buy this book..If not, I hope my review will help you to make your decision..somehow.. The story is about Robin de Piaget, a moody, arrogant but one of the finest warrior in England and Anne of Fenwyck, the only woman who left a print in his heart. A terrible accident in youth has left Anne a deep scar..mentally and physically... For Robin, after warring for 5 long years, he has returned home....wishes desperately to claim the only woman he loves. However, things did not turn out the way he planed... First half of the book is mainly about how Robin and Anne reacted when faith brought them back together after 5 long years...tell you the truth, a little tiny bit boring though...too much misunderstanding... However when a mysterious person threatened to kill Robin ..to take away every thing he holds dear, the story was spiced up and you will start thinking like..."well, this is not so bad"..The good point about this book is, as in other of Kurland's stories, two main characters are not flawless like other romance novels...and her style of writing is still enchanting... So in conclusion, if you ever read any of Lynn Kurland's books about de Piaget family before and want to know more about others in the family tree, buy this book. But if you don't even know Lynn Kurland and just look around for something sweet to read, I suggests you to start with other of Kurland's books..like "This is all I ask" or " The more I see you"..which I think are fun and very very good on their own...However,.. if you still don't really belive my suggestion and still want to buy this book, all I can say is..it's still good enough for the money you spend..

Summary: Pure Romance
Review: Lynn Kurland manages to erase time and create an atmophere so realistic, that you'll hate to put the book down and rejoin the 21st Century. The beauty of Kurland's writing is in her characters. As in "This is All I Ask," Kurland presents a hero and heroine whose flaws are what create their beauty. Anne's leg, considered a weakness by her father, inspires respect for Anne's courage from Robin. Robin's own demons, which are not as visible, prove to be the catalist for his tender love for Anne. Despite their own inhibitions, they learn that the past can only be the past, but the future still lies ahead. Throughout the book, you'll find yourself carried away on a flight of emotions ranging from frustration at the two for their own stubborness to communicate, to laughter at the witty dialogue and skilled descriptions of the lessons in wooing, to warmth from the unflawed glow of family love. It's a journey that, although mainly character driven, keeps you flipping pages until you find the story has ended. Or has it. Kurland is an expert at presenting secondary characters that could easily hold their own in another novel. Robin's brothers and sisters are so well defined, that the reader knows there's more to come. I would adore an entire novel about Nicholas and Amanda, as well as a novel that expands on Jason's declaration. You'll find yourself feeling as though you're part of the family. Whether it's the intrigue as to the murder attempts, the continuation of a family we've grown to love, or the awkward courtship and resulting blossoming of true love, Kurland has created yet another masterpiece. For that reason, I have to disagree with other reviewers. The closed door romance is ideal for these books. Consider the era to understand the true effect a kiss can have on a young woman. Sometimes love is a coming together that can't be shared with anyone by means of words. This is a romance novel in the truest and purest sense of the word. I can't wait to read more of Ms. Kurland's work!

Summary: Enjoyable Book
Review: Once again Lynn Kurland has managed to write a romance with an actual plot. Most romances are mindless and have terrible writing. I enjoyed the human struggles showed in this book. Two people in love can be very stupid at times and usually act that way especially if they think that the other doesn't notice them. I especailly laughed at Robins stubbornness and his initial blundering. But, like every romance novel--the hero gets the girl. Very fun, light, and easy reading. Bravo, Lynn.

Summary: If I had You -- True Love
Review: Thats what I see through the pages of If I had you, Two people who grew up together. Always destined to be together in love. Lynn Kurland has done it again. Bring three previous books together Another Chance to Dream, The More I See You, and Stardust of Yesterday. If you have read these you will enjoy this one. Anne and Robin were so enchanting.
