Summary: .....wasn't too happy...
Review: "Lord of Ice" and "Lord of Fire" are about two twin brothers, Lucien and Damien. After having read the first installment, "Fire", (and having LOVED it), I expected "Ice" to be.. well, pretty good. It wasn't. The characters bored me, the plot wasn't all that great.. maybe I'm biased after having read the first book.

Summary: The Best of Foley to Date
Review: After reading this book (the 3rd in the Knight Miscelleny) I have decided to collect all of Gaelen Foley's books. They are definite 'keepers' for me. I thought she had excelled herself in Lord of Fire, but Lord of Ice surpassed even this.

The characters of Damien and Miranda are so vibrant and true to life. He the aclaimed war hero plagued by the horrors of war, possessed of superhuman strength as well as abject weakness. Miranda - one of the best heroines I've ever come across and certainly the best in any of Ms Foley's work to date, is beautiful, bold, earthy, witty and brave yet sensitive. She has the power to heal his tortured soul.

Such true to life characters picked out and set in a richly descriptive historical setting with such depth of feeling and polish. This is a truely tender, poigant and facinating love story. I would recommend this book as a 'must read' to anyone.

Summary: Another fabulous read by Gaelen Foley
Review: Courtesy of The Best Reviews

Damien Knight, earl of Winterley, is an esteemed colonel in the British Cavalry. He had been fighting in wars for several years, until he became afflicted with horrible nightmares and memories of his days on the battlefield. He had been living in self-imposed exile until he heard of his good friend's murder. Damien must now return to society to take care of his friend's young niece, of whom Damien was named guardian.

Miranda FitzHubert has lived at Yardley School for girls ever since she was orphaned at a young age. She has never gotten over the horrific memory of watching her parents drown in a boating accident. She had been neglected by her family and deserted to remain at the school indefinitely but she handles it by becoming the protector of all of the younger children. In spite of the reluctance of her relatives to accept her, Miranda has dreams of breaking out someday and making a name for herself as an actress, like her mother was. So she is more than a little surprised when suddenly her new guardian arrives to claim her, putting a glorious society life in the ton, within her reach.

Damien arrives at Yardley School with his news for Miranda and is stunned to see she is not a small child, but a beautiful young woman. He is even more surprised to find himself attracted to her. Miranda is taken aback when she meets her new guardian and hears the news about her uncle. Damien takes her home to Hawkscliffe Hall to live within the protection of his family until he can find her a suitable husband. She has only one man on her mind however, and that is Damien himself.

Miranda is warmly accepted by the entire Knight family and finds herself adjusting to this new life quite readily. Unfortunately, all is not well as a string of suspicious accidents occurs, making it apparent someone is after her, quite possibly the same person who murdered her uncle. Now Damien must track down the villain, all the while trying to fight his personal demons...and his ever-growing attraction for Miranda, before he can truly be happy and at peace.

Ms. Foley once again has proven herself to be a shining star of the genre. Her characters are vivid and true to life, with strong emotions, one cannot help but feel with them. The attraction between Damien and Miranda is special; at the same time they believe it is forbidden, and very real. Damien's battle with his mind, caused by his time at war, is torturous and the reader is enveloped in his pain. When he finally lets himself be healed by Miranda's love, one will be drawn into their passions.

This book is not at all light though, as some very serious issues, including child molestation and posttraumatic stress disorder are represented. Ms. Foley handles these with skill and delicate ease, never seeming overdone or too graphic for the faint-hearted. There is also plenty of action, which keeps things moving quickly and smoothly, finally leading up to a fulfilling climax to the tale.

Each successive book is wonderfully written, better than the one before, truly a delight. This reviewer looks forward to the next exciting book in the Knight saga, which is expected to be forthcoming soon.

