Rating: Summary: Read it for the characters... Review: Kathleen Woodiwiss does it again -- creating an unforgettable romantic duo. This book is LONG, however, and should be read at one's leisure (and you will need lots of it). But, that in itself creates a dreaminess about this book which I think KEW intended. The island setting -- the clouds wistifully floating by --- it's all here for you to seep in. I will never forget Shanna and Ruark, I cried when the book was over. A romance masterpiece!
Rating: Summary: Great from page 1!!!! Review: I have become a huge fan of Kathleen Woodiwiss after a friend gave me one of her books. Since then, I have snatched up as many others as I can find, and am thoroughly enjoying each one. This book, however, is my favorite so far. I was captivated and wrapped up in the story from the very first page. A great book to curl up with and become lost in.
Rating: Summary: Definitely Kathleen's best novel Review: I find that most Kathleen Woodiwiss novels are extremely over-written, with way too much detail & plots that move along slooooowly...(and don't have enough romance!)...but "Shanna", I am happy to say, while full of detail, does NOT bog down & is really her best novel. I read it about 10 years ago and re-read it recently, and it still holds up, which is more than you can say for many older romance novels. The characters of Ruark & Shanna & all the supporting cast are well-rounded & the plot is pretty simple, which helps. I thought that Shanna, while "bratty" to begin with, and somewhat annoying due to her hard-heartedness toward Ruark initially, really matured and grew on me. You could put all that down to the fact that she was motherless, and that her father spoiled her. I recommend "Shanna" above all other Kathleen Woodiwiss novels.
Rating: Summary: Patience please Review: I am dumbfounded at the poor reviews of this book. For a few moments I also hesitated to read it because it seemed "so long", but once I threw myself into it, I couldn't put it down. It's not so much the romance portion that drew me back to it, but the never-ending patience of the hero with the heroine. How many men do any of us know that would stick around more than a week if we acted like Shanna? If you want a story where the hero and heroine act the way YOU want them to, then don't read this book. This book is for the hopeless romantic that believes love is forgiving and endures all, which I can personally attest really exists.
Rating: Summary: wow! Review: I had bought the book at a garage sale along with other romance novels. It had sat on my shelf for a few years because for a romance its lenghth was a bit intimidating. But, I picked it up one summer evening and I fell in love. I have read other novelists' romances, but Shanna (being the first romance novel I have read) has set the standards for my expectations of other romance novels. None of Woodiwiss' other novels can compare to Shanna; it is definitely her best work. I passed Shanna on to all my friends and I truly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Trashed this one, Review: I hated this book! I thought it was stupid, boring, and quite frankly, I trashed it halfway through reading it. I could not and did not even want to finish the damn thing! I will not be wasting anymore of my time or money on books by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss!
Rating: Summary: a reader from holland europe Review: Shanna was the first romance novel i read, it took me 24 hours to read it, i just couldn't stop. That was the Dutch translation i had, now i can't wait to read the english book. I loved it. This book made a reader out of me
Rating: Summary: Shanna is annoying. Review: I found the heroine annoying, and unreasonable. Would not purchase another Woodiwess (other books contribute to this decision).
Rating: Summary: Shanna is perfection Review: well, over 100 reviews and almost all of them 5 stars. That says it all! This is the number one best romance novel of all time. Even Woodiwiss can't top it. This is the first romance novel I ever read and none have ever equaled it. This one has it all--twists and turns, exotic locals, main charatcters that capture your interest and heart. This is one novel you won't be sorry you purchased and read. Its a real winner and keeper.
Rating: Summary: Talk about adventure and love! Review: I had to go back and read this one after reading many reviewers that mentioned this being their all time favorite. I can see why. It leaves nothing out. The love scenes are steamy, there is all sorts of adventure (prison in London, plantation home of the baron, pirates in the open sea and island, the colonies of the new world), murders, deception, and LOVE. It has it all- along with a breath-taking main characters in Shanna and Ruark. It has it all! Now this is a TRUE Kathleen Woodiwiss book! You definately won't be disappointed! And the Epiloge is great, too!!!