Summary: Wow - You just had to love Damien!!
Review: For some reason I just did not expect to love Damien as much as I did Lucein but boy was I wrong!! Leaving off with Damien in such a dismal state in Lord of Fire and picking up in somewhat the same way in Lord of Ice - Damien is just plagued with a war torn sole. He planned to shut himself off at his newly claimed estate and alone work out his battlescars. When he learns that he is now a ward of his war friends niece he goes to take care of his new charge - who of course he thinks will be some very young girl - not the beautiful Miranda!! Their meeting is powerful - not knowing that the girl he propositioned the night before was actually Miranda - then he fought for her honor in a rage of vengence when she is attacked on her way back home. Damien and Miranda have formed very strong impressions of each other when they are thrown together as protector and ward the next day at the school. Slowly but surely after the shock wears off of who they are to one another - and after Damien truly proves himself as a good and gentle man by saving the girls at the school from the cruelty of the head master - Miranda realizes that Damien needs this man and he needs her! Of course Damien thinks he will be taking her to his family in London and finding her a husband. He thinks he needs no one and is such a miserable sole that he does not deserve anyone as lovely as Miranda. Lucein encourages Miranda to fight for Damien and save him because he says only love can save Damien. The scene when she goes to him during the New Years Eve fireworks which are torturing him like cannons in a battle is absolutely beautiful. . . truly a romantic beautifully written scene. Another very special part of this book - was the linking of all the characters of the other two books -- Robert and Bel and Lucein and Alice - plus Jacinda and Alec. I really love when authors bring you up to date in the lives of family as this series continues. And I disagree with the people that say you do not need to read Lord of Fire or the Duke before. One may not need to by why would you not want to treat yourselves to the complete Knight family. The ending of this story was absolutely special - this was one fine book by Ms. Foley!!

Summary: Is it even possible for Gaelen Foley to write a bad book?
Review: I adore Ms. Foley!!!!! What a talent!!! I loved this story!!! I absolutely cannot wait to read her next books!! I'm dying for Alec's story...and I have a feeling that Jacinda is going to get involved with "Billy Blade"....this should prove to be very interesting indeed. I had 1 reason for not giving this story 5 stars...I didnt like the whole Napoleon conflict towards the end....but hey..who am I to complain? Gaelen Foley has undeniably reached the top of my favorite authors list!!!!!

Summary: Not at her best
Review: I bought this book because I loved Lord of Fire, and while it is still superior to many other novels I have read this year, it lacked the same suspense and drama that was in the previous novel. I wanted to like Damien, but his twin was so far more .... I had a harder time liking the book because I kept comparing the brothers. My suggestion to not feel somewhat disappointed is to read this first and then read Lord of Fire.

Summary: Another Wonderful Knight!!!
Review: I can't say enough about this series! This is the story of Damien the other Knight twin. Damien is a troubled soul and feels that he is going slowly insane as a result of his military career. He finds out that a fellow officer and friend has been killed and has "willed" his niece to Damian. Damien does not have any idea what to do with a ward. What does he know about children? What he does not know is that Miranda is far from being a child she is a young woman of 19.

Miranda feels that she has been forgotten and no one wants her. She has been left and forgotten in a horrid boarding school where she has experienced unspeakable things. She escapes to the stage but still has to return to her miserable existance at the school. Then a dark and handsome stranger comes and takes her away from all of her troubles. What follows next is a story of the heart.

This was a wonderful, emotional read and I feel that is so far the best of the three stories that have been written about the Knight Brothers. Damien is a true Knight is every way possible and you can't help but fall in love with this tortured soul.

Summary: Great Story!
Review: I have always been a fan of Gaelen Foley and have read all her books. I eagerly waited for two stories in one year and was not disappointed.

Personally, I liked this story better than, "Lord of Fire", and stayed up all night reading it. The hero and heroine are great together! Both parties were upfront with their feelings for each other, rather than pretending to be indifferent.

Damien is the tortured war hero who is named the ward of Miranda, his friend's niece. Even though he is attracted to her, he feels unowrthy of caring for someone while he is battling his own flashbacks and horrors of war. Miranda sees a person worth fighting for and helps Damien overcome his demons.

In addition to the interaction between the main characters, is a plot to kill the heroine. You also get introduced to a possible love interest for Jacinda (maybe??) as well as references to Lord Jack, the "black sheep," so to speak.

In addition, Foley's previous characters from, "The Duke," and "Lord of Fire" are included. Most of all, I loved the conclusion of the book, which wrapped the story up quite nicely! I certainly hope the future stories of the other Knight Brothers, Jacinda, and friend Lizzie are as satisfying as this one! Can't wait till next year!

Summary: Foley does it again!!!
Review: I have been a fan of Gaelen Foley's for a while now, but her last two books, Lord of Fire (Lucien) and Lord of Ice (Damien) were just about the best I have ever read. The strength of the heroine and her devotion to the hero is inspiring. The hero is a very strong and honorable man with a darker side that is vanquished with the love and understanding of a good woman........and the love scenes ain't bad either. These were two books I thoroughly enjoyed.
